DIY Kissing Ball- 1st attempt

Ok so I saw a couple of other brides' posts... And they all looked so great I figured I could give this a whirl...

I bought everything at a Dollar Tree, with the exception of the ribbon bows (can't see them in pic I posted, but there at the top of the ball).

The pic with the "gem" is actually floral wire (silver) with a glass-mirror bead, that I rigged together. This adds some bling, AND its way cheaper than buying floral gem picks...

I am going to paint the styrofoam balls hot pink before I put the flowers in, just in case there are any gaps...thats the one thing I HAVE to fix from now on, everything else about making these was a breeze!

So HONESTLY-- How do they look?

Any suggestions? What should I improve?

To Aquaeyedbride--

I went to Dollar Tree I found bunches of roses, popped the heads off (they slide right off the stem), and tacked them in the styrofoam ball (from Dollar Tree) with sewing pins.

But before you tack them in-- I find that it looks better if you paint the styrofoam the color of the ball (i used .94 paint rom Wal Mart's craft section)

Then I would tack in the ribbon (from Walmart- 1.97) in a loop for a handle and then cut an additional piece and tack that ribbon in as the tail...

THEN I would tack the flower heads in and BOOM you are done!!

It really is easy once you get your method down pat...

I then strung the beads I like on the floral wire and poked them in to add some BLING.

I am horrible with directions and I know these are sorta ass-backwards--- If you need more info please let me know!!!

O yeah.. for anyone wonder how much to buy...  I think I used 8 or 9 bundles of flowers (from Dollar Tree/$1 bundle/has 6 flower heads on it) for a 6 inch styro foam ball--

I did a 3 in styrofoam ball (the ones in the Dollar Tree for a $1) and used about 5 bundles..

From what I have read on here from other posts- its a traditional thing like mistletoe (sp?) at Christmas... The bride and the groom are supposed to kiss when under...  Thats all I know... They are pretty!!!  : )
