So I was on Etsy looking up wedding stuff and came across twirling ribbons to have instead of the traditional rice throwing after the ceremony, and started thinking about what I would do. I dont want to do the traditional rice throwing because it just seems too cliche', not too mention a big mess. I like the ribbon twirling but have seen this many times.
I started researching other ideas I do like the sparklers since were having a sunset wedding I thought sparklers would be nice, but still doesnt seem too unique as I want it to be, and doesnt give me that wow factor. My fiance likes it.
One idea I liked was butterflies, I came across this site that you can buy butterflies for this reason, they ship them to you right before the wedding, one in each box. You give the box to your guest and at the the designated time they open it and release the butterflies. They arent in there very long and of course they have air to breath and you are given butterfly food to leave around the area so they can stay there and live in the new home. I like this especially since my wedding is a garden area. My FH sister thinks its inhumane though to do this though...And my fh thinks people might be freaked out on releasing an insect and may not want to participate.
Another idea I found was releasing balloons. I found this website where you can buy biodegradeable balloons ( safe for the environment and eco system) and everyone releases balloons instead. I love ths idea because its safe for the environment, not messes, has a beautiful effect and I havent seen anyone do it.
I also like the idea of sky lanterns, it lights up the sky so beautifully, but I dont think they are very eco friendly.
My fiance wants to release doves into the air, I like this idea too but it sounds pricey and a little cruel to animals lol ( ya but I want to release butterflies, i know ha ha) they have dove shape balloons that are really nice to release they look real/ we both Do not want bubbles....what do you ladies think? and what are you ladies doing? if any of you ladies are wanting the traditional rice throwing but are afraid of the mess, I read about these flakes you can throw which dissolve once they are wet.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Doutdoor&field-keywords=bio+white+dove+balloons&x=0&y=0
but they get them from this site called www.doveballoons.co.uk
if i find out more info ill definately post and let you know =) ya the sky lanterns are such a beautiful idea, loved tangled too =) mine wedding is during sunset so it might not be dark enough for the lanterns huh? I really loved it but like you mentioned it would be more for a night wedding =(
my wedding is all in doors so i am a little limited, I was looking for something they could throw from the rows as we exit down the aisle.
-they don't allow fireworks in NJ so no sparklers.
-I Xd bubbles because of the stains
-and no rice or birdseeds because of the mess and I dont want it get in my hair, cleavage, etc
so I'm opting for Rose Petals, i'm going to make little paper petal cones, and fill them with petal for guest to toss as we exit.
Also since i'm not having a program for the ceremony i'm going to put a large label with the order of service on the cones
@hashbrown, cool :) i think im leaning more towards the balloon idea too
@ daniellerenee u cant go wrong with bubbles, they r so elegant looking :)
@kittieswed, the rose pedals sounds so lovely and they are easier to clean up than seeds and rice....i like it :)
@uberblondebride, that sucks :( well maybe u too can do the biodegradeable balloon release....u dont throw anything, they dont make a mess, u dont have to clean it up, and they are safe for the environment...or u can do the ribbon wands, where u twirl ribbons like soconfused did, she said they were a hit :)
