Great Experience!
Wedding Prep Course

This past weekend FH and I attended a marriage preparation course, it was put on by the Catholic Church but wasn't religion focused.

I just wanted to tell anyone who is curious, or iffy about taking a course that it was a great experience! We had a couple that had been married 20+ yrs lead our group and it was actually really fun. The focus of the weekend was mostly on communication and bringing up issues that you will want to discuss, and seeing if you are on the same page. Not that you have to be on the same page with everything (ie. money, kids, extended family, etc.) but you have to be able to communicate about it and discuss it. So we learned a lot that way.

We got to meet some really cool couples and learned some neat things about each other and ourselves.

So I highly recommend taking a marriage prep course!

Anyone want to add their advice or two cents?

I'm not Catholic, but my FH is.. so we have to take these classes. You've totally put my mind at ease about them!

Ours was the Catholic engaged encounter and it was AMAZING as well. We learned so much even after 3.5 yrs of dating and 2.5 years living together. We have been abstaining since and communicating so much better!

@daniellerenee85 - I'm not Catholic either but FH is, so I was pretty worried about it.  But it was a really good experience, very glad we did it.

@kristybeep - I know eh!  We've been together 5.5 yrs, living together for just a few months but you still learn a lot about each other.  Haven't gotten to the abstaining bit yet.... but communication is good!

I haven't done any courses but have read a couple of 'crash-course' books on early married life and it's amazing how you THINK you know it all, but yet the book/teachers bring out very good points that you are grateful to be reminded of! I think if we start our marriages off with a good foundation and understanding of the relationship we have with the other person than we are waaaaay less likely to experience a divorce.
