So in my original posts I have discussed my venue for my ceremony and reception. Well after making my budget estimate a few weeks ago it finally hit me just how much we were talking about spending on a wedding. Ever since all I can think about it is what other uses that money could go to rather than a 100 guest wedding. One evening when I was talking to my fiance became clear to me that he would really like a destination wedding however my mom is too afraid to fly. So instead we started to look into a cruise wedding. Originally we were talking about marrying on the boat but on further investigation we are leaning towards getting married on one of the ports. As of right now we are thinking about moving our wedding from October to June/July. The cruise liner that we have been really interested in is Carnival and we really liked the 5 day cruise from Tampa, FL to Cozumel Mexico to Grand Cayman Islands. We have cruised with Carnival in the past and we went to Cozumel and Grand Cayman along with Ocho Rios Jamaica. Well on our trip we absolutely loved Grand Cayman so we thought it would be the perfect location for our ceremony. After the ceremony we have discussed going back to the ship to have a small reception type gathering with our friends and family. Right now we have a guest list around 25-30 people and we were thinking about paying for air fare for our guests to make it more cost friendly and tempting for our guests. After our cruise, my FH and I would go on our honeymoon. We are also thinking of having a more casual reception when we get home for all of our family and friends that couldn't be at the actual wedding. We thought it would be a great idea to have a meet the Mr. & Mrs.
It is not definite that this is what we will choose to do but it seems like a great alternative to what we have already planned. Everything will be much more affordable and I think it would be so much fun to have a small vacation with our family and friends. Also we have been thinking about taking our photographer on the trip with us so that we could have amazing professional pictures of the vacation. He has gone on vacation with clients in the past and all they had to pay for was his expenses and he would provide his service at no cost!!!
All in all I must say that this new wedding idea is a great one! I am still barely hanging on to our original plan so right now we are in limbo. But I must know what does the WBC brides think of our new idea for our wedding?
Has any of the WBC brides had a cruise wedding before? If not has anyone ever been to a cruise wedding? I am curious to what experiences others have had with this type of a wedding so that I can get a feel for what we are getting into.
Also if you were invited to a cruise wedding and you were only responsible for your room/food costs, would you be interested in going? (Right now the starting rate per person is around $430 for a standard room which includes all of your meals on the boat. However, it could be more depending on the type of room chosen)
