Etiquette for rings during ceremony

So, I was pondering today....what are some ideas for how to handle the engagement ring during the ceremony?

Do you have it carried with your wedding ring and put the band, then the engagement back on?

Do you just have it above the band for awhile?

Wear it on the right hand? And if so...what do you do with a promise ring?

really you can do what you want.. I think I will be wearing mine on my right hand with my ring that FH gave me on our 3rd year anniversary.. then after the ceremony put it on the other hand with my wedding band!

Most brides place their engagement ring on their right hand during the ceremony, then afterwords place it back on the left.
You want to have it for pictures (complete set) and I know myself..I would trust NO ONE to hold my precious engagement ring lol

I plan to wear my engagement ring on my right hand anyway (the setting is unique and there isn't a band to fit it). So I will have it on the right. You could always wear your promise ring on your middle finger.

I wore mine on my left hand during the ceremony- we just put the ring on top of it, and then after the ceremony was over I switched them around. my hands were so swollen I could barely get the ring off, and there was no way it was going to fit on my right hand.

i'm gonna do what sapphire2009 did. keep it on my left, place the band on top then flip them over after the ceremony. just seems easiest to me instead of having one on a different finger and such.

Do it whatever way you want.

Talk it over with your FH. Nerves on the big day may make putting two rings on you very difficult/intimidating.

My suggestion would be to put the wedding band on and switch them afterward (if you want the wedding band closer to the palm - I, personally, prefer the band to be second on the hand and I think this is really up to personal preference) and leave your promise ring on your right hand. But maybe do a practice run to see how this works out and if you're okay with it.

I'm going to wear mine on my right hand.  I have another ring on that hand, so I'll be wearing two things on that hand until after the ceremony when I can move the engagement ring over the wedding band.

I'm going to go the easy route and just wear it on my right hand. After the ceremony I'll just put it back on my left hand.

This might depend on your beliefs about the band ~ I believe the point of the band being placed on your finger first, is that it is closest to your heart - and it is the one that has been blessed (or whatever you do to it during your ceremony before the groom places it on your finger), so therefore, the blessings (etc.) are placed closest to your heart...as well, the band is the ring that you should never have to remove, so, in theory, those blessings will always be close to your heart...
If you believe in any of this, the few seconds it will take of having to switch your engagement ring from your right to your left after the ceremony will be more than worth it.
And I am with someone that made a previous comment; I wouldnt trust anyone with my engagement ring either ;)
As for the promise ring, I would say it depends on how much you like wearing it - it could be a good time to shelf it - or if you really like it and want to keep wearing it, pick a finger and get it sized if necessary...you could always "put it away" for your first daughter!
