So much money, so little time
I've had a huge dilemma in trying to figure out what to do about the photography. It's near impossible to find people to take pictures and put together an album for less than $2000. Why in the world would I want to pay that much just for pictures? I don't care how good they are.

Then I thought, well I'll just get my sister to take pictures because she's good at it and has an awesome camera, but I wanted her to be in my wedding party, so that was crossed out.

Then I've had everyone suggest to me to just have someone we want there to take pictures, but who wants to come to a wedding to enjoy themselves and get stuck taking pictures all night long? Not to mention, anyone I would invite to my reception would most likely be drunk by the end of the night and I think that might reflect in the quality of the photos. Hmmmm...

So, unless someone can give me a better suggestion, I think we're leaning towards Portraits Express and Cakes @ SanAntoniophotos.net. They're a small bit cheaper at least...

I have been checking craig's list lately under "events" and "creative" and have found a few photogs just starting out, who are trying to build their portfolios. Some of them are really really good, but because they're new on the scene they're prices are a lot lower than some of the other photogs I had been looking into.

Daisybride has a really good idea.
Also, don't be afraid to go with word of mouth.
I, as much as I am a photography freak, also do not want to dish out $2,000 for photos (I can't find anything cheaper than $1,890, besides the people I have and I've stopped looking).
Also, any local community colleges, universities or other in your area? Even a high school with a photography class. You can call and ask professors or teachers for students names who show potential and may want to photograph on the side. If they're unable to give names, ask them if they would be willing to post a notice for students to contact you (most teachers, myself included, would feel more comfortable with the second option).
Good luck!

This is my second wedding.  The first time around I went with a cheaper photographer and thought that with other peoples pic and the photographer I would be okay.  Nope.  Just remember when the day is all over and done all you and your honey will have are memories and photos and well they need to be as beautiful as you on your day.

I also recommend craigslist for people that are building their portfolio, but I wouldn't let anyone do my wedding unless they have done one or two party events. Ask to see their portfolio, even if they don't have any wedding pics maybe they have pictures of another party?

We also have this dilemma, but we found a way around it. We found a REALLY good photographer in our area and hired him out for just an hour for just $200, compared to $1,500 for the whole day. Our wedding day is also on a weekday, so he wanted the extra cash. Then for the reception we found a cute gal advertising herself on craigslist working towards her bachelor in photo journalism who will do our reception, so I get the best of two worlds!
