The Final Countdown is on!!!
Only a few more days today. It has been a whirlwind. I have done so much and have so much to share but I probably won't get around to it until I am back from the honeymoon!

Centerpieces
Cute huh?

It took a long time to figure out what to do with them to be simple but bring color.

I will fill the vases with white sand and put the white branches in the middle.

To Do List
...getting smaller
I still feel like I have a million things to do before the wedding. Here's where I'm at:

- decide on first dance song, father daughter song, mother son song, ALL other reception music - send to DJ

- arrange rehearsal dinner (I think I know where I want it just have to book it) and invite all guests (digital invite already made)

- obtain marriage license

- final alterations for dress

- confirm menu selections with caterer (they're decided because menus are already printed)

- wedding favors - they were ordered online May 10 but I haven't received them yet

- bridesmaid dresses - they're not in yet and may not be until early July - could be a rush if people need alterations

- bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts - ANY UNIQUE IDEAS?

- pack for honeymoon - see if bathing suits still fit, buy lingerie etc

- decide on vows - we are just going to do the repeat and recite but we don't know what we want them to say yet

- discuss with MC the program

- meet with officiant (planned already)

- final haircut

- final wax, facial etc

- speeches/toasts

- seating chart

- final meeting with day-of coordinator to go over timelines

- pay all final deposits, write out cheques for the day-of stuff

- finish centerpieces (waiting on supplies), napkin rings and all other decor

- order/print large engagement photo for guestbook table

- gifts for Moms and Dads

and probably a million more things...

Ask a Question
Ceremony without Ushers?
Hey All,

I am wondering if I can have my ceremony without Ushers?

I have ordered cute little banners to put on the back of the last row of chairs that say "Bride" and "Groom" and people usually know where to sit. I don't care if people are really sitting on the proper side - we have friends that would be torn on which side to sit because they're BOTH of our friends!

It's a garden wedding and will be very short (like 20 mins max). The chairs will be arranged in a semi-circle with an isle down the middle. There will only be 4 rows of chairs total. There will be 2 tables with programs and waterbottles on each side as well.

What are your thoughts? Can I do without ushers?

I only have about 110-120 guests. I also have day-of coordinators who can act as ushers if people really have questions (ie. bathroom, directions, seating).

THE INVITATIONS
One of the first things I started working on were the invitations once we had decided on some of the details.

THEY WERE SO MUCH WORK - I don't know if I would ever do it again.

I went to The Paper Tree in downtown Edmonton for ideas. I had received a 10% off coupon at the Bridal Show. I began by only buying the supplies for 1 invitation so I could try to see if I could even do it. The designing part took a LONG time but I managed to do it. I was going to back the main invite with lime green as well but it was next to impossible to find inexpensive lime green cardstock. Anything I could find was like $1.89 per sheet - ridiculous.

I spent most of the time cutting and gluing by myself but I must give props to my mom, sister and bridesmaid who also each helped me over one weekend. My fiancee also helped by adding the feather at the end!

I started with the precut main invite in a shiny white, added the teal to each side, printed the main invite on a thin shiny white paper and the 3 slide in cards on a thicker cardstock. Two of the three slide in cards are printed on both sides!

In hindsight, I would have had them printed and put together myself. I went through so much ink and wasted so much paper, not to mention replaced the printer altogether after a rant/rave full of swearing and tears.

They turned out great in the end! I have a friend at work who made hers in ONE weekend - maybe a total of 50 man hours. Mine feel like they took 300 man hours!! Oh well, they're done, mailed out and I am receiving a ton of compliments which feels good. I even stamped "handmade with love" on the back so people know I made them!!

Water Bottle Labels
Another tedious and time consuming job of taking off water bottle labels and applying the customized ones. I gave this job to my finance as I was painting the stupid napkin rings.

I must admit they are cute - especially the nutritional information!

We decided to do water bottles as something interesting for the ceremony. Late July is notoriously hot and we hope it definitely will be so we ordered these labels online. They're waterproof so I bought 4 buckets at walmart to be put in tables beside the programs for when people arrive and/or leave. Now we just have to hope it's hot. Otherwise we'll be drinking custom water bottles for years (there are 100 of them!).

Napkin Rings
Well this is possibly one of those bad DIY ideas that I had. I could have rented napkin rings. I could have purchased pre-painted napkin rings. I don't know.

Anyways, I decided after much looking that I didn't want to spend much on napkin rings but I wanted to make a statement with them for color. My table linens are white/grey, the napkins are white, the centerpieces are almost all white with a teal ribbon so I needed some color. Michael's had napkin rings there for ~$1.50 each. Doesn't seem so bad until you purchase 120 of them! It adds up - and just for napkin rings. I found them at an online craft store for ~$0.40 each and then I purchased a quart of paint. Bah this color has been horrible. I've done like 4 coats. It's so tedious but it's getting done.

Honeymoon
BALI, Indonesia
So we decided to "glam" backpack in Bali for our honeymoon. Yes, we're leaving the hot Alberta summer for something just as hot. We had considered doing something small around here and potentially going away in the winter for a hot vacation but thought what the heck, let's just get away! So we're going FAR! We plan to do the Bali island as well as Penida Island and Lombok Island during the 12-13 days that we are there. We don't have much more of a plan than that. We have our flights booked but not even our first nights accommodation. We will book that but then we're going to fly by the seat of our pants. I think we will read the entire Lonely Planet on the plane and discuss. Craig wants to surf lots and I really want to laze around on the beach. We fly into Denpasar and plan to hang around Kuta for a while and eventually rent a jeep and make our way around the entire island. Obviously we will not be staying hostels but you can have a whole beachside bungalow to yourself for $30-50/night. On the southern part of Bali is where you can find the resort-style hotels and we might stay there for a few nights on the last part of our trip!

Any must sees or must dos in Bali??
