Our Cake!!!
Our Cake!!!

Ask a Question
How much is your cake?

Ok, I have the cake I want replicated.
Minus a few of these tiers in this picture.

We went to the cake tasting this past weekend, w/ my mother!
It can be made just like this w/o any problems, our 1st and 3rd tier will be Triple Bavarian Chocolate. Our 2nd tier will be ?? I forget - lol. all covered with sweet fondue.

In any case, our cake will be a cake w/o really tasting too much just like a cake. We both like sweets but I was dying to have an ice cream cake but people said I was crazy and he wanted something that didnt taste like a cake. So the Bavarian is right up our alley. We loved it.

Our price quote was $670 for 3 tiers for up to 100 pieces (+).
Is this too much, should we keep TASTING?!?

Mine was $300 for 100 people.  Usually cake should run $2.50-$4.00 per slice.  If you have fondant vs buttercream, its going to cost a lot more.  Good luck!

I havent done any cake tasting myself, but based off of 100 pieces, that comes to $6.70 a slice. I thought the average was $4 or $5 perhaps I am wrong.  I would definitely try other places to get an average price.  Your cake that you have now sounds yummy!

We are getting a 3 tier cake along with a sheet cake. It is going to serve 140..we wanted extra...We got buttercream frosting (they can make it to look like fondant and it taste better) with a euopean torte inside. It's layers of choclate and liquor. Ours was $595 including $50 for delievery.
I think I would keep looking if I were you.

Our cakes (bride and groom together) came to like $500 for 130 servings. That includes the chocolate covered strawberries on his, and the fondant on mine. If We would have left all of that out, it would have run us about 400. So we paid about 4.50 per slice.

It really depends.  I definitely haven't seen anything where I live under $3/slice.   I've seen it about $3.50/slice then if you go with fondant, where I live, it runs about $4/slice....furthermore, it adds up depending on the details of the cake.  For example if you want fondant roses, swags, bows....at least that's how it works where I live.

That may be a little pricey. It depends on the company.

I'll be frank. We went to one company who wanted about $650+ for a three tier cake. But in honesty, their work didn't impress me. The cake didn't knock me out of my seat, they didn't have any fabulous, unique flavors, and they actualyl didn't even allow us to PICK the flavors we tried. They sampled their "most popular" flavors... and two of them I couldn't even try because they had coconut [which I'm allergic to!]

So we went to another company that was about the same. $600+, didn't let us pick the samples... just gave us what they had in the shop that day. Didn't really wow me.

Finally, I gave in to my husband's pressure to seek out a baker he was friends with, that I didn't want to pick simply because he was a friend. We gave him a shot, though. He actually MADE a small tier for us in the flavors we wanted (and recommended a flavor as well), and it tasted better than EITHER of the other companies. For a 6", 8" and 10", it was $280. And it was beautiful to boot.

If you're fine with paying that much for your cake, then go for it. I personally would try a few more places. There is no harm in tasting. If at the end of it you are still floored by the first company, then go with them.

I own a cake decorating business, and our prices are anywhere from $3.00 to $5.00 per serving, ( for wedding cakes) and it is based on the complexity of the design. For that cake I would charge $3.50 per serving...so it would be $350.00 + set up and delivery. I live in Ottawa, Canada though, so the costs where you live may be way more :)

Our wedding cake was 4 tiers and then we had a grooms cake as well. Both cakes fed about 220 people and we had a different flavor for each tier. It was $589 for both cakes and no charge for delivery if it was within so many miles. And they were the best tasting cakes I have ever had

That sounds like alot.  But, if its what you want and can swing it, go for it!  I live in MD and found my dream cake with Occasional Cakes.  It was $700 feeding 175 but it was buttercream (don't like fondant) with 4 squared layers.  BUT, the owner was difficult to deal with so I'm not going with her.  Too bad though because her cake was FABULOUS!!!

Hey, did you try the cake that Martins provide with the package?  I'm waiting to do that soon.  If it's decent, we may save that money and go with Martins.

I know it all depends on where you live...but that still sounds extremely expensive to me for only 100 servings and only 3 tiers!!  Our cake will be 3 tiers with servings for 150 people for only $327...that includes taxes and delivery!!  But I guess we aren't in a really big city so maybe that's why...and our flavors aren't extremely unique and we chose buttercream.  I would definitely keep shopping around to see what else might be out there...cause I think that price quote sounds a little steep regardless of where you live!!  Good luck and I hope you can find something a little bit cheaper!! ;-)

Our cake is square 3 tiers with buttercream icing, and it's free. One of our groomsmen's mom makes cakes as a hobby, and she's done quite a few baby shower and wedding cakes for our family. She offered to make our cake for us as a gift. $670 sounds pretty pricey for a 3 tier to feed 100. I would shop around a bit, and get a few more quotes.
