A Blog Award For You
I thought that it was a fabulous idea that Gratefulbride gave blog awards to some awesome bloggers. I just wanted to give all the WBC brides an award for just being truly amazing. I don't have any favourite brides in my blog because, truly, you are all my favourite. I love reading your posts from the lovely DIY projects to the craziness that happens in the planning process to all of the wonderful things that happen in our lives outside of weddings such as having kids and getting a job.

So thank you for enriching my life by sharing your experience.

Seeing Sex and the City 2?
I'm so excited to see this movie but can't this weekend because we're having our Stag and Doe. Is anyone else seeing it? Have you seen it already? Is it good?

Macbride's Stag and Doe on the horizon
I'm super excited for our Stag and Doe this weekend. If you haven't heard of a stag and doe (or buck and doe, or jack and jill) before it's different than a bachelor/ette party. Really it's a night to raise some funds for the bride and groom. Tickets are sold to the event and drinks/games are to be had throughout the night.

Tomorrow I get to make about 200 jello shooters but I want to test a small batch to make sure that it works out. Ahh drinking in the am. I haven't done THAT since my early 20's :).

We got matching orange shirts for $3 and I ironed on a butterfly decal that I found at the dollar store (see attached pic). I think I'm DIY obsessed. Also, I will NOT be wearing the scooby doo shorts as seen in the picture.

NWR Update: Didn't cry during Ethics Meeting
So the good thing is that I didn't ball my eyes out during the meeting (please see my previous post that explains all about my meeting). When I experience intense emotions, especially anger, I have the tendency to just start crying.

So when halfway through the hour long grueling meeting with the 23 member Ethics Committee, the Chair of the committee said, "Ya there's no way we can approve this research. It infringes on the rights of the participants." I calmly replied that I respectfully disagreed and outlined the many reasons why I should pursue this research.

When really I just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry.

My supervisor had lots to say during the meeting because of some of the absurd things that were said and I"m so glad I had her on my side. We talked about the meeting after and she said that I did a great job and made some really excellent points.

What happened in the end? All I have to do is change the letter that I give participants at the end of the study. After all of that, I just have to revise the letter. Sure I can say this has been a good learning experience and chalk it up to a life lesson, but I just can't believe how ridiculous this whole thing has been.

NWR: Big day tomorrow
Tomorrow I meet with the Ethics Committee at my school. I haven't blogged about it but I've been having a hard time getting ethics approval for my research. To take things back a second, I am a grad student and I'm trying to get approval for my thesis research. My research involves deception but this type of research has been done many times before. My study's design has been done before too and it's been published in excellent journals.

Basically, one reviewer freaked out about my research and long story short, I think I know who it is by what was written and she has a reason (not a very good one) to give me a hard time.

Some of the claims are really absurd such as my research could ruin the reputation of my school. It's been a very hard process for me, with many tears shed, and even the consideration of quitting grad school, but I've pulled up my socks and moved on. Teaching has been going so well so really it was the only thing keeping me going.

Tomorrow I meet with the 23 person--yes that's right--23 person committee for an hour. My supervisor will be there to support me but I'm still pretty nervous about it.

NOW HERE IS THE KICKER: Our meeting is at the same place that my FH and I are getting married. Talk about irony at it's greatest.

Ask a Question
Have you ordered from StarGlory off Ebay?
So I posted a while ago about a beautiful purse that I ordered from StarGlory Fashions off Ebay. I contacted the seller because it's been 29 days since I ordered it and it still hasn't arrived. I looked up the tracking number and it shows that the purse is still at Bejing Airport, but when I contacted the seller they said that the website is behind.

I'm a bit concerned because I think there's a time limit on Ebay to dispute this if I don't receive the purse and I'm a bit unfamiliar with the process because I've only bought one thing off Ebay before.

Have you ordered from this seller? Did you get your purse in the usual "14 working days" that they promise?

Ask a Question
Too much to pay for candles?
I've been contemplating different ideas for our altar and came across these beautiful candle lantern stands at Homesense. I didn't buy them because I thought they were too expensive, but I couldn't stop thinking about them.

So I went back to Homesense and bought them. All in all including the candles that I bought from the Dollar Store, they were almost $140. The nice thing is that I can use them again after the wedding as decorations.

Plus they match my centerpieces which are candle lanterns with wreathes from Ikea. They just go soooo well and I love them, but I'm having trouble swallowing the price.

Stag & Doe: Ridiculous Liquor Prices!
We're planning a Stag and Doe (it's a party where you serve alcohol and have games to raise funds for the wedding) and we just picked up our liquor license. We didn't realize this before but the government charges a 17% levy on alcohol that you buy for a special event like a Stag and Doe. 17%!!!!! That's ridiculous. That's on top of all of the taxes already. This is highway robbery.

Groom's Attire: Looking Pretty Hot
Ahh I finally having something wedding-related to post about! Chris and I went to look at tuxedos last night and he finally (yes finally) picked out tuxedos for him and the boys. It's been a long drawn out process because Chris was indecisive, and it was pretty funny afterward because he says, "Boy am I sure glad that's over. This wedding stuff is stressful." I looked at him and said, "Take what you feel right now and multiply that by a 100." He looks at me and says, "What do you mean?" So I reminded him that he is in charge of the tuxedos and honeymoon, but I'm planning and thinking about all of the other things. Sure, I ask for his opinion, but that's usually after I have spent a lot of time thinking about something, or it's a decision between two things.

Men, they are so funny sometimes.

NWR: How she survived 40 lashes
I just thought this story was so interesting, yet so sad and completely avoidable that I wanted to share this with you. It's just plain nuts that some places can be so oppressive.

Orange
Because we love the cottage so much and that's where Chris proposed, we're going to have a romantic cottage themed wedding. Something a bit rustic but with a touch of elegance. Think butterflies, ivy, candle lanterns, and so forth. The wedding will be sage green and burnt orange to capture some fall colours.
