Ask a Question
Chocolate fountain..YES or NO

I was going to buy 2 chocolate fountains and do a set up with fruit, cookies,ect.. but I have seen such mixed answers about it being a pro or con and I think I have seen more cons then pros, such as it getting hard, its really messy...so on and so on. I would hate to have a mess and a half that we would have to clean up later of it fails to work in the middle of the party. Maybe I should just get one small one and use it at a bridesmaid party of something? I really had my heart set on it but I really dont need more stress then I already have. What do you girls think? Is it worth it?

I bought a small 1 that I plan to use despite the cons that I've read on different sites. I say get it, but try it before the wedding to ensure it runs smoothly. Leave it on for a couiple of hours and see how that goes. Then you can decide. FH and my MOH insist on trying the 1 I got ASAP, but I doubt it's just to ensure it works....lol

The only con I can really think of is the expense.  Buying pre-cut fruit and the chocolate, and all the cookies and pretzles and everything could be pricey.

If you can afford it, I'd say do it.  Put the fountain on a vinyl or plastic tablecloth, not a cloth one, so that you can wipe any dried on chocolate away with warm soapy water.

It would be a nice touch to have - people mingling over the fountain and enjoying themselves.

Looking at your name, I'm guessing you are doing a destination wedding.  Does the resort have one you can rent?  That would save the hassle.

My mom bought me a small one that we tested out at her and my dad's 25th anniversary party. We paid $40 for it at Walmart. I picked up 2 lbs of milk belgian chocolate to use in it. It worked very well and everyone loved it. The chocolate didn't harden and it flowed pretty well throughout the fountain. I'm having my grandma pick up the fruit and cut it up for me, she loves being involved in the wedding, and she said she didn't mind. I don't think it will be stressful at all. All I have to do is have the chocolate ready in a bowl, ask the kitchen to melt it and pour it in the fountain, and it's ready to go for the evening.

I went to a wedding over the summer where they had one and everyone was loving it! I didn't try it, cause I saw 4 kids dipping their fingers in it and I was like "Eww gross where the hell are their parents!" LOL however, still a cool idea...wish I would have got some of the chocolate before the damn kids got crazy in it =P

I would just get one small one for the bridesmaid party, I think. I mean, the idea of what if someone knocked it over is just so scary. But whatever you choose will be great.
