DIY Wedding
I GOT MARRIED! Here's a sneak peek of our BIG DAY!
So - I totally fell off the 'blog about my wedding process' wagon. Life got in the way and things got too hectic the closer we got to our big day.
For the most part everything was fantastic. The venue was gorgeous, my DIY dessert table and centrepieces all looked amazing AND the photo booth was a HUGE hit among our guests. Everyone had so much fun and they're still raving about it on Facebook (it was August 4th - so by social media terms we're doin' pretty good ;) As a last minute decision we ended up hiring a newly emerging video team to document our day and they put together a TOTALLY AMAZING 'Highlight' video for us. For those of you interested, you can watch it here: vimeo.com/airau/jeddyandwindy So far I've received a small sampling of the photos from our photographers and put this little collage together to share - it offers a little taste of our decor, venue and theme. If you have any questions - hit me up! I'll update more photos as I receive them. Good luck to all you lovely ladies. Remember - the day will go by so quickly it may seem like a blurr - take a few moments whenever you can to be present in the moment and appreciate everyone who made it to share your special day! At least that's what I did... |

Wedding Dress
Uh-oh. I found another dress.
So as you may all recall from a previous post - I was 'gifted' a dress from my soon-to-be sister-in-law. It was her second dress that she never wore and wasn't able to sell. It looked nice and fit me... so I figured it would be the one I wore.
Here we are a few months before the wedding and I stumble across THIS beautiful gown from inweddingdress.com. I'm not pro-online wedding dress purchasing since I've heard so many horror stories - but the dress is only $239 and I read the reviews first - and worst comes to worst I'll sell it or return it if it's horrible... BUT IT WONT BE. It'll be awesome. I feel SO GUILTY about wanting another dress when I was given a perfectly gorgeous SILK GOWN... but my heart is telling me that this new one will make me feel like a princess on our special day when the other one was pretty... but didn't feel like 'me'. What about you lovely ladies? Have you gone through multiple dresses or did you fall in love (and stay loyal) to just one? I'm interested to know... |

Wedding Rings And Jewelry
Repaired Engagement Ring!
I am SO THANKFUL that my fiancé opted in for the additional coverage and warranty on my ring. While on a recent trip to San Deigo for a work conference, one of the diamonds from the outer halo fell out! I was so upset.. I even tried looking in the carpet of the conference room for it (until he picked me up and assured me it could be repaired asap)!
I felt naked being without it for two whole weeks and actually wore a vintage ring he bought me a few years ago as a 'stand in' so I didn't keep freaking out when I felt my bare finger (I kept forgetting it was being fixed... lol). How about you ladies? Did you opt for lifetime coverage and warranty on your wedding jewellery? Have you had any issues with losing stones from your rings? It stressed me out! Glad it's over with. |

Update - Centrepieces
So quite awhile ago I posted a photo of one of my hand made centrepieces. It was a little bare and a lot of work has been done on them since... so I'm sharing an updated photo.
Each vase has a unique ribbon or element around the top - some are rosettes, some are rhinestone and some are bling-y. I also have a bridesmaid helping our tremendously with making the flowers (it's a LOT of work).. and she does a fantastic job. So far we've been able to complete about 7 centrepieces, my bridal bouquet and two bridesmaid bouquets. We only need about... 150-200 more flowers! Hahahaha... waaaaah. |

Wedding Dessert Table
Some sweet samplings for our guests!
Yes - we ARE having a wedding cake (two, in fact)... one large fondant cake, the other a smaller coconut buttercream cake.
Because I LOVE gourmet goodies I've decided to do a spin on the regular 'candy buffet' by offering a small sampling of various custom gourmet desserts and candies from local bakeries and from Etsy. There will be some candy, but most of the table will be one-of-a-kind, custom treats for guests to sample. I like this because it promotes a lot of local businesses AND the handmade wonders of Etsy. Two of the items I am MOST excited about are: Custom lollipops from TheGroovyBaker on Etsy (see pic) including 'lime in the coconut', 'gold alchemy' and 'orange blossom thyme'... .. and awesome cubed gourmet marshmallows from HaveItConfections' shop including 'toasted coconut' and 'cocoa hazelnut swirl'. (see pic) I am sooo excited! I'll definitely be sampling some of these goodies as they arrive before the wedding. Hahaha. |

Wedding Invitation
Design finalized, printed & ready to send!
So instead of a traditional wedding invitation, my fiancé and I decided to opt for a fun 'invitation package' complete with a postcard invite, mini trifold brochure (the 'info' booklet') and custom mailing labels/envelopes.
Rather than having guests mail-in their RSVPs, we are encouraging our guests to RSVP through our website OR call (if they do not have internet access). Here's a sneak peek of what the package looks like. On the website our guests can RSVP, request songs for our DJ, book their accommodation, make travel plans and find out more about our town (since most of them are visiting from other States / Provinces). I am also creating a one-page (printer-friendly) downloadable PDF for guests to print off with all of our emergency contact information, directions and travel tips. We have 5 months until the big day... and although I've had MORE than enough time to plan (we got engaged exactly one year ago today), I still feel like I won't be prepared and am forgetting crucial things. I imagine many of you other brides feel the same way... all the time in the world and still not enough ;) Cheers! - WM |

Wedding Invitation
Invitation Design Dilemma - Help!
So I'm stuck in a rut. I designed and sent out our Save the Dates a few months ago (see design in previous post) and still absolutely love them. However, my fiancé has shared that he wants something 'fun' and that includes a photo of us for the actual invitation - which isn't consistent with the STD design.
Nonetheless, this entire process (planning, wedding AND marriage) is about compromise.. so I'm trying my best to incorporate a fun, goofy image into a similar theme (see img). I have used a similarly colored, textured background to stick with the tactile, DIY 'feel' of the STD's... but added a photographic element to reflect our 'goofy' side. I know some brides are strictly for elegant and tradition (this design being neither of those), but I would love some feedback about this. He loves it and I can't decide if I do. Does it even matter if the invitations are 'matchy-matchy' to the Save the Dates? Can I break the mold and do something different for each? Thoughts? |

Wedding Accessories
I found shoes to match my dress!
So I've decided to wear two pairs of shoes for the wedding. Heels for the ceremony (since I'll only be on my feet for 2-3 hours max), and comfortable flats for the reception and partying!
I ended up finding BOTH shoes yesterday for a combined total of under $50. I couldn't believe the deal I scored (sale items in my size). The heels are a champagne color and match my dress perfectly. The flats are little metallic 'loafer' style... and sooo comfortable. My fiancé is at least 4" shorter than me standing flat foot... so our ceremony will be hilarious with me in heels.... but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's who we are! How about you ladies? Are you opting for 'ceremony' heels and comfy shoes for the reception? It's hard to choose between practicality or lookin' fabulous ;) |

Wedding Flowers
Balsam wood boutonnieres from Etsy!
So I fell in love with these hand made balsam wood boutonnieres that I saw on etsy. They're flowers made of balsam wood with feathers and wrapped in vintage lace.
I ordered them yesterday.. but it'll take a few weeks before she can even make them. They'll be arriving in a month or two (I have plenty of time, so I'm not worried)... but I couldn't wait to share these with someone! Since we have a lot of DIY and Filipino elements in our wedding (my fiancé is from Philippines), I thought these would look fantastic will the guys' barongs. If he loves them, I'm happy! |

Custom DIY Cake & Dessert Stands.
After Google-ing a TON of stands and displays for our dessert buffet I decided to do this myself too. I know I'm crazy.
How I started: Went to Value Village and various second-hand stores and stocked up on cool 'n vintage dishes - plates for the top and wine glasses or candle stems for the base. The I decorated each separately by adhering mini crystals around the edge and filling the clear wine glass with diamond-like gemstones. Lastly, glue 'em together! I used a SUPER strong glue specifically for dishes/china/porcelain. This is the end result! Total cost to make one? About $4.00. |
