I am starting tomorrow! This is less of a diet and more of a change of eating habits. I've done a similar "diet" before for over 6 months and it works. This plan requires a lot of discipline. The first week or two will be tough but after that a habit will have formed and you won't know how else to eat other than this!
The Paleo Diet is sometimes referred to as the caveman diet b/c of the complete elimination of anything processed! That's right, nothing that comes out of a box or bag or can is allowed. I will break down the foods below:
Allowed:
-Lean Meat (all that you want): beef, lean pork, lamb, chicken breast, turkey breast, any fish, any seafood, eggs.
-All veggies, except potatoes, corn, beans, and peas.
-Any Fruit is acceptable!
-Nuts and Seeds are great (but no peanuts!)
-Any spices, herbs, tomato paste, chkn broth, salsa, coconut milk, olive oils, avocado oil.
Not Allowed:
-No sugar and NO artifical Sugar (no splenda, etc)
-No junk food (cake, chocolate, etc)
-No grains (not even wheat, no corn, pasta, bread, cereal)...I will eat steel cut oatmeal although it states not to but can't have instant stuff.
-No beans (peanuts, soybeans, soy, tofu) etc. I will have soymilk in my latte in the a.m.
-No dairy (milk, butter, cheese, cream)
-No processed or man made stuff. If you don't make it, you can't eat it.
It's extreme!! I know!!! But it detoxes me and the weight drops quickly and the energy goes up! I eat every 2 hours...small "normal" portions.
**Note: these are MY food choices that work for me. If you want to follow the diet with no cheats (like my protein powder and oatmeal) then please refer to paleo diet websites for menus.**
Sample breakfast (for me):
-Protein Shake: blend protein powder, water, almond butter, 1 banana, and steel cut oatmeal. Filling and tastes amazing actually!
-Egg whites or whole eggs
-veggie omelet w/ a slice of turkey
-Steel Cut Oatmeal (no sugar)
-fruit and almond butter parfait
Sample Snack (for me) 2 hours later:
-Celery stick with almond butter
-apples with almond butter
-fruit (grapes, apples, mangos, etc etc)
-protein shake
-veggie sticks
-Raw Nuts (anything except peanuts)...thank you Don (I didn't mean raosted)
-small fruit salad
Sample Lunch 2 hours later:
- Chicken Salad with olive oil and Vinegar (any veggies I want)
-Any fish dish with veggies (salmon, tilapia, tuna)
-Chicken parm with grilled breast and tomato sauce (no cheese)
-beef stew
-turkey breast with green beans
-the point is to get protein and veggies in.
Sample Snack 2 hours later:
same as above snacks (different choice)...get creative.
Sample Dinner (when I get home):
-Lean Steak and veggies
-Vegetable lasagna (just no pasta)
-Chicken stir fry
-Any chicken dish (lemon and herbs, jerk chicken, garlic chicken etc)
- Pot roast
-Pork tenderloin w/ brussel sprouts (my favorite veggie!)
-Stuffed Peppers with ground lean turkey and tomato paste

Sample last snack 2 hours or an hour later:
-Sugar free jello (this is a cheat!)
-something from above snacks
-blueberries
-Freeze watermelon juice or any other fresh juice and eat as popsicle
Wish me luck and good luck to you if you are trying to shed some weight and/or get healthy :)
This is simply my particular diet that I know works for me realistically :)
Thanks kindly for the note! Oh, and will you be my trainer and life coach? I will need you to get my butt in line when I get weak and want to add "snickers bar" to the snack list! And please do check back and let me have it when my next blog says "I hate this diet, please help!" ...much love
I also would suggest you do eat some whole grains every once in a while. They are good for you. Just don't eat a lot. And your brain needs carbs!
@denearae- def more fun to eat unhealthy :) I did something similar to this when I trained for my marathon and did it for 6 months and could have kept it going but I got lazy. Basically, it's about eating fresh foods only so it is a lifestyle change for sure! You have to pass up lots of stuff in the aisles but I was just telling my friend who is doing it too, that it's amazing how many things are pre-packaged and unhealthy in the stores!
@ brilliantbrunette, I agree, I think some long cooking oatmeal (or a soybean here and there) is ok for me and it is so personal...different things work for different people.
I don't calorie count and I probably should. I eat super clean and I eat until I'm full. And I don't eat if I'm not hungry (which I ALWAYS did before). I ate for fun :) but b/c everything has to be planned out and it's not a microwave solution, you will find that you begin to eat when you're hungry (which is the way it should be). A lot of people ask if I feel tired casue I'm not eating carbs but you get your carbs from fruits and veggies so you have to eat enough veggies and I have more energy than ever by cutting out bread and pasta and rice. Also, my heart used to palpitate badly when I ate simple carbs (especially rice and bread) and that has cleared up completetly since this diet (not to mention the improved skin!).
Tomato paste might be a "cheat item" yes. lol. I now find myslef thinking "shoot I just cheated with peas or a soybean or corn." lol!!! The only thing I do eat is tomato paste & tuna fish in water that comes in a package. I eat them rarely, but I do "cheat" with these. :) I think overall, you have to create a lifestyle that will work for you and that you can stick to. It may not be called paleo and it may incorporate most of the paleo elements with a few changes, but overall, if you stick to this for the most part....you WILL lose weight. There is no way that you won't. Let me know if you have any other questions. There are a couple of great sites for info/recipes:

I can also send you a sample day (for me) if you shoot me your email.
I ate 3-4 meals a day and snacked as much as I wanted on fruits, veggies, almond butter and almonds :) I know portions control is probably an important thing, but honestly I was eating so clean and strict that I had a bowl full of berries EVERYDAY and that didn't cause me to gain weight. Now I'm sure some doc out there is squirming cause there must be some type of blood sugar thing that is all out of whack by eating like this but I'm healthy :)
Also, take a multi-vitamin. This diet is strict so there are some essential stuff you will miss out on so do take a vitamin.
It's never a good idea to eat one large meal at night as your metabolism will be out of whack. As with any diet, it's good to eat 6-8 times a day (meals and snacks) and just eat smaller portions. I will send you my typical day in an email....
I'm going to do a modified version as I still think we humans need grains! lol :)
