what i got
since my wedding is less than 4 months away, i'm not really at the stage where i'm still trying to make decisions on what type of decor i want...what bridesmaids dress i want, etc...so i wanted to have a place where i can post pics and share how it all came to be.
my fiance and i live in ottawa but both of our families live in north bay. we also both grew up there and met there, so we thought it would be fitting to have our wedding there. knowing we wanted a smallish wedding of close family and friends only, we researched a few places in north bay that we thought were in our budget but nothing really jumped out at us. after nearly giving up, my best friend (who also happens to be my fiance's sister!) suggested we check out churchill's - north bay's finest dining establishment. we thought it would be out our price range, but after my mom and i went to see it, we discovered it was actually quite affordable, so we booked it then and there! the place has amazing food, the room (the loft) has big windows, lots of dark wood and loads of character :) after choosing the venue, the rest fell into place. we decided that light blue and white would be our colour theme: light and summery, so perfect for our july wedding. after our colours were picked flowers were the next natural thing to choose. we chose simple hydrangeas...blue and white. my bouquet is all light blue hydrangeas. my bridesmaids are wearing light blue dresses and will have white hydrangeas. the guys' bouts will be just one white rose with a bit of greenery. the centerpeices are short square vases with white hydrangeas (they will stand out against the white table clothes with light blue organza overlays), the head table has a long center arrangement then the square glass vases of hydrangeas on either side. for the cake, we decided to opt for brownie cupcakes since the groom LOVES chocolate brownies. i have the meeting with the cake maker this coming weekend, so i'll post again about how that went. we want the icing to be light blue and white. to display the cupakes, we got antique glass dessert trays! for my dress, i wanted something different than the traditional gown. i've never been one to want the princess wedding with the floor length gown and all of that, so i research tea-length wedding dresses and fell in love with many that i saw. after pricing these gowns, tehy were WAYYYY out of my league so i found a vintage vogue dress pattern and am getting my dress made!! it's made from a BEAUTIFUL ivory silk. i love the 50's silhouette. i think it will look sweet. my mom will be making me a birdcage veil to go with it. i can't wait. if it looks too 'costumey', though i will opt for a short, vintage looking veil instead :) for the grooms' suit, i intially wanted him to wear ivory. i saw mannyyyy designer suits that i LOVED but again...my expensive taste has no place in our modest budget SO we had to can that idea. We went with renting Calvin Klein tuxes from Moore's. They are a simple sort of tux so they look like suites. Black in colour with light blue vest and tie. The groomsmen are wearing the same. What will differentiate the groom from his groomsmen is that the groom will wear a white pocket square and the others will not. The good thing is the colour of their vest/tie matchces the bridesmaids dresses perfectly! For the bridesmaids dresses I had a tough time deciding what I wanted until my mom and sister saw a dress that they both loved and thought would go along with my theme. When I saw it, I thought it was so sweet so just decided to go with that one. :) Our party is going to be an oldies rock n' roll dance party (no Macarena at this wedding!!!) and we're just going to upload all the songs onto our laptop and play through randomly. Invitations I am making by hand and will look silmiar to our save the date (picture provided) ANNNND I found the CUTEST love bird salt and pepper shakers to giveaway as favours!!! Everything is really tied together! Things we still need to decide on: My Shoes My Lingerie Bridal Party Gifts Grooms Ring I'm sure there's more...but this is it for now! |
