Wedding Cake
Cake Tasting

A couple of hours after my floral consultation was my cake tasting. Just like the floral consultation, I invited along our mothers to join us. This bakery was highly recommended by our caterer, various brides we know, and they have awesome reviews.

When we arrived, we were seated and given huge binders full of cake designs to look at. Then they brought out 4 cake samples on a plate. We sampled a home-made banana cake w/ fudge filling, white cake w/strawberry filling, chocolate cake w/raspberry filling, and a marble cake w/ french cream filling. All were good, but surprisingly my favorite was the banana cake w/fudge filling...which sucks because my fiance is allergic to bananas. My fiance's favorite was the marble cake w/french cream filling, and everyone agreed the next best was the white cake w/strawberry filling. Just as the baker was about to move on to our design I remembered that I didn't get a sample of my favorite cake of all time...RED VELVET!!! So she found a red velvet cupcake in the display and added a cream cheese filling for us to sample. It was the best red velvet i had ever tasted. Now back to the drawing board. I had to have my red velvet, he had to have his marble...so what was left for the top tier? The homemade banana and fudge filling of course! I My fiance isn't a big cake eater, so he was fine with the banana cake since we know it will be a huge hit with our guests.

Now on to the design...all the photos I printed out that I liked were very detailed and modern with some traditional elements...of course my fiance didn't like any of them. Why did I bring him along? lol. So he finally said he like the cake pictured, and I think its nice as well, so thats what we agreed on, although a few months from now I may change my mind. But for now this will be our cake. The ribbon band we may have tiffany blue or leave it blingy and have the draping tiffany blue...still undecided. What do you think? Also I will be substituting the sugar flowers for fresh calla lilies. The cake turned out to be a little over $3.00 a slice, 125-150 guests, +tax...$664. The sugar flowers were extra, so it may be a few bucks cheaper when we substitute fresh flowers.

Did I mention we also get a fresh one-year anniversary cake for free???
