Ask a Question
Is a wedding planner really needed?
SO last week my fiance' and I went to the Piedmont Room here in Atlanta to finally check out our wedding site. The place is gorgeous. They offer so much, the staff are very hands on. At that moment I realized that there is so much planning that needs to be done. So I've be consulting a dear friend who is a wedding planner, she really wants to help me plan our wedding. However, our ideas are soooooooo different. I really feel as if I can plan my own weddding, but my cousin said having a wedding coordinator on the day of your wedding is a MUST. There are things that I won't be able to do or handle. Question???? How many brides have wedding planners and are they really needed????

Depends on the size of the wedding. I don't need one, I'm only having about 120 guests..

A BIG MUST! I had a party of 85. I had two and they fixed so many problems I never even knew about!! The planner can have different ideas, but needs to be told only to execute YOURS. It's you wedding and money, not theirs.

Tara...I most definitely have a planner. I can't imagine not having one; especially the day of our wedding and helping out with the smallest detail.
Luckily, I will have two that day, the Glendalough Manor where we are getting married at has assigned us a wedding planner as well. They will make sure that all of our flowers have been order, schedule our taste test, decorations...etc.

Flowers, booked caterer, booked chocolate fountian, booked DJ, the hall, Officant, decorations EVERYTHING i mean its possiable and not difficult. I planned my wedding in about 6 months. :) i would love to help if you need any cute ideas JUST ASK

I dont think youwill need a wedding planner if you are doing all the work yourself

yes!! you definitley need somebody on site that day to get everyone together. you also need someone make sure the reception decor is going off without a hitch.  You could ask someone in the family...but i would rather have my family relax and have a good time, and not scrambling around to get everything done and not enjoying the day.

HAVING A WEDDING PLANNER CAN BE PRICEY IF YOU ARE COUNTING EVERY PENNY LIKE WE ARE. SO WE HAVE SOMEONE WHO IS DOING IT FOR FREE, THANK GOODNESS. MAYBE YOU CAN ASK FRIENDS OR FAMILY WHO WON'T MIND ASSISTING YOU ON YOUR DAY AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU AND YOUR WEDDING PLANNER AREN'T SEEING EYE TO EYE.

Another bride was askng the same thing. My venue does not provide one BUT i just hired one fo rthe rehearsel and big day. I say its a must also. I didnt want to put the stress on my family to set up the tables , direct guest, direct vendors etc.... I will be getting ready in a hotel 15 minutes away & do NOT want to be worried about wht is going on.  I have planned everything witho ut one but Id ef  feel for the big day it would be a good idea... and put your mind at ease!:=)

There is a big difference between a planner and a Day of Coordinator. The brides who have a planner get help/guidance picking out everything from vendors to flowers, bridesmaid dresses etc. A planner is exactly what the title entails, a planner. They help you plan your wedding, or plan one with your imput. A Day of Coordinator is just what the title entails, a coordinator for the day of your wedding. They typically get involved a few months before the wedding, help you with your timeline and are your personal attendant the day of your wedding, whether setting up the reception hall, passing out programs, fixing your hem or pinning boutonnieres.

If you need a lot of help then you might need a wedding planner. But if you have all your ideas and are executing them you're fine without a planner.

I do recommend a Day of Coordinator, neither you, your family or bridal party will have to worry about vendors who are late, buttons popping off, cake falling down etc. Your DOC will take care of it, and you won't even know about it.

I'm an in between bride. I already signed a contract for DOC services and everything else is a la carte and by the hour. I however have very little time for certain things. I work full time and go to law school. So between work, school and studying I don't have as much time as other people.

If you don't want to spend money on a DOC I suggest having a friend that you trust fill in that role. I believe that is more of a personal attendant but you could extend the role to making sure everything is running smoothly.

We are not hiring a wedding planner, but we have a family friend who loves to do weddings and is helping me find decorations, where to find good venues and even doing all the floral arrangements! She is amazing and is a huge help! I call her my wedding coordinator because she is also the one to get me out of the house and look at different ideas. She will also be there the day of the wedding to help put the hall together. It has been a huge help, but definitely find someone who can coordinate and knows all your plans for the big day!

I'm glad we had one, well I mean two. That way NO ONE at the wedding had to work AT ALL. They were able to just relax and enjoy the day and party like rockstars!!!!
