Definately start looking at the 1 year mark or sooner. I booked mine 14 months prior to our wedding! It's better that way, less stress, because they normally havne't booked yet.
as far ahead as possible! we got lucky and booked ours wth 6 months to go (short engagement) bu usually closer to a year is needed.
The sooner, the better since dates fill up fast. :) Plus it's a nice thing to get off your shoulders.
I started looking over 1 year in advance and my first choice had already been booked by 1 month ahead of me! I would definitely look early to avoid disappointment.
Since you are from wpg I will tell you of two amazing photographers. (they are usually at the wedding show in Jan) but I wouldn't wait to book them.

Normally i would say 9-12 months in advance for a saturday wedding in Winnipeg (& area). I'm planning a sunday wedding, and as of a month ago, pretty much all the higher-end photographers were open most Sundays. Monday weddings wont book up very quickly, but start your research early. It took me about 2 months to decide on one! (of course Im not very decisive either)
