Flowers
Long-lasting flowers?
Having just gone to my first wedding of the year, I've surreptitiously been on the lookout for the kinds of flowers I want for the wedding. I really want something simple and elegant looking that's streamlined, nothing too big. My favourite flowers are lilies, orchids and tulips and I'm not too much of a rose person.
I digress.... So anyway, I went to the wedding (beautiful!) and they had an abundance of orchids which were just stunning! They were on the pews, and when we got to the reception, they were on the bar tables, and as centerpieces. The one thing I noticed throughout the day was that the orchids began to wilt halfway through. I don't really want to spend money on something that will wilt halfway through the day... My friend who got married last year had calla lillies that were pristine after the day and when I took my bouquet home, it looked as fresh as it did when I got it the morning of the wedding... it lasted a good two or three days before it started to wilt a little. I don't really want to go the calla lily route though. What are you going to have as flowers? Do you expect yours to last through the day or do you basically know it's going to be a write-off? |

Stardream's Fairway (FUSE series) |
Invitation
I can't believe how expensive paper can get!
Ok, so I've been playing around with the idea of making my own invitations. Here's the deal: I live in Vancouver and there is a limited amount of vendors in the city where you can actually get paper to make your own invitations other than going to Michaels or getting one of those pre-made invitation packages at Staples or Office Depot.
The only place you can really get nice paper (as far as I know) is Paper Poet in New Westminster. They have a great selection and I fell in love with Stardream's Fairway in their FUSE series (see picture). It's like a bamboo/jade green with flecks of mica in it so it sparkles and is the absolute perfect colour for our wedding. I've tried going on eBay to see if I can get it cheaper it's about $1.49 per sheet. When I did go to Paper Poet for this, I was told that the Italian company that makes these only does one run a year and so if they are out, they're out. And of course, when I went there last, they were out. Ahhh!!!! Good thing I started early on this. :( Does anyone else know of a place I can get this paper (120 lbs) for cheap? |

Obsession...
It's too late to save me - I'm knee deep in it
I swear, since I was told about this website a week ago, I have been obsessed with it. I am totally excited about my own wedding but since most of my friends are now married, their wedding frenzy has subsided... so it's nice to be able to be in a community where other people are going through the same thing :)
I'm even checking on blogs at work. I know, I know. It's bad. But what can I do? :) tags:

String Quartet |
Ceremony Music
Should I or shouldn't I?
OK, so here's my dilemma. I have always dreamed of walking down the aisle with a violinist playing in the background but I'm on a tight budget and there are so many other things I could be spending the money on... the clubhouse manager at the country club suggested something that really piqued my interest - he told he that he's seen other couples hire music students (either doing their masters or in their 4th year) to play for about 45 minutes and give them a small fee. Then I could have my violinist and it wouldn't break the bank. He then proceeded to hand me his list of music students that the university had sent him.
Should I do it? I don't think it would cost all that much... |

A Girl's Best Friend
...next to her ring, of course!
OK, so I've been in a few weddings and I know that at the end of the day (ok, at the end of the 6 hour picture session...) all I want to do is kick off my shoes and slip into some comfortable flip flops, but I am looking for a KILLER pair of shoes to wear in the meantime. I would prefer something flatter but since he's about a foot taller than me, I need something that doesn't make me look entirely shrimpy.
So here are some of the ones that I've found that I really like. I'm partial to the peeptoes but the pointy-toed ones are growing on me too. I really REALLY love the 7th pair (Grazia's Ava) but I don't see myself being able to wear it to anything else... I also like Something Blue's Claudia as it's definitely wearable! tags: shoes

Hair Style
Choices, choices!
Just a few of the hairstyles I'm thinking about... I really like the half up, half down look but I found a few hairstyles that are so classic as well. My favourite is the style with the comb - my hair is stick straight and doesn't hold curls very well so I'm thinking this style might last longer than the curled ones.

Dean Sanderson Weddings Sarah and Bryan ![]() ![]() |
Photography
Got the best photographer!
We picked Dean Sanderson as our photographer - he is SO amazing! The couple that's on the 2nd picture is one of his photos - it's actually my best friend and her husband, Sarah and Bryan that he took at their wedding last year. She had given him rave reviews and I actually wanted someone else but after having worked with him (I was her maid of honour and she'll be my matron of honour) and having seen his pictures, I knew that I had to get him too. We were lucky to have booked him so early (he was actually our first booking!) because he's already almost booked for 2009! He made the wedding party feel so comfortable and we had so much fun with him so I'm really excited to have him capture our day. Wheee!!!

Flowers
I am in love... with this bouquet!
I have a feeling that this is going to be a very expensive bouquet. I originally wanted lilies but I think that this bouquet is just so much more... me. I really wanted to have my bridesmaids have tulips because it's just the feel that I want, but I don't think that I can get tulips in August in Vancouver... can I?
My colours are shantung green (chartreuse) and crisp white so I think that this bouquet will go well together. |

Ask a Question
Save the Date Cards
I think this might seem like a silly question, but I'm wondering WHO to send the save the date cards to - does everyone get one? I have a friend who sent it out to everyone and most of her guests were in town. I have some family coming in from overseas who I would like to give a heads up to so I'll send it to them but I thought that the invitation about 3 months ahead was notice enough for in-town guests... any thoughts?
