Ask a Question
How much are your girls going to match you?

Hey Everyone,

I just started to think of this last night. How much are your girls dresses going to match yours? I want my girls to have like a simple gown, nothing with lots of poofiness or beads and stuff. Mine won't be as simple.. definitely beading.. (see dresses below) Here's what I was thinking for my girls, but I can't decide between short or long.. they will most definitely be in black. But these are the styles I'm going for.

I want a sweetheart neckline in my dress, so I thought it would be pretty if they wore sweetheart necklines too. What did you choose for your girls? Do you think it really makes a difference? For some reason I thought it would look nicer if they all had sweetheart necklines instead of just me having it and then them having straight across tops. Did you girls think of this? I thought it was kind of random lol, but I wanted to know what you all thought!

I think I love the long dresses best.. they seem even more classy and elegant, although I love the short one as well.

Also we are having Black and Ivory for our colors.. will it matter if I wear light gold? Or should I definitely wear ivory?

I like the short one best, or the one in the middle.  If you wear the light gold or a champagne color, you will pop and stand out against everything.  You will glow like a candle in the dark.

My girls' dresses will be the opposite of mine. Their's is very simple and mine is a lot more detailed. However, the  FG dress will match mine (with no beading, of course).

i think that if you wear the light gold you will stand out especially against the colour of the bridesmaids dresses.  i chose a very dark long purple dress for my girls, and my dress is white with pewter beading so the pewter really stands out against the purple. i really like the short dress and the 2nd dress :)

My bridesmaids will have strapless and so will I.  Theirs will be cocktail length as the wedding is outside in the middle of June:)
I like the sweetheart neckline... I think its flattering on everyone, so I would go with it if your girls like it:)

This is just my personal opinion, but I like it when the bridesmaid's dresses share a similar detail to the bride's dress, and I like your idea of everyone doing a sweetheart neckline.

I was in a wedding where the bride and the bridesmaids had criss-cross spaghetti straps in the back of the dress, and it looked great!

My wedding gown has a lace underlay at the hem, and my bridesmaids have a ruffle detail at the hem of their knee-length dress.  (I have pictures on an inspiration board on my page.)

Thank you everyone! I am glad you all agree about my dress color popping against the black. We decided on white and ivory because white is a little cold, especially for fall. So i am glad you think that my dress in light gold/champagne will look nice.

I am happy about the sweetheart neckline.. I think everyone will look great!

Ultimately, it won't matter . . . but I agree with bananapants, it looks nice when the bridemaids share a detail with the bride's dress.  And, I also agree that the sweetheart neckline would be a nice detail to share.  Tying the whole thing together.

Unless all your girls are super thin, the second dress won't look like that on them.  I think you should also consider the shape of your girls and what would flatter them most.

I know most people say "this is you day," but still you are asking them to stand in front of people and be in lots of pictures too.  The least you can do is make sure they are comfortable in the dress.

So, why not take them (or at least one of them) with you dress shopping . . .let them know your criteria--sweatheart neckline and black . . . and see what yall can find together?

The flowergirl and queen of the bling dresses are mini versions of mine. The bridesmaids and MOH's dresses are matching in the color of my dress' accent, but that is where their similarities end.

I say that you should wear whatever color you like for your wedding. If you dig it, bring it!

Actually, all of my bridesmaids are thin. I will take them all out to try on dresses of course though, these are just my ideas.

The only requirement that I gave my girls is that they all wear the same color (so they are all ordering from the same designer). So they're pretty much not matching me at all. As far as your dress, I love the light gold idea! and I like the short black dress the best! Happy planning!

I agree longer dresses are more classy & elegant! My bridesmaids are wearing long hazelnut dresses with lace on the top with beading in Ivory (My dress is diamond white, that a color in between white & ivory). I found that if I didn't go with longer styled dresses that the wedding wouldn't look as elegant! I also agree with you not wanting to put your bridesmaids in anything taking away from you & keeping it simple, I didn't want my bridesmaids taking away from me either! That's why I went with the color hazelnut insted of a bright color such as bubblegum ect.

I think sweetheart necklines would look nice on all the bridesmaids although, I think if you didn't have the girls in sweetheart necklines it would draw more attention to you and would make you stand out more!

Good luck with everything! :)

I think the light gold will be lovely.  All your ideas do.  I think it will look really nice with everyone wearing the sweetheart necklines.  I like short black dresses best.  It somehow feels a little more 'celebration-ey' to me.

My girls will match me in a few different details.  My dress will be white with a red accent colour, whereas they will be wearing red bridesmaids dresses (possibly with a white sash or other accent).  Also, all the dresses will be strapless.    I think the girls will be wearing tea-length dresses, whereas I'll have a long dress c/w train.
