Wedding Dress
Dress of my dreams
I was browsing through a bridal magazine the other day and I found the dress of my dreams. It's a Maggie Sottero...and the back is just gorgeous. I hadn't really thought too much about dresses yet as it's still very early, but I can't wait to try this dress on. Hopefully it'll look as gorgeous on me as it does in the picture. What do you think? Too much

Family Issues
Need advise on a difficult situation.
I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do about my "father" situation for my wedding. Here's a shortened version of the story:
I lived with my real parents until I was about ten. Some things happened, and my sister and her husband were given full custody of me. I lived with them from about 10 until I graduated High School and moved out on my own. I was still very close to my mother, but my father and I did not talk for 8 years. He is back in my life now, and is actually paying for the wedding. My sister and brother-in-law raised me as their own from day one-- no questions asked, and I really want to incorporate them into my wedding without stepping on any toes. I just don't know how to do it. I've read a little on "step-father" dances and I will definitely do this, I just don't know if it's too little. It's a very difficult situation and any advise would be extremely helpful. Thank You in advance! |

Wedding Decoration
Changing my color scheme
As soon as my FH and I became engaged, we BOTH said our wedding colors will be orange and red (with silver). We loves these colors, especially together. The more I think about it, though, the more I want to change the scheme to gray and orange. I love this combination -- in fact, these are the colors of my living room! The wedding is not until Spring 2010, and we haven't bought anything yet -- so it's definitely not too late to change. I've included inspiration boards for both color schemes.. what do you think??
(The red and orange one I created on bridalcanvas.com, the gray and orange one I got from the web) UPDATE: The more I look at the inspiration boards, the more I love the red and orange. I really do love the gray/orange combo -- but I think the scheme we originally chose is perfect for us! |

Favors
PHOTOBOOTH!
I found a company that close to my hometown that rents out photo-booths for events! I've known for a very long time that this is what I wanted to do for favors, and I'm ecstatic that I will have the opportunity! The only thing that I'm worried about is the fact that we will be getting married in the great outdoors, and I just hope we will find a place to put it.
Speaking of which, I cannot wait for spring so that we can go out and find our wedding venue. I'm getting restless! |

Married name VS Maiden name
OK -- so do you favor your married (or soon to be married) name over your maiden name? Why?
And if you have decided to keep your last name, why? My given name is Kerri Colby. I constantly hear how well my name "flows" -- although I've always hated the double "kuh" and "ee" sounds. I am proud to carry the name, though. My married name will be Kerri Scull. It may not flow as well, but it's a very unique last name that people definitely notice. I feel honored that one day I will be able to call myself a Scull. Overall, I definitely prefer what will be my new last name! How about you? |

Dress your wedding contest, David's Bridal!
OK. So I entered into a contest to win $5,000 through David's Bridal. If you are a member on their website, you'll already know that they have a "Dress Your Wedding" tool. There is a contest that a website called Brickfish.com is hosting -- people vote for the best, and the winner receives the $5k prize. I encourage you to both enter and vote! Your support is greatly appreciated! This would SERIOUSLY help my budget.
So here's my idea for the wedding party... Of course I will be wearing all white (Actually most likely ivory), and my FH will be wearing all black -- suit, shirt and tie. This way both of us will stand out, and he will not look like a groomsman. Our wedding colors are red and orange, with accents of silver. We have 3 attendants each. The plan right now is to have two bridesmaids in red, one in orange (probably with some sort of silver brooch). The groomsmen will be wearing black suits-- two with red shirts, one with orange. Although the picture shows the men in tux's, they will actually be suits -- I just think they look better! I think everyone will look great, and I can't wait to see how they all pull together! |

Wedding Cake
Making my own wedding cake.
Hello, my name is Kerri and I'm definitely a DIY bride! I'm doing everything myself -- the flowers, sewing the linens and even my cake! My soon to be Mother-in-law will be assisting me with baking the cake, and my fiance will be doing most of the decorating himself (He's VERY artistic).
Okay, well what I want to know ... Have any of you made or plan on making your own cake? And if so, will you be using rolled fondant? I have a recipe for fondant that we plan on trying this upcoming weekend, but I was wondering if any of you have a good recipe that we can also try. I would like to have a few different options in case the recipe we have doesn't work out. I'm not worried about it yet, since we have so much time until the wedding (5/15/10) but I would like to get a head start on these things, and know EXACTLY what we will be doing. Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank You! |
