Wedding Hit List
Not to brag, but our wedding was AWESOME!
We have had so many wonderful compliments from our big day so I thought I would pulled together a 'hit list' of what our guest keep mentioning.
1. Hired a DJ with and MC: It really made sense with our venue to have both. It was nice to have someone to keep things organized and be able to walk around the room to see what was happening, to find us if needed, etc. It also freed us up to be more social and let the MC handle the entertainment. 2. Wedding Party Introductions: Our MC helped us to create a fun intros for our group and set it to music. HILARIOUS! 3. Shoelywed Game: Cards were placed on each table and our MC gave instructions to white questions that could be answered by answering "Andy" or "Audrey." We each took off our shoes and sat back to back with a shoe from one another in the opposite hand with the theme to the newlywed game playing. If I thought the answer was "Audrey," I would hold up my shoe, etc. These questions were something like, "Who is more likely to make the first move," "Who is more romantic," "Who is the most likely to get a speeding ticket," etc. It turned out really cute and got people in a fun social mood. 4. Bouquet and Garter Toss: We kept things light, less formal and kept the dance music going. Just did it all in the middle of the dance floor. 5. Father/Daughter Dance and First Dance: The hubby and I took dance lessons to do a foxtrot...we totally messed up but no one knew because we were having so much fun. He got the dip right! My dad and I have been dancing swing for years so we kept things fun by swing dancing to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". 6. Photobooth: We did not plan for this. We had a last minute offer from the owner of the booth to use it so he wouldn't have to move it from the venue. We got it for about 80% off. It was really fun and we got some great photos but I still think these are generally way overpriced. 7. Videographer: Another last minute deal. Seems that in this economy a lot of people are cutting the "extras" (I know we were!). We got an offer for 60 percent off the original cost because the owner said his videographer just wasn't able to get work. We haven't seen it yet, but we think it will be a nice thing to have years from now. 8. Seasonal Flowers: I gave my florist a pictures of what I generally wanted but left it up to her to determine on the day what would look best. It was an unusual flower season and I think leaving it up to her to find whatever looked best of that day really helped the quality of all the flowers (and kept the costs down too). SO many people have complimented our arrangements and I LOVED my bouquet. 9. Hair and Makeup: It's expensive but if you can do it for at least yourself and your moms, do it! We had a woman come up to the house and had her for all my girls and my mom and mother in law. We had a blast just hanging out all day and being girly. 10. Music: Left a lot of it up to the DJ/MC. We only had a few songs on 'do not play list,' (Another One Bites the Dust and Baby Got Back). If people were dancing, keep the party going! He did awesome and everyone had a great time! 11. Circle of Love Last Dance: Sounds cheesy but it can be done right. The MC asked everyone to make a circle around the hubby and I during the last few moments of the dance. It was really special to see so many of our loved ones around us (*tear :-) |

I'm a MRS!
It's official! We're MARRIED!!!! Everything went lovely. We actually managed to have our ceremony outside, despite a freak cold front. We had a week of beautiful sunny weather in the 70s and then the day we get married, it drops to below 50 degrees and rain. Eeeekk! It went right up to the start time and the clouds parted, the sun came out and we managed to keep the ceremony outside. Good thing it was quick because it was a bit chilly. A few non pro pictures posted. Did I mention how much I LOVED my bouquet!?!

BM Gifting---DIY Style!
So I am making my bridesmaids these adorable clutch purses. I haven't picked out the fabric yet, but I'm thinking a cute pattern in raw silk. I have a new sewing machine and this seemed like a lovely and manageable first project. Updates to come!

1st Dance....Lesson 1
My dad had a rule for both me and my brother: we both had to know how to dance. This meant swing, fox trot, two step, etc. etc. My brother and I grew up dancing together in talent shows and it has really come in handy as adults! My dad and I are doing a swing dance for our father daughter dance and now the fiance wants to do a partner dance. One problem, the fiance doesn't know how to dance.
So he signed us up for dance lessons. Yes, he is THAT wonderful and I am a horrible fiance for even hesitating but I am petrified that we are going to make fools out of ourselves. The fiance isn't exactly twinkle toes and it's only a month before our wedding. Are we going to look too stiff? Is he going to be able to lead? Are we going to bore our guests? I think this is my first test as a wife. I guess I just have to be supportive and have fun. It's only 3 minutes, 11 seconds.... |

Kitchen Bridal Shower
My wonderful bridesmaids had a kitchen themed wedding shower this weekend. The invitations were adorable and the dinner was fabulous! My friend who hosted is quite the 'Martha' when it comes to these sorts of things. She served a three course dinner, with 'snap container salad' (served in a snap container, of course, to go with the kitchen gadget theme), a cast iron chicken (seriously, she had 14 mini cast irons!) and a cutting board dessert sampler. She had a menu card and adorable place setting for everyone, and of course, cute fun little games. We had a great time. I am so lucky to have these wonderful women in my life. As I mentioned in my previous post today, it was a rough week, but these ladies helped me through.

Fabric Kissing Balls - How to
Materials:
styrofoam ball metal pins (dressmaker pins) about 1 yd of fabric per ball I found cute poly-duponi 'silk' fabric on clearance. The fabric needs to be thick enough to form stiff petals. Cut fabric into strips and then into 2" circles. Folded the circles in half and then folded half circle in half again to form 'petal'. Stick pin into point of 1/4 circle and stick into ball. Repeat....A LOT! I used about 18" of ivory ribbon pined in a loop at the top of the ball. And viola! Tips: It doesn't matter what your pins look like. They do not show. Buy the cheapest you can find. Oh, and don't worry about making the circles perfect. It really doesn't matter once they are folded into the petals. |

Fabric Kissing Balls
I had some scrap fabric from our card box and decided to try and make kissing balls. What do you think? I picked up some green fabric as well. I would like to hang these on the chairs along the aisle.

Wedding Hair Style
Hair and Makeup Trial
It's been a rough week. I was laid off from my job on Friday. The office let go about 30 people in two days. Totally devastating. Friday afternoon, I had my hair and makeup trial. I'm glad I didn't cancel the appointment as it helped keep my mind off some of the bad stuff going on. This week, I am on the job hunt. Anyone need a technical writer/project manager?

Wedding Reception
Photographers and Florists and Seamstresses, OH MY
It's a busy week. Meeting the DJ today. Meeting with one of my best GFs (and bridesmaid) tomorrow for a happy hour cocktail (ok, that's not wedding, but a much needed break), Wednesday is the florist. Thursday is a dress fitting and my future mother-in-law is coming in for the weekend of wedding fun. Friday is my hair and make-up trial. Friday night we are picking our rehearsal dinner menu and going out to dinner at the restaurant. Saturday is my bridal shower. Sunday is our reception tasting at our wedding venue. Phew! I am going to be wedding-ed out by the end of this week! I have a few work trips coming up in the next month so I guess it is good that I am getting all of this done now.
