Nothing too interesting here. DJ is booked (thank God)! We decided to fly DJ Marquis out from Detroit to DJ our wedding. FH is in the industry and wasn't impressed by the DJ's we looked at out here. He knows and respects Marquis's work, so here we are.
don't ask...
sweetlatina- thank you darlin. I love getting things off the plate!
Tashasita- I'm glad you understand matt. ha! love you girl :) you're getting married soooonnnn!!! woo-hoo!!
But I def get it, esp if he's in the industry!! That'd be like someone trying to sell Mark a low quality computer or communication system when he's used to military grade lol! What does Matt do?
Although I may be naive but I am totally surprised you couldn't find a fabulous DJ out there. You would think LA would be abundant in all things entertainment!!
tasha- Matt does lots of things :) lol! He has always worked in the nightlife industry. He owns a nightlife consulting company (thebarmechanics.com), he bartends as well, and he is an actor/model (trying to break onto the screen) :) I do agree that the DJ makes or breaks an event so I didn't argue with him on this one. And YES there are incredilble dj's out here, but my issue was someone that was incredible and could play or at least "get" arabic music...that was a challenge. Detroit has huge arabic poplulation so we were comfy with him since he knows the vibe (even though he's not arabic at all!.
Tamiaandaustin- What we looked for was someone that could mc the event (very minimal...I don't like cheesy dj's) without being corny, could mix well (some dj's may stop a song and start another (killing the party), could read a crowd (I don't want to give the dj a list of songs to play...he's a dj...I think he should play the [type] of music we want and mix it so that the crowd is having a great time but should have enough experience to know what songs are hot, appropriate, etc. The mixing part was really important to FH. He wanted someone who could mix smoothly (not sure if that's dj lingo) but basically not sound like crap as he transitions between songs. Lastly, we are looking for a club type atmosphere not a sleepy wedding so we wanted someone that didn't only play weddings but played other events as well. I would also look at his database of songs...if he's willing to get the songs you want, etc. That's my humble opinion. :)
And dang, Matt really does do lots of things lol.
