Sparklers and Rose petals
I never liked the idea of bird seed being thrown at you after you leave the church or the risk of buying bubbles that wont work... I went to a wedding once where the couple was leaving the church and the guests were trying to blow bubbles for them but nothing would come out... So I'm opting for the rose petals after we are pronounced husband and wife at the ceremony and then sparklers for night when we leave the reception... What are you ladies doing?

DIY Wedding
Substitutes for a guestbook
I found these ideas while googling options other than a guestbook...
Idea #1: Get a canvas from a local art supply store, and provide guests with paint brushes and different colors of paint when they arrive for your wedding celebration. Have everyone sign the canvas, and afterwards get it framed so that you can display the colorful memento in your home! Idea #2: Purchase a large map (poster size) or photo (or take one and have it blown up) of your wedding location, and have your guests sign it. Then, frame and display it as a reminder of your special day and place! This is an especially good idea for destination weddings. Idea #3: Provide small, pretty pieces of paper or cardstock for your guests to write notes on at some point during the event. Ask for messages of marital advice, thoughts on love, or memories from your wedding celebration. Put the notes in a decorative box or vase to display at home, and pick a few out to read when the mood strikes. Idea #4: This is a variation on an Irish Celtic tradition that I like. Apparently, when couples were married near lakes or other bodies of water, as was often the case, guests would throw a pebble in the water as they left the wedding ceremony and headed for the reception, and they would make a wish for the couple as they cast the stone. In order to turn this custom into a creative take on the guest book, provide decorative stones for your guests to sign. Have them deposit the signed stones into a vase, which you can have filled with water if you want to adhere to the wish-making tradition (be sure to empty the water before you transport the vase!) Idea #5: If there is a Glaze-n-Blaze shop near you, pick out a piece of pottery that you would like to have decorated by your guests. Have them sign it with different colored glazes, and return the piece to have it fired after your wedding! If you choose wisely, you could end up with a piece that is both memorable and useful. On the other hand, you may wish to choose an ornamental plate or something else that is less likely to be damaged or broken with consistent use. Idea #6: The Polaroid Album guest book is one of my favorite ideas, and it is one of the simplest to create! Purchase or create an album or scrapbook with decorated pages, and provide a Polaroid camera (and photographer!) to snap photos of your wedding guests as they arrive. Have your guest book attendant glue the photos to the pages of the album, and have guests sign on their page with a colorful pen. Have fun flipping through the pages; years down the road when the hairstyles and outfits are out of style, this album will be sure to take you back in time! *** aimee114 has a cute post about a DIY memo board that I'm probably going to use instead of a guestbook... Thanks for the idea Aimme : ) |

fuchsia votive candle holders
I received my fuchsia votive candle holders last week from www.cudge.net... They are the perfect color! And a great price... A case of 72 for $36.88. I'm so excited about these! Now I just need to find orange ones. Anyone know where I can find orange votive holders for a good price?

Great find!!!!
I'm so excited about these. My mom found these at an Essex Retail Outlet for $7.00 for a set of three! They are beautiful... We bought four sets. I'm going to use these as one of our centerpieces. I'm going to have three different designs. I can't decide if I want to use the bigger candle that just sits in there, or a floating candle... If I use the bigger candle I'm hoping to find some in pink : ) Which one do you ladies think? The second picture is something I found at Hobby Lobby... They were 50% off and I couldn't resist! We're going to hang them from the ceiling with candles in them. I love it! We got four of them.

Paper Fans
I had planned on doing our programs in the shape of a fan. Our wedding will be outside and I thought the idea was so cute. But after doing a few, that DIY project was waaaay too much. So I found these fans online and they are such a good substitute! We will just do our porgrams on one sheet of paper and then have these as well. You can get them monogramed on the side but it's $1 extra per fan. So I'm probably going to create a tag of some sort with our monogram to tie on the end. For anyone who's interested, the website is www.asianideas.com. What do you guys think?

Catering
price shock!!!
Fellow brides I am in need of some advice... I have spoken with two different caterers about our reception food and both their prices were from $2,500-3,500!!! Just for hors d'oeuvres!!! This just seems outrageous for the type of finger food we want. My mom and I were going to do our own food, but our venue requires the food to be supplied from an approved caterer. We are from Kentucky and I know that prices vary depending on where you live. But what are you brides spending on food?

sidewalk chalk!
This is such a cute idea! I'm going to use this idea outside our venue. There is a brick sidewalk from the parking structure to the door at our venue. How cute would this be!?

Isle Decor
I was so disappointed about not being able to use all the decorations we had bought for the isle when I was having a backyard wedding when we had to switch our venue... But then I ran across this idea and I can't believe I hadn't thought about it! I will still use the sheppard's hooks but I'll just have to cement them in buckets! I'm so excited now :)

Bridesmaids
Allure Dresses
I finally decided on a dress for my bridesmaids! They are designed by Allure Bridal. The picture shows them in teal but we ordered them in hot pink. We found them at Bridal Wearhouse and they were within our budget too! They were exactly what I was looking for for my outdoor wedding! Now I have to decide what color shoes... Any suggestions?

Honeymoon
Possibilities...
My fiance and I have never really planned a vacation on our own before (besides a couple spring break trips to Panama City). So we are kind of nervous about booking our first big vacation. Our two top choices right now are Cancun or a cruise. Both of those seem to be within our budget... Do any of you brides have any experiences with either of these? Any recommendations on hotels or cruise lines?
