Ask a Question
anyone bought cuff links before?

What is the best metal to get? Sterling Silver? 18K?
Do all tuxedo shirts need them?
Anything else I should be aware of when buying?

If you already have your tuxes picked out from a certain place, ask them if their tux shirts need cuff links.  If not, ask when you get them.  I got my FH cuff links off of ebay that are Star Wars related since he is a SW nut!  If you decide to get your honey some, look for some that represent him.

Most quality dress shirts need cufflinks. The suit rental place should include them, but every man should own at least one pair of links.

My dude has a few pairs that he wears with his dress shirts to match his tie/ my outfit. For example, he has an aqua argyle tie and his links are aqua striped. I'm currently on a search for classy bumblebee cufflinks for D's wedding outfit since my necklace has a bumblebee charm.

Obviously, gold is a better quality metal. When it comes to links, buy what you can afford and what you think will look good on your dude's cuffs. There are some really cute ones out there to match personalities like ones with fave sports teams, lego, star wars, etc.

My FH loves wearing cuff links when he's dressing up.  He likes the Gold the best, but in all honesty I don't know if he'd even be able to tell the difference!
If your FH is going to wear them fairly often after the wedding, if he has many dress shirts that use them (most shirts don't seem too) then I would go for the gold, but if it's really only for the wedding day then I would do silver and do something a bit funkier maybe something with a stone in the centre that is the colour of the wedding...or something different like fifikiwi suggests:)

my FH also wears cuff links a lot with his dress shirts that he wears to work. he prefers gold cuff links as well, but we do buy sterling silver ones too that he can switch around with his outfits.  there are a huge variety out there so you can get them to match your color themes of your wedding if you want:)

Do the silver, because scratches will show less on them, and trust me cuff links can get trashed!!  Holts has an awesome collection of links if you are looking for FH.  If  you are shopping for the entire wedding party and do not want to spend a lot then I would reccomend silk knots.  Sometimes they come with shirts, if they do then they are probably synthetic but you can also get authentic silk knots which are very simple but classic.  And if you get white ones you can dye them to match your wedding colours!!
