tattoo before wedding?
my last hurrah

I have always always always wanted swallows on the tops of my feet. Old school, WWII style. I got a heart with an arrow through it, with some flames coming out of the top... its on my left butt cheek. But I feel like I should do one more thing for myself before I get married. Just a way to mark the end of an era. Soon it will be me, husband, then kids, which means no more single girl free time fun stuff. So maybe I will go for it and get these tattoos before the wedding. I'm not really into the whole tattoo thing... if that makes sense. I like THIS tattoo idea, but I don't just like the idea of having tattoos for the sake of having tattoos. So it will be odd for most people to see me with these on my feet... especially in my very traditional wedding dress at my very traditional wedding ceremony and reception. It would be like Annie from Father of the Bride having big bright swallows tattood to her feet. It just would be hard for people to wrap their heads around. So maybe I should wait until after the wedding. Part of me thinks though, I should do it now.

thoughts?? any of you with tattoos?

I've got a bass clef on my back.  It's something that means A LOT to me (being a trombonist!), and I thought about it for years before I did it.  I'm not into tattoos for the sake of having them either, but I'm really glad I got mine.  It's in a very private place, so no one but me and my hubby ever see it (he's a trombonist too, so he appreciates it - LOL!).  I say if you feel really strongly about it, you should do it.  My only concern, for me personally,  was it not being in such a publically visible place, but that's a personal decision.

I have calla lillies on my right foot, it hurt so much, but looks so pretty, my FH loves it... I also have Foxy (the "y" being a fox tail) on my lower back... It is up to you, sweetie... I say go for it, but leave about a month healing time for it...

I think that if it's something you want to do for yourself, then do it. Don't worry about other people's judgments on the day of the wedding. Besides, few people will really be focusing on your feet. Gorgeous made a good point, though. Make sure you give it enough time to heal.

I don't have any tattoos so maybe i'm not the best one to be commenting. That is really cute that you compared yourself to Annie from Father of the Bride...I LOVE that movie :) My concern would be that the sparrows would be in a place that would be so visible, but that would totally be your personal preference.

As far as your wedding is concerned, your dress will be covering your feet for the most part so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

Well my dear..it is important to YOU. I just saw how much time till your wedding..this gives plenty of time to get it done, let it heal and use tat cover up on your wedding day (if you like)
Thats what I would do..it seems to me theres more meaning to you to do this BEFORE your big day..so do it! You can always hide it. Kat Von D have tat cover up located at Sephora

GO FOR IT!!
Nothing a little makeup cant fix on your feet :)

If you read back in my blog you will see we lost one of our best friends in a really bad car accident, Zack. He was big into tattoos. He actually got a HUGE monster (the energy drink) M tattooed on his right calf. Long story about why...basically he got a lot of free drinks at different events when people saw it. LOL

So after he passed away we started the Monster's for Z club! His mom, his gf, and a bunch of his friends all went to the same tattoo shop and got the M's.

Mine is on my right foot. It says RIP then the M and Zack under the M. It hurt...not as much as I thought. But the healing process was pure hell. I couldn't stand to wear a shoe...not even flip flops. So make sure you do it with enough time for it to heal.

I am making sure to wear my garter on my right leg so my tattoo will show. I am sooooo proud of it I want it to be visable.

i have 3 tattoos (1 on each hip & 1 by my left heel on the outside).  if it's something you really want to do, do it.  but don't do it for other people, you need to consider if it's something YOU want. is it something you want to have on your wedding day? how important is it to you?? i think it's a beautiful idea. my friend has a sparrow on her shoulder blade & it's gorgeous.  i plan to get a tattoo of my maiden name on the bottom of my back before i get married because it's unique & i love it.  but all of my tattoos i thought about for at least a year before i got them done, which is important to do.  all of my tattoos i do for me & have meaning, so i do not regret them at all.  so thats important to remember - it needs to be something you want, that means something to do, & make sure you definitely want it.  like trombonechick said, if you feel really strongly about it, do it!! & post pics :)

I'm with everyone else.

It seems like it's important to you that it be before the wedding. If this is the case, then by all means, do it before the wedding. I also agree with others that say you should get it in plenty of time for it to heal, so that it isn't red and scabbed on your wedding day.

And if you don't like the way it shows, you can always cover it with makeup. But maybe it's just me... I think tattooed tootsies make for totally cute wedding pictures. c;

I think you should do it! As long as you are sure this is what you want - read: you won't regret it.

I love the idea of a sparrow on the foot. I have two sparrows (one on either side of my back) old-school style and I just love everything about it.

I have heard that the foot is a painful place to get a tattoo... lack of fatty tissue for cushion, but I've seen it done before and the pictures you have posted are really neat looking. :) Good luck with the decision!
