Ask a Question
Does the stamp on your invitation really matter??

I went to the post office yesterday to get stamps for the wedding invitations.. I really didnt want to use the plain old liberty bell for the wedding invites and I know they had a few different heart options when I sent out the STDs... Well yesterday, they had nothing. Not even cute ones with flowers on them! What the hell?!?! No wedding stamps, no heart stamps, not even flower stamps. And he said they wont be getting any till June! Well.. My wedding is in May =/

So I was just wondering.. Does it even matter?? I know we all try so hard to make our invitations look amazing, and spend a good amount of time and money on them. It bums me out that I have to ugly it up with a stupid stamp.. I was even thinking about those picture stamps, that you can put your picture on. But would that be tacky?? I think the program is like $25 so I dont even know if its worth it.. Or is there anywhere else that you can buy stamps? Online somewhere?? Or should I just say screw it and get plain stamps? LOL.. I think farr to into things sometimes..

What is really neat about the photo stamps is they dont stamp that ugly black stamp over the stamp.. So it still looks really nice when you get it in the mail... Idk tho.. I couldnt imagine getting a wedding invite with the bride and groom's pic on the stamp! haha

Honestly I don't think that the stamp is that important.  I know I never notice the stamps on letters or invitations that I get, it's all about what's inside that the people are going to pay attention to:)

I agree with sabranav.   Some people don't even notice the thick expensive paper, and the gorgeous prints, the colours and all the details we've agonized over for months, and just look at the info.  Most will look at the invitation and think, "how pretty!" and leave it at that.  Few will say "gee, they used normal stamps."

That being said, you could use your monogram image, or some other pic that you think would be nice - a calla lilly or a rose or something - and make your own stamps if you wish.  It doesn't have to be a picture of a bride and groom.

LOL- I hope that stamps don't matter!  I originally picked a fairly nice stamp representing the Year of the Ox for 2009.  It was red and gold, and my wedding is green, but it still looked ok on the black envelope.  Then I went to mail my invites and found out that because we had used a wax stamp and had thick blobs of wax, we had to more than double to postage.  I ended up needing two ox stamps, a lady bug, a honey bee and two pink and purple flower stamps.  I had fun artistically arranging the stamps at least :-)

well...i definitely don't think personalized stamps are tacky.  i think they are fun.  i do not think if someone is on a tight budget that the extra money is worth it.  oh but then...i don't know....i can't imagine using an ugly stamp!!  i guess i'm in the same boat as you!

We did personalized stamps for our wedding invitations through Canada Post.  You would not believe the number of people who commented and the number of invitations people have shown me that they kept.

Check ou blog for the post Invitation Stamps or Personalized Stamps

LOL!  My FH and I had a disagreement about stamps.  I said they have to be pretty stamps and he said any old stamp will do.  So we solved the problem the way we do most.  We took a poll and 75% of those asked said pretty stamps.  Of course 68% of all statistics are made up on the spot.  But majority said pretty stamps and that was asking both girls and guys.  It really doesn't matter, but I wanted pretty ones.  I ended up buying mine online from the post office, and spent a dollar on the shipping.  But you have a bunch more options online than you do at the actual post office.  And my stamps came in and I loved them.  They even matched my invitations!

if I counlt get the wedding stamps then I would order the photo stamps, people do notice.    I did use wedding stamps on my invitations abd I used personlaized return address labels wiht our picture on it form vista print.

Some of the guest loved it.  They had never seen anything like that before.  They wanted to know where I got them from.

I personally think that you should get heart, flower or love stamps.

Maybe you should check out another post office. That's strange that they don't have any.
