you must admit the best part is that night getting compy and cozy in your bed opening that card box and being in money heaven.......I KNOW I WAS... We collected 785 dollars in cash and 590 in checks.....
we got a new freezer, new kitchen items, paid some bills and had a much better honeymoon, we also got a new silverware set , picture frames, a new shower head, plates bowls and cups......My family and friends were very genourous to us.....
SO how much did you get?
We made out with about $550. That includes gift cards.
We also got about $100 in gifts sent to us. :)
I wouldn't even think of going to a wedding without bringing SOMETHING with me.. even if it's just an empty card with a nice sentiment hand-written inside.
first of it is proper wedding etiquette to at least give the bride and the groom money to cover the dinner plate, usually people give $25-50 a plate.
second you have to realize who your guest will be and how much they can afford. we had a few friends who didnt come(but rsvp-ed) bc they didnt have money to give us.... we went into this knowing that some of our guest could not afford to give us anything... we just wanted them there to share the moment with us.
i do hate when people ask how much you got/didnt get. like someone said its not about the money. its about the joy the two people share and you want your family and friends to come.
if your planning a wedding based on how much you get back, word of advice you will be in more debt then you think!
We had about $3500 in cash/checks as gifts and also dollar dance but then with things we returned b/c of getting multiples we had almost $900 to Target.
We had 13 people not show and then another 10 people not give us even a card.
Most of the gifts we got where cash and gift cards as I had two showers and got most of registry gifts :)
In the end we got $7200 is cash and cheques, and $450 in gift cards.
Much more then we where expecting and it allowed us to buy our new bedroom suite, pay off a bill and we are now going to finish two of our bathrooms with the remaining funds :)
