To have and to spend
To have and to spend
Ask a Question
Have you been spending your budget from the time you got engaged?
I just dropped off my deposit for the ceremony, Sunday I gave the photographer a deposit, wednesday before that a deposit for the makeup artist. In December we gave a deposit for the reception which will include all of our alcohol, food, cake and other sweets.

I had time to sit down right now and tally ALL of my wedding expenses to date. I calculate everything since I want to see how much EVERYTHING will cost us when the day is over. So anything I already bought like cardstock, stamps, glue gun, samples of favors etc. are calculated as well.

I bought quite a bit of stuff the first two months when I got engaged. I got a sample of 12 Something Blue Candles, Crystals for the tables, Thank you cards for the shower (lol I know!) etc.

When I see stuff on sale I can't help but get it. I only have 2 things that I bought thus far that I still don't know if I will use but they fit my theme and were on sale so I got them. I'm curious to know is everyone spending happy or are you waiting for your purchases closer to the wedding.

If you did do some shopping, what are the things you got?

We didn't set an ACTUAL budget, but we made sure to cut costs where we could. I didn't go too buy crazy. But I DIYed the invites, programs, aisle pomeanders, centerpieces, other table decorations, cake table decorations, and bought almost EVERYTHING online or at Michael's. All in all our ENTIRE wedding (atire, hair, ect) was around $16,500.00. I still don't know?

We have an 6 or 7,000 dollar budget. Luckily we have alot of help and a lot of discounts from people we know. So far i have put money on my dress, my fiance' has put money on the reception place, we booked the d.j. placed an order for the cake, hired a caterer, found an officiant, bought and paid for our wedding bands, bought some decorations, bridal stuff.. etc
All in all we have stayed in our budget for now lol

the only thing i did right away (or my parents did) was put a deposit on the reception and the ceremony.  I didn't start actually buying things for the wedding decor until March. The things i got were stuff that i found onsale that i wanted in wedding, like floating candles, and vases. i don't know if i am going to use all of it or not.

We set how much we wanted to spend in total and every time we purchase/place a deposit we add it to our excel file. I know kinda nerdy, but we have an exact total of what we have spent so far and what we plan on spending via our excel file.

The only thing I have had a hard time with so far is estimating how much things will cost as we live in a small community in the SE corner of British Columbia. What costs very little in a big city, sometimes is more here.

We still have a year and a half until the wedding, and we have already been engaged for a year.  We are saving up as much as we can, but have made purchases for the wedding such as our wedding bands, the deposit for the dj and videographer, and we are DIY-ing our Save the Dates!  So I guess as of now, not too much money has gone out, but I'm sure that in the next year it will fly right out of my bank account!

we've technically spent only what we've been able to save but we have a fairly long engagement (2+ years) to be able to afford everything... the two things we have put a deposit on is the venue and photographer. I'm wanting to get the rings this year so it's another expense we don't have to have next year.

Being only 2 months away from the big day, we have purchased/paid for:
Everybody's outfits
All the decoration
Favours
Make up artist
Alcohol
Cake
Invitations
In Hungary things are done a bit differently, so we can pay several people only on the day or after. I am going to pay for our wedding rings this week, and the rest will be done next month.
We started off with a very neat spreadsheet for all our spending and we try not to fall off the wagon. I think it really helped that we knew all along what we wanted and didn't end up buying unnecessary things. And as we are paying for all of this out of our salaries we really have to be strict. One thing I didn't want is starting married life with debt.

I've been spending happy. We have a $10,000 budget, so I have been doing the same....buying things here and there. I've bought candles because they were on sale for 75cents each, vases because I LOVED them, river stones for the centerpieces, and other little things like that. I'm a DIY person too, so I shop ebay a lot, and Michaels too.
