Thursday wedding?????

OKay, we are finally planning our wedding! yay me! lol but we've been running into a few problems as far as the venues we want and availability. It was suggested to us to have our wedding on a Thursday night. Most of our guests are local, we do have a few family members from out of state but even if we had it on a Saturday they more than likely would just send a card. Our bridal party and immeadiate family (parents, grandparents and siblings) say that a Thursday is perfectly fine for them.

My question is: has anyone ever held a weekday wedding or attended one? What was your experience?

We're thinking of doing first look and family photos at 5pm, cocktail hour at 6pm, then ceremony at 7 and reception starting no later than 7:45 with everything ending at 11:30pm. Is this a reasonable time line? I figured doing cocktail hour first would give us the chance to mingle with guests and allow everyone time to get there. Does this seem feasible?

Any advice would be great!!! Thanks!

Well, I'm having a Friday night wedding. It's cheaper and still people won't have to get up for work. Honestly, if it was me, I would survey my most important ppl that I would have to have there and see if Thur would work for them. If that doesn't matter to you (which is fine also b/c it's your day) then choose whichever day suits you best.

you know, I don't know about the time line myself.Everything is @ the same place. Our ceremony is 6pm-6:30pm,  cocktail hour 6:30-7:30p, followed by dinner. we wanted to do first look photos, but I don't how long that would take as there isn't anything outside hotel to take pics. So I'm still undecided about that. I also see your a Chicago bride! I'm close too! Our ceremony will be by Ohare airport.

I went to a wedding on a Thursday in Florida some years ago. It was very nice and the two people that were getting married did it because it saved them a lot on their budget. It was a small wedding, but it turned out nice. If you set it up and give people enough notice in a advance, it shouldn't be a real problem. Of course, you can't please everyone, but you can still have your day they way you want. Weekday weddings are very nice. It's not uncommon to have a Thursday or Friday wedding.

Yayyyy Thursday Bride My Wedding is Thursday July 11th 2013. Our Main reason was budget. By having our Wedding on a Thursday evening we Get To have our Wedding at a beautiful venue And The price per person goes from 110pp For Saturday To 65pp And with almost 200 guest thats a huge price difference. We thought Long And hard before we booked but It came down To what we can afford And live after And anyone that My FH And I mean anything To Will be there. So we booked it. Everyone has no problem with taking days off And are estatic about our union. We made The ceremony For 630pm so even ppl who dont want To take The day off or a half Of day can attend. Our venue coordinator told us they have been booking a ton Of Thursday weddings. So My advise DO IT GIRL. Like I said those who,matter Will have no issue with it. Let me know what you decide:)

Thank you all so much for your feedback! We talked to just about everyone and they all seem fine, but I'm not sure if they're just saying that to not cause trouble and then actually don't show up lol My father lives in California and he says this works out better for him, since it will be cheaper to fly during the week and he can have an extended weekend. And Kstewart it seems weddings in Chicago are a pain lol We will be in Northlake, hopefully at the Midwest Conference Center :)

Yes, we looked into that place. It's really nice! We're doing it @ the Mirage Banquets @ Four Points Sheraton Hotel. It's nice and the prices are good for a Friday. It also includes a lot of great things. Check it out if you're interested.

Just another note where is It written in stone that weddings must be on a Saturday lol Its your day do what you see fit Its 2012 And many ppl have nom traditional jobs I Work in a 24hr 7 day a week facilty And dont hav e  weekend off And many Of My coworkers dont eith er so its not a big deal. Just points To think about One Of The WBC Brides just got married last Thursday And she had a wonderful day

Due to availability of our venue our wedding is taking place on a Friday evening! I've noticed that at our venue not only were all the saturdays booked, but there were only a few friday slots available, and now I'm seeing thursdays are starting to fill up.  But theres nothing wrong with your timeline. My ceremony will begin at 5pm, assuming the ceremony only lasts 30min or so...cocktails are from 5:30-7:00...shouldn't take more than 30 min to get everyone seated inside since it's all in the same location, intoduce the bridal party, with dinner starting at 7:30, dancing will probably start around 9-ish and reception ending at midnight! I like having the reception on a weekday because it gives me the weekend to spend with my out of town relatives and tie up any loose ends before leaving for our honeymoon. I don't worry about the guests too much, most of the time they have a year in advance to make arrangements for the wedding!

You guys have really reinforced my thinking that this would be okay! I posted this question in another forum and got so many negative and rude comments! If we just can't find an open Saturday then we'll stick with the Thursday like our family suggested. Ksteward78 that place is gorgeous! mz2handgrip that seems like a nice and solid timeline and that was our thinking as well, people will have over a year to make arrangements if they wish to be there.

My wedding day is a on a week day Friday the 13th of all days but we are having it late in the day so that everyone will be able to attend and the venue closes at 11 so a 5 hour wedding is fine enough for me. We plan on doing our photos early in the day for lighting purposes.

If they care about you, theyll go!! Dont let them act like they dont go out on Thursdays! LOL!
At the end of the day, everyone who cares about you two will be there even if its a tuesday.
