This is a simple project that pretty much anyone can do, without having to send hundreds of dollars on.
I went to google.maps.com zoomed till I was at the level of detail I wanted. I used 'print screen' to create an image of what I was looking at. I opened that up in Adobe Illustrator (better for vector lines) and drew lines to create the map. You just use different thickness for major roads or smaller roads. I went a little further to actually make the interstate route symbols match my design. This part takes a little more patience, but I have experience doing this in college. I used dots as major cities, that my guest will know and recognize, and a star to indicate the wedding site.
We put this on our website already and we ill have one in the invitations as well. That will just mean printing it on whatever material I decide on, vellum, or cardstock (I'm not sure yet).
There are websites and companies out there that can do this for you, but they charge insane prices, all this took me so far was a couple hours of my time. Eventually some ink and paper.
An easy DIY project

Another map I made was of the venue itself. All I did was edit the map that the state park gave me, so that I can direct my guest to the actual wedding site and reception site. Again I used Illustrator and just put in the amount of detail I thought was helpful. The easiest thing to do is use black and white for all the background information and use your accent color(s) for the information you are trying to convey.
