On Christmas Eve Derrick and I spent the night at his mom's house along with his brothers, sister, brother in law, niece and nephews. We headed for bed a little after midnight. Around 7AM Christmas morning, we heard some of his family members knocking on doors, checking to see if everyone was getting up so we could open presents together. As I was getting out of bed he rushed to the door and told me to stay there while he went to check something. I sat on the side of the bed curious as to what he had to check on. When he came back to the room he got on one knee while he held a small box in his hand. He told me that he wanted me to always remember this day and asked me if I would become his wife. He was so nervous. Of course I said yes! He put the ring on my finger and we held each other for a while telling each other how much we loved one another. We have been together almost six years ans we've had a lot of ups and downs. It's been difficult because we are both students and have had to deal with job layoffs. We always get through it together though. He had planned a big surprise proposal that fell through a few weeks ago. This proposal might not have went as he had planned but it could not have been any more perfect. We are officially engaged!
