Wedding Cake
Cake on a budget
I'm still doing research on cake prices. I want something delicious that won't break the bank. So far King's Hawaiian seems to be the most reasonably priced and they have great cake reviews. Rumor is wedding cakes run under $400 for up to 150 people and that sounds good to me if they also deliver. I've never been there, so I'll have to stop by soon. I'm excited to try their "Paradise" cake (Guava, Passion, and Limeflavored). The other places I'm checking out are Porto's Bakery and Torrance Bakery. I'm only considering places that have been referred. I, like most people, love to eat cake, but have never paid much attention to the different types: sponge, chiffon, etc...
Any insight would be helpul... |

Ask a Question
Pregnant moh
I always envisioned my best friend at my side as I got married. As it turns out, a couple hours after I asked her to be my moh, she told me she was pregnant and due July 1st. I was soo happy for her, but at the same time thoughts of her not being able to help plan/attend my bridal shower, attend my bachelorette party (cruise), be carefree at my side on the most impt day of life started to run through my head. I told her that I want her as my moh, but if at any point she feels like it's too much for her or she's too tired (this will be her first child), then she can tell me up to one month before the wedding and I won't be upset and I will still let her make a speech during the reception. However, the stress is driving me insane. I have no replacement ideas. Everyone else is equal to me and the people that have volunteered to replace her are not that close. (sigh) The other concern is her dress. We would probably have to buy something off the rack since we won't know what size she will be. Any advice???

Bouquet
I can't decide whether to go with all pink/cream roses, add garden roses, mix it up with pink peonies, or bright lilies for texture and a pop of color. I would like to add feathers and maybe a monogram... I need to find more pix. I really like the white lilies and peonies together. Peonies are soo fluffy and I think the feathers would be a great complement. I would probably wrap them from the botton to the base of the flowers with platinum or gray wide ribbon and then use a thinner ribbon in the other color. I need to go to the flower mart to test it out.

The Proposal
Cancun
Enrique and I met in high school. We had one art class together that he had been waiting to take for almost four years, while I was told if I didn't take it, I wouldn't graduate. We went away to college and didn't talk again until almost 10 years later, thanks to myspace. I ran into his picture while searching for an old friend of mine, but to be sure it was him I sent him a message that only he would know the answer to (our art class teacher's name). He responded with the correct answer and we went out as "friends" (even though he showed up with flowers) two weeks later. We had an amazing first date and I ran around the city, work, and family events telling everyone that he was PERFECT. Everyone kept telling me, don't put him on a pedestal because no one is perfect, but I wouldn't believe it. Turns out no one is perfect and I fell pretty hard at the realization. lol! We made our relationship official two weeks after our first date and have been happy ever since.
Enrique proposed at the end of our vacation in Cancun, just before our three year anniversary. He was acting fishy during the trip and kept asking me really serious questions. To tell the truth, I thought he was trying to find a reason to break up with me. On our last day, just hours before checking out, he found me crying on the balcony in total confusion because I had no idea what was going on. He had asked me a few times during our stay if I knew why he had brought me to Cancun and each time I answered, "because you love me" or "because I won't say no to any of your crazy ideas", etc. This time when he asked the question, I let him answer and he then proceeded to tell me how much he loved me and then he got down on one knee in the hotel room and asked if I would marry him. I could see the suspense in his eyes and we were both trembling. I said yes and nodded, then we both cried and hugged each other. He didn't have the ring yet because he wanted to make sure I absolutely loved the ring I was going to wear for the rest of my life. So we flew back home that day and went ring shopping the next day... |

Wedding Cake
The only part of my wedding that I can actually envision is my cake! Is that weird? I've been searching for it online and in magazines everywhere and can't find it! It's frustrating because it's actually a pretty simple cake. I want a 3 tier square cake covered in thickly shredded coconut (or white chocolate shavings) with platinum ribbon wrapped around the base of each tier and bright purple flowers on alternating sides of the front of the cake. We haven't gone cake tasting yet, but I'm thinking of something exotic like guava. If that doesn't work out than Enrique loves banana flavored anything and I love strawberry, so we'll see what we end up with... :)

Wedding Dress
I had to go with my #2 dress because #1 was way over budget and a few people thought that it would be overwhelming for my body type (short and thin). I loved this one, too, so it was okay, but yes I did cry. It's very soft and romantic. I love the lace and the sweetheart neckline. I had to order it in a size 4 because that it their smallest size. I decided not to go with the hallow to hem so I can use the extra lace for my veil and do something special with the bottom of the dress, since that is what I think is lacking right now. Other than that, I can't wait for it to arrive in July!!!

Wedding Rings And Jewelry
I l-o-v-e my ring! Enrique let me choose it because he wanted to see my face when I found the perfect one. I had no idea what I was looking for, but quickly found that my hands were too small for a lot of diamonds or any of the elaborate designs they have out now. They just looked gaudy on me. I've always heard people say (when referring to a dress) that "you'll just know when you put it on" and I never had that with my dress, but I definitely felt it with my ring. We found it in one day and went to visit our families the next day to anounce the news...
I don't have a wedding band yet. I can't decide whether to go with an all platinum band or add the box diamonds across the top. Enrique wants to design his own band. We really need to start looking into that. |
