Momzilla!!
Ok so sometimes my mom and my future MIL don't quite see eye to eye and while my family has footed most of the bill (except for the Alcohol) and taken on most of the responsibility of the wedding without really asking, my mom feels that there should be more effort from his side. (money isn't an issue on either side)

So when my mom picked July 12th for my Bridal Shower because my Dad is out of town and she'll have the house she let my groom's mom know and she asked her to reschedule because it was my groom's lil bro's birthday the thursday of that week (July 10th and the 12th is a Saturday)

My mom called me this morning and let me know and was livid that after everything she's not helping with...she's now asking her to reschedule. I'm stuck in the middle but can understand BOTH sides. What would you do?

Bachelorette Party....
Ok so what are you girls doing for your stag parties? We're thinking about renting a hotel room somewhere in proximity to the bars then hitting the town. Nobody has to worry about cab fare / cars / transportation in any way and I figure between 6 or 7 girls it'll be only 20 bucks each for the room and then we'll all have a place to get ready / pre-game it for the bar....

what are you doing??

Programs...to do or not to do....
So I've been thinking about my programs. I'm really not sure if I want to do them considering we're having a small wedding of about 80 people consisting of family and close friends.

Originally I was thinking about making the fan type but I don't really like them all that much...so then I was thinking about doing the regular type of program...but most of the type they just end up being used at fans anyways.

I'm thinking about actually purchasing fans as I found somewhere online that sells those little paper ones (12 for $3 or $4) I was thinking about buying those and making a very simple program (similar to the picture)

Ideas?

Location Location Location!
So here it is...
So we choose our location after hearing such great reviews from previous brides and my mom's friend/coordinator/florist/officiant suggesting it. She's also known the owner for a while and so we got some nice discounts!!

The only thing I don't like about this location is the chairs. They have white plastic chairs and as you can see from the pictures, the chair covers they have 'puddle' on the floor and after a night of partying are stepped on and just don't look good. Soooo...I've decided to use black table cloths with dark red napkins and take advantage of the white chairs. Make them stand out and look intentional. What do you girls think??

Also...i LOVE the lights in the ceiling!! We were lucky enough to have gone on a rainy day so we can see their 'back up' plan as well which is really not that bad. Although their outdoor location for the ceremony is beautiful they just split the tables and but the aisle up the middle and you have the ceremony and reception in the same place.

We went for our tasting not too long ago and it's going to be SOOOOOO good. Here's our menu....

Chicken Cordon Swiss Stuffed Breasts
Baked Potato
Manderin Almond Spinach Salad
Pasta Salad
Mixed Garlic Green Beans & Glazed Carrots
Apple Crisp for dessert!

oh god..yes!! And well...the cake for later in the evening with coffee...I've got to loose more weight just so I can have room to fit in my dress and eat all of this!!!

Invitation
My First DIY project....Complete!!
When I first started planing my wedding I came across these ones that i found in LOVE with. Unfortunately the company would only ship to an american address and bill to an american credit card.

Screw that! I decided with a little help, I could probably do them along with my save the date cards myself and I did.

I created the entire thing from scratch but unfortunately I don't have a picture of the actual invitation completed. What I have included in the inside of the invitation, our the inspiration picture and my save the date post card.

The cards themselves are done vertical instead of horizontal like the pictuer with no velum and instead of a red ribbon I have this black shiny card, kind of reminds me of those patten leather shoes we all wore as little girls with a silver sticker in the form of two rings interlocking. I'll have the actual picture up soon!!!

Music Play Lists....
So I'm trying to set a mood with the music I'm using as at the wedding social we had in April (it's a party thrown in the couples honor to raise money for the wedding), the DJ just played middle of the road, 90's music. While it's not bad....I want something a little more memorable.

Think Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall and Micheal Buble (or however it's spelt!)

I'd like to have a piano/martini bar type of feel so does anyone have a play lists or artist suggestions for music ??

This is again a cake that is plain in design but with the way the cake is stacked and the rose petals makes for a very mod and neat look.
Ok...so I KNOW...this one would cost money to make...but it's just SOOOO pretty :)
If you make the diamond patter a little more spaced out my baker let me know there wouldn't be much effort into this one...
You could do the bow with real ribbon rather then fondant...would save LOTS of money.
So this one is specifically for the center tier...we were going to do our dots on our cake like this but Chris didn't like it.
Like the Blue Diamond Cake just more spaced out.
Very Simple and beautiful. A second choice for us.
Simple Red Ribbon helps decorate this plain cake. A good way of saving money on a large cake like this one.,
Again a very simple design that delivers a very big impact.

Cake
Here are some GREAT cakes that I found...
Ok So I live in Winnipeg, MB in Canada and it's this big joke that we're all cheap and well...'know the value of a dollar'.

I've spend HOURS of time online as I sit at a desk for work and well...yeah. I've compiled some pictures of some really great cakes that aren't OVERLY decorated so that when you approach your baker with the picture...you're not spending $12 a slice.

Also...I've found from doing my research with Bakeries in my city...it's not the ones with the trendy store front or website that is going to save you the money. Spend some time looking because alot of women do this sort of stuff out of their house and are looking to save you money too!

For the cake we're doing...I've gotten prices ranging up to $500...and we're only feeding 90 ppl with the cake!!

Cake
Update on my last Cake related post...
So we met with the baker yesterday and we FINALLY picked our cake design and flavours. My romantic husband to be insisted that we have a top teir to save for our first aniversary...awww!!!

We ended up sort of designing our own from two different cakes so it ended up a three teir, red cake which black dots that are similar to the one one in the picture.

Our Baker was even excited to make it since it's different then your typical wedding cake so she's including the red colouring for free in the icing since we were going to nix it for cheaper white butter cream.

The bottom layer is this 'Real Strawberry' flavour with big chunks of strawberry in the cake and a strawberry cream filling...oh my god....I'm almost getting married because of this cake now!!!

The second layer my cutie picked...it's lemon with raspberry filling...meh...i'm not such a fan but whatever....I've got until August to make him drool over some other flavor and change his mind. I just sent him an email at work with the other delicious flavours she has all innocently saying..."I don't think you've even seen the whole list babe...not that I'm doubting your decision...just wanted to make sure you knew what you had to choose from"

Tee hee...I'm Evil!

Our top layer...is a Chocolate Chip Mint...thing girl guide cookie meets pepermint pattie. This is the one we're keeping for our first honey moon...I have a feeling it'll be good thawed...1/2 frozen...fully frozen..whatever!

topper
Minus the flower...add our cake topper and the cake would be in red.
With Roses or our topper instead of orchids
Minus the yellow 'swirl' and the cake again would be in red.

Ask a Question
Cake...which one would you pick?
I've got my tasting tonight and we've come to a couple of cakes that we think we're going to pick however we're still not sure...HELP!!

Also...think red...most of these cakes would be red with either white black or silver decorations. I also included my cake topper too...I LOVE my cake topper :)

Bouquets!!!
So after many headaches by Jan, my coordinator/florist/officiant, I have FINALLY picked my bouquets.

Keeping with the classic red, black and diamonds theme I've chosen, I decided to stick with white roses for myself and red for my girls. The guy's boutineer's will reflect this as well.

The front...except the long sash is sort of sewn up into a bow...not a big big one...but i thought it just looked like something was untied with just the knot.

Wedding Dress
Here's the dress...
So I think this was the 4th or 5th dress I actually tried on and it was PERFECT! While I tried on more, this one fit PERFECTLY and was just very me...classic and not overly done up. Once my mom saw it...we both just knew it was the right one.

Accessories
Just bought my shoes!!
So I know they're not your typical 'wedding' shoes however I'm getting married on grass and the straps on the shoes actually match the sash on my wedding dress. Also once I put them on...they're SOOOOOOO comfortable..and really with my dress...who's going to be seeing those shoes anyways!!
