I had originally decided on Braid Paisley's "He Didn'T Have to Be." I 'knew' this was the song I wanted for the father-daughter dance from the moment I got engaged. But now that I listen to it, I don't know that I want a song that says "I hope im half the DAD he didn't have to be."
My step dad is the only dad I have ever know, and we butt heads the entrie time I was growing up. Now that I'm out of the house and that I have started standing my ground when we disagree, our relationship is so much better. I see now that he wasn't trying to ruin my life or treat me differently than my brother and sister because I wasn't his child. He did a lot for me and tried to teach me to walk a morally straigth line and live my life by the values I was taught.
We still have our differences. He is a very religious person and I have a lot of trouble agreeing with organized religions. And, he is the only person in my and my FH's families that do not know we are living together. Long story short, he would never talk to me again if he found out.
Anywyas, after all that background, it comes down to this: I need to find a song that's heartfelt but not too mushy. A song that tells him how proud I am to be his DUAGHTER and that he did a wonderful job as a dad. I also want, if possible, a song that just says thank you.
I see this song as the page turner in a new chapter in the relationship my dad and I have. I know its just a song, but it is extremely important that I find the right song for this dance. My dad has never been one to get overly emotional and he is a man of few words. When I know he's most proud of me, I smiles and says "congratulations." I need this to be the song that brings tears to his eyes and makes him unable to say anything.
Please help me with this ladies. If there's anyone who can make this a reality, it's you ladies!!!
