This past weekend FH and I attended a marriage preparation course, it was put on by the Catholic Church but wasn't religion focused.
I just wanted to tell anyone who is curious, or iffy about taking a course that it was a great experience! We had a couple that had been married 20+ yrs lead our group and it was actually really fun. The focus of the weekend was mostly on communication and bringing up issues that you will want to discuss, and seeing if you are on the same page. Not that you have to be on the same page with everything (ie. money, kids, extended family, etc.) but you have to be able to communicate about it and discuss it. So we learned a lot that way.
We got to meet some really cool couples and learned some neat things about each other and ourselves.
So I highly recommend taking a marriage prep course!
Anyone want to add their advice or two cents?
@kristybeep - I know eh! We've been together 5.5 yrs, living together for just a few months but you still learn a lot about each other. Haven't gotten to the abstaining bit yet.... but communication is good!
