I want to do this! These petals are SO much cheaper at the Dollar Tree! I'm just afraid if I dye them red, some may turn out pink! BUT I think it might be worth it to try anyways!

I would definitely give one package a test run. They have red Rit Dye (vs pink) so I'm sure they will work. You just may have to boil them a little longer to get the desired color. I also added a few drops of food coloring as well.

I never thought of dying the flowers, I was going to go to Michael's and just buy the $5.99 box with my 40% off coupon.

How expensive was the Rit dye?

The Rit Dye is less than $2 at Walmart...... CHEAP!
I would definitely buy the petals from Dollar Tree. The bags come with 300 petals and I think I bought 5. Depending on how many petals you want, it's still going to be very inexpensive!!!

Oh, and they really do look better in person. I took the picture when they were still wet. Once they dried they look even more fabulous =)

I dyed them in 2 different batches and left the first batch in longer than the second batch. That way, I had different variations of the same color.

OH, and the petals tend to stick together, so once they dried I went through and made sure none of them were stuck.

Well if they don't turn out, you just wasted $1. Try another batch! The trick is the amount of time you leave them in the water. Take a few out to test them when they look like they are getting to the look you want. Good luck girls

I'm actually doing this right now with Royal Blue Rit dye and Dollar Tree petals. They're looking good so far. Very easy! Just leave in longer until you get the desired color. Note: the color gets lighter as it dries so before taking them all out test dry one petal.
