Wedding Gift Registry
Across The Border
Hey gals it's been a very long time, and I have plenty to tell you! First off I have a fitting at David's Bridal in Manhattan on the 31st of this month, and i'm super excited! However this is my delima......I'm currently living in Canada (nova Scotia) and he's currently living in Brooklyn and our wedding is in Barbados, our home country. So should we have monatry donations or should we have a bridal registry?

Wedding Cake
Unique .vs. Tradition .vs. Our Style
So it's been a while since my last blog, with money being the root of all evil and a pain in my posterior I've been busy. On a happier note the hubby and I have been enjoying cake hunting and changing out minds everytime we see something close to being the joys of our feast. So here are a few snap shots of our choices!!

Rant...Rage & Grandma
How to say NO to their control
.....This might be really long ladies
I love my grandmother to bits, she's fairly young (60's), but growing being the first and only grand-daughter on my mother's side of the family, being the flower girl comes as a regular job. Now I'm all grown up and having a wedding of my own, they are starting to turn it into a Beckles Family Fiasco!! My grandmother is a pastor, and is extremely old school....I personally can't stand it, other family members usually let her get her way, I on the other hand throw tantrums. We already had huge arguement about me not having my wedding in the church like my mother and aunts did.....i don't want it...... the whole idea of my cousins who did nothing but hurt me walking behind me in my bridal party is terrifying. The best part of all is the people she wants to invite...man oh man! I don't know half of these people and they are not even close to my age. I send my top 5 family fashion critics my fav. wedding gown (shown in earlier blog), and she was the first to respond......."a nice shawl and broach would make you look stunning!" ....no grandma it'll make me look traditional, don't want it!!!!! After a long talk with one other critic, who is more for the modern classic -sexy look- which i adore- she too agrees with grandma.....nooooooooo. I'm starting to tick tick tick tick Yes the boobage can be fixed for the dress, it can be done, but given that it's my wedding and I'm gonna do this only once, how can I *politely* say stop to my controlling grandma |

Wedding Flowers
Tri-floral bouquet
Things are really strating to heat up over in my camp, the two biggest things being my dress (not what grandma's hoping for) and the flowers.
I know what flowers i want for my wedding: white roses, cailla lillies and tiger lillies. Either the tiger or cailla lillies will be red to add color to the arrangement. |

Inspiration Board
Miles Apart: bridges built with love
Our relationship is like the funny story your grandmother would tell you.
Troy and I are both from Barbados (tiny island in the Caribbean), we went secondary school together (The Lodge) and we were the friends that hated each other but secretly liked each other. Everyone but us knew we were gonna end up together but we denied it up to 2006, so for the first 5 years of our 'friendship' we denied the chemistry. He moved to New York with his mom and in 2006 I came to Canada to study at St. F.X. I had some serious adjustment problems, but he was my little cheerleader, telling me everyone is rooting for me and I'll be fine. HUGE COMFORT!!!! in the passing time we grew closer and closer. That Christmas I returned home for the break, and one night guess who showed up at my door saying ' let's go for a drive!'...none other than Troy. That was the start of our whirlwind romance, filled with drama and laughter. In 2007 he got me a vase of white roses and abear for my 21st birthday, please note i was in Canada and he was in New York, he was also a recent graduate of culinary school (yay). That same December while I was working, there was a night wedding and we were making fun of how tidious I was about my perfect wedding day. Around midnight, he proposed to me, via MSN, at first I thought he was not serious and I laughed, then he was all serious and said my full name, I knew he ment business at that point, and he asked me again, and being the non-traditional bride my response was ' What took you so long?' The fantasy stage set in on the both of us, until we realized my grandmother is the person to win over, the rest of the family- a walk in the park but that lady was a long walk over hot coals. It's now 2009 and she knows, they haven't met face to face but she's ok with it......we think All will be seen in December this year, that when we both get to go home after a 2-3 year leave. |

Wedding Dress
Oh The Choices I Have To Make
These are the shapes of dresses i'm looking for. These two are both Mermaid/Trumpet gowns, I am not a fan of 'poofy' dresses, I think they make me shorter than what I really am, plus I don't want the traditional wedding gown. I've been to two bridal fittings and I believe I've found the dress.
Just wondering, what are the dress options for new brides: -yes to the fluff - all about lines and shape? |
