Old Navy Flip Flops are $1!!!!
****UPDATE: I called the store....I can purcahse all my flip flops today, and if I bring the reciept in tomorrow they will do a price adjustment. Woohoo! No worry about if they will have stock or not!****
Funny thing is that I was at Michael's yesterday and I purchased a bunch of flip flops for $1.50 each. I thought that was a good price. I had heard of the infamous Old Navy sale, but I had never actually seen it and didn't want to chance it. So I cleared Michael's out of their pink and black flip flops. I was going to post soon once I had my ribbons tied around the shoes, but I may actually be returning them! I heard Old Navy was having their sale tomorrow, but wasn't sure if that was just in the States, or if it was here in Canada too. I called up the store and yes we are having the same sale!!!! Yay!!!! Because everything is ALWAYS more expensive here in Canada. I am so glad we can get the flip flops for $1.00 too! The store opens tomorrow at 7:00 am. Yikes! But I will probably be there. I really want all the pink and black ones, and maybe some whites. :D Quesstions: - Does anyone know how the quality of the Old Navy flip flops compares to those at Michaels? - How many flip flips would you recommend for 120 guests? I figured about 30....want to know what all you other ladies are doing! - How many of each size? My feet are a 7-8, so I naturally assume that most ladies have that size of feet. What sizes are you ladies purchasing your flip flops in? Good thing that most flip flops are a forgiving fit and can fit most feet! |

Ceremony Location
I have finally taken some pictures!
At first we were toying with the idea of having the ceremony directly on the beach, but have finally decided it would be easiest to have it on the patio overlooking the ocean. I am a little concerned that the space will be a little tight for our 120 guest, but FH seems to think it will be fine. Regardless, the view will be breathtaking! We will set up a simple gazebo between the two lamps to exchange our vows. Now I have a lot of planning to do to decorate the area! |

Wedding Flowers
Mrs Gap has been working on her bouquet!
****I don't know if it's just my computer or camera, but the pics I uploaded look very "fabricy" and have a lot of grainy lines on them. In person the flowers look very smooth and realistic. :D**** This beautiful picture is the inspiration for my bouquet. I fell in love instantly once I saw it! And thankfully, the lady who created it also left detailed instructions and a list of flowers on her blog. Woohoo! I was so worried about choosing a bouquet because I know nothing about flowers, but this lady made it so very easy. The inspiration used light pink roses with hot pink peonies, but I was not able to find them. So I reversed the colours and used light pink peonies and hot pink roses. :D I was at Michael's yesterday to see what kind of flowers they had. I was so disappointed! They were (IMO) way over priced and looked really cheap and fake. Most of them were dirty and dusty too. Really not impressed. I then headed over to Walmart and was amazed by their flowers and prices! I know....I am shocked too! :D Walmart actually had much nicer flowers than Michael's for a fraction of the cost. Score! The pics I have posted are from my very first attempt at putting the bouquet together last night. I still need A LOT more practice, but thank goodness the artificial flowers are so resilient. I also think I will change up a few flowers as I go along. I would like the mini calla lilies to be a darker pink, and I will see if I can find some double headed tulips. I also do not like the veronica, and want to see what the bouquet will look like with black fiddle-head ferns instead. Altogether the bouquet cost just over $70. In the end, I may actually get it made with real flowers (just need to get a quote!). QUESTIONS: How many of you are using artificial flowers for your bouquet? And how much on average are you ladies spending on your bouquets, either real or artificial? |

DIY Wedding
MrsGap's very first completed DIY project!
I ordered some glassine envelopes off ebay, then printed out the monogram at home. I embossed the black card-stock so it wouldn't look so blah, then put it all together with pink and black ribbons. I finished 100 of them (should be good enough for our 120 guests). At first FH thought the idea was cheesy, but once they were finished he was really liking them. As per his request, I didn't label them as "tears of joy" because the thought that was lame, and I wasn't down with calling them "booger catchers." What do you ladies think? |

MrsGap's Crystal Tree Update!
And in other news.... We went on a terribly long hike back up the side of the mountain where our crystal tree branches grow. We selected two beautiful specimen. Once back at home however, we were getting overwhelmed with trying to figure out sizes of the trees, and methods of securing them to a base. The branches just all seemed too big and awkward and we couldn't decide on height or dimensions. At one point FH decided to give up on having crystal tree centerpieces. :(:(:( So this morning I sat down and VERY carefully read over the directions on how to make a crystal tree. I made some notes, got out my measuring tape, and tried again. And we were successful!!! Here is what we did: - our containers are 5" slate cubes -our branches are 4' tall. We made sure that 2' of the branches are stem (so it wouldn't obstruct our guests' view, and the other 2' are branches for the crystals) - we secured the branches with rocks and expanding spray foam. BTW, the website says that the stuff sets in 15 minutes. FALSE!!! We sat there holding the branches for over 45 minutes until the foam set solid enough for us to walk away. The pics of the trees are only half finished, but I was so excited I wanted to post anyways. We still need to trim the back to the level of the base containers and cover it with something pretty. We will be spray painting the branches to be a metallic/pearlescent colour. You will notice that the branches are covered with ribbon. Odd, I know, but a very useful step! We weren't sure how many strands of crystals we would need so we hung ribbons in place. Each ribbon is one foot in length. The tree we hung with brown ribbon used 31 length, and the silver ribbon tree used 50 one foot lengths. Quite a difference! I am glad we did it this way so I know about how many strands of crystals to order. The website I referenced suggested 20 - 25 one foot strands, so I am glad I double checked because this many would be WAY too few for my taste. In summary: Our trees are 4' tall and each will hold on average 40 one foot lengths of 16mm crystals. My advice: Use 4' tall trees for table top centerpieces. Anything smaller just looks too small. Use gloves when using spray foam to secure the branches. Ruins the manicure. Believe me. :( 15 minute drying time is just a guideline. Expect to be sitting there for longer. Spray foam cans are usually just a one time use. Either be prepared to do all your trees at once or to toss the can. Use ribbons to help you determine how many strands of crystals you will need. |

Wedding Decoration
MrsGap's first centerpiece mock-up!
We will have 15 tables. I originally wanted to do this on eight tables, and crystal trees (posted previously in my blog) on the other seven. However, the lady I bought these vases from off Craigslist only had six. I will keep looking around to see if I can find some other cheap vases, or we may have to up the amount of crystal trees we use (ouch on my budget!). Please disregard the wrinkled tablecloth! They have been stuck in a box for months now. We will be alternating plain black tablecloths (as seen here) with black damask overlays. Do you ladies think the damask overlays should go under this centerpiece, or under the crystal trees? FH still needs to build a black box go go around the base as in the inspiration pic, and I need to get some large floating candles for the top of the vase, but so far I'm rather liking it! I originally wanted to go with black floating candles as in the inspiration pic, but because we now have white calla lilies rather than the darker ones shown here, do you think we should go with a white floating candle, or stick with the original plan of black? What flowers do you think would look best in the base? I am not sure what we will be using to anchor the flowers. I am using rocks in this mock-up but that may change later. The vases will be filled with water, and we will play around with some floralyte at the base of the vase to give it a bit more light. I would love some feedback, so thanks for all your comments! :D |
