Ask a Question
To diet or not to diet...

Ok so my FH came home today and told me about people he knows at work who are on the master cleanse diet. He knows that I desperately want to lose weight for the wedding/honeymoon and that I have issues sticking to a work out routine. I read up on it and it sounds like a real pain in the ass but manageable. It sounds like people are seeing results from it with just a short time of commitment. But the key thing is that after the "diet" you need to start eating healthy again or you will gain back the weight. I am not sure if I could do that. I have tried to eat healthy but it is difficult because I love food too much!!! Especially fast food and pasta!

Has anyone heard of this master cleanse diet before? Know anyone who has gone on it? If not, would you consider a diet like this to look the way you want to on your wedding day?

i have done this one before.  Its actually a neat diet.  the stuff is a pain in the ass and you have to threaten the people around you not to entice you with food aka fh eating a giant bowl of delicious creamy alfredo ugggghhhh i wanted to kill but yes you feel tons better afterwards and have lots of energy.  As with any diet you do gain it back but it seems to be at a slower rate i gained back but i know it was my eating habits i ate fast food for four months and gained 10 which is pretty slow.

i really don't trust anything that promises fast weight loss, it just cannot be effective or healthy. we are in the prime of the information age and are so intelligent yet believe that cleanses like this can actually work. think of all the effort you would put into this "pain in the ass" as you called it and instead take that effort and put it into making a healthy lunch everyday with a sandwich, salad, carrots, celery an apple and an orange! you'll be full and less tempted to eat fast food. i know we've all heard it before that all you need to do is eat right and get active 3 times a week and you will get in shape and its true! i'm not a health freak, just an average girl who recently lost 20 lbs in 5 months by eating right and hitting the gym. please don't do these short term diets, they aren't healthy for you in the long run.

I'm really against these "cleanse" diets, as here's why - you don't change your lifestyle and eating habits when you do them, so gaining the weight back is REALLY easy.  On top of that, you're stressing your body out by starving it of essential vitamins and minerals that it needs to function properly - ask anyone and they'll tell you that water, lemons, grade b maple syrup, and cayenne pepper aren't enough to maintain a healthy body.

My advice to you is, if you want permanent weight loss, change your life style to include healthy foods, daily exercise, and mental wellness.  That's the only way you'll loose weight and maintain it.  These "cleanses" are only quick "fixes" and not a way to get healthy.

But that's just my advice and I don't want to down anyone that's actually done this cleanse - if its what you feel comfortable with, give it a try.  But I really recommend following it with a very healthy diet in order to not gain the weight back.  After 10 days without enough essential vitamins and minerals, your body will process anything you eat and store it as fat because it will be in "starvation mode."

what's the point of going on a "cleanse" diet that obviously isn't something you would stick with when you have finished it you would still gain the weight back?  i think that it would be pointless if I knew I wouldn't stick to it.  Just a waste of time.

In order for you to want to lose weight you have to be willing to realize you can't eat McDonald's and pastas like you normally do---doesn't mean you have to cut it out, you just need to reduce the amount you eat.  Also start an exercise regime---doens't have to be an hour work out, just start out going for a 30 min walk and then gradually increase up your exercise times.

I highly reccommend the South Beach Diet----it's not really a diet, it's a lifestyle change.  It teaches you to make healthy decisions and tells what you can and cannot have for each Phase (there are 3).  I lost 20 pounds in less than 2 months and was never hungry.  You just have to be willing to change your eating habits and your way of thinking, otherwise you will never successfully lose weight.

Good luck in whatever you choose!

This one was huge in our area last year, I knew about 15 girls who did it. All the girls who stuck to it lost weight, felt good, tons of energy etc. and 2 weeks later had gained it all back plus some!
Except for one of the girls, who has been battling obeseity for years, this really gave her the motivation she needed to change her lifestyle.
I asked my doctor about it and he suggested http://www.allnaturalinfo.com/liver_cleanse.htm, it is brutal, but works!
Not so much for weight loss, but he said it's a great start and won't starve you or deprive you of anything your body needs.

Hey,

One of my bridesmaids gave me a book for my bday back in Feb and I am grateful for her because it has changed my life. It is called the Eat Clean Diet. Like Tiggre99 stated it is not really a diet, but a life style change. The book is really cheap to I believe 30.00 at Chapters and even Walmart carries it. The premise of the "diet" is to eat 6 small meals every 2-3 hours. At each small meal you are eating a portion of lean protein and complex carb. It is also about eating natural foods like no pre-packaged foods. Tosca, the author, explains you through it in the book. I started this Feb and have lost 40 lbs. I have been going to the gym as well. But the last month I have been so buys i have been busy with wedding planning I have not been able to get to the gym and I have still been losing weight! If you follow her meal plans (very easy to follow) she says you are able to lose 2-3 lbs per week. Visit http://www.eatcleandiet.com/ for more information. Tosca Reno is my inspiration. I thought I would share my life changing "diet" or life style change I like to call it with you. Check it out and see if it fits with you. She also has recipes for desserts and treats that are tasty, but not filled with garbage and sugar. She even has recipes for pasta!! I have her cook-book as well and it is my bible I swear!! Ok I will stop raving now and I hoped thin information has helped you some what. Feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks everyone who posted their comments. I really appreciated everyone's opinion and advice. I will definitely be looking into some of the alternatives suggested. As for whether I will try this fad diet I am not sure yet but I am sure I will keep everyone updated to what I decide and how it all works out!

K. soo yeah I went on a cleansing diet like 4 months ago and I lost 11lbs in 1.5 week which was AMAZING...not sure if it's the same as you're talking about but it does work wonders unfortunately as soon as I stopped I gained it back 3 times faster then I lost. Fad diets and cleansing will certainly make you lose weight fast but once you stop and start eating food no matter if it's healthy or not you will gain it back.

Best way and fastest way to lose weight is jogging..I hate jogging to be honest but I started the gym approx a month ago and I've lost ALOT just by jogging and it is now my favorite cardio.
