Ok, I have the cake I want replicated.
Minus a few of these tiers in this picture.
We went to the cake tasting this past weekend, w/ my mother!
It can be made just like this w/o any problems, our 1st and 3rd tier will be Triple Bavarian Chocolate. Our 2nd tier will be ?? I forget - lol. all covered with sweet fondue.
In any case, our cake will be a cake w/o really tasting too much just like a cake. We both like sweets but I was dying to have an ice cream cake but people said I was crazy and he wanted something that didnt taste like a cake. So the Bavarian is right up our alley. We loved it.
Our price quote was $670 for 3 tiers for up to 100 pieces (+).
Is this too much, should we keep TASTING?!?
I think I would keep looking if I were you.
I'll be frank. We went to one company who wanted about $650+ for a three tier cake. But in honesty, their work didn't impress me. The cake didn't knock me out of my seat, they didn't have any fabulous, unique flavors, and they actualyl didn't even allow us to PICK the flavors we tried. They sampled their "most popular" flavors... and two of them I couldn't even try because they had coconut [which I'm allergic to!]
So we went to another company that was about the same. $600+, didn't let us pick the samples... just gave us what they had in the shop that day. Didn't really wow me.
Finally, I gave in to my husband's pressure to seek out a baker he was friends with, that I didn't want to pick simply because he was a friend. We gave him a shot, though. He actually MADE a small tier for us in the flavors we wanted (and recommended a flavor as well), and it tasted better than EITHER of the other companies. For a 6", 8" and 10", it was $280. And it was beautiful to boot.
If you're fine with paying that much for your cake, then go for it. I personally would try a few more places. There is no harm in tasting. If at the end of it you are still floored by the first company, then go with them.
Hey, did you try the cake that Martins provide with the package? I'm waiting to do that soon. If it's decent, we may save that money and go with Martins.
