I have a ton of other pictures from family and friends but these are some of my favorites from the set we actually paid for. :-) Married life so far has been not all that different to be perfectly honest. I love my husband and getting used to having a new name has been only a minor adjustment. We lived together for two years before actually getting married so other than making a few of my older relative a lot happier, being married hasn't changed us all that much. That being said, our wedding was an absolutely fantastic day and I wouldn't have changed a single thing about it! Good luck to everyone still planning their perfect day (and no, not everything went perfectly as planned, but most of the minor details were either negligible or the actual things that happened were even BETTER than I could have imagined!). Some professional pics - I can't wait!!! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/61622 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/61622 Fri, 15 May 2009 21:21:00 PST Our photographer posted a few of our pics on her blog today! I answered some of the questions directly but since I saw a few of the same ones pop up I thought I'd just make a post with the list. Also- selling stuff! I probably will be selling a few of my damask items (I doubt that I would be able to off load the million pears I've accumulated though :-) Will post exactly what will be on offer as soon as I get it all unpacked! Cupcake Stand: Made it ourselves! I have detailed instructions on a previous post. Our stand held 80 cupcakes and an 8" square top cake. I've had requests to buy this stand, which I'm not opposed to, except that there were small lime frosting spots (we removed the green though) and I have no idea how I would be able to ship it (the base is three feet square!). If you're still interested message me! Feathers: bought these from an ebay seller: jeanyves9280. She's from Quebec and her prices on feathers are AMAZING! If you don't see what you're looking for then just ask, she has more stock than what is listed. Florist: My SIL did all the flowers and pomander balls. I'm still in awe. I can't bring myself to part with the pomanders just yet... Damask Tags/Monogram: I made these up myself using a combination of clip art, photobucket editor, photoshop elements, ms word, and several other photoediting programs (it was a long process of trial and error). The final products were made in Word though and printed by an amazing local printer! As for the rest, I'll update more if I get asked any other details. Still waiting on the pictures (I've been checking my photographer's site every half hour or so...) ;-)

The wedding was fantastic! We had an amazing time and even with all of the little stresses leading up to it - everything came together for a really fabulous day! We've talked about it non-stop since Saturday and even the teeny hiccups that happened were so minimal that absolutely no one noticed but us. That's about all I have to say about that. Our wedding is in ONE WEEK!! ONE!!!! I'm about to completely lose my freakin mind though!! And very little of it is directly related to the wedding! 1. We booked our honeymoon to Cancun. Leaving at the end of May. Not so much. Our travel company has cancelled all Mexico trips until June. We can rebook for a later date (even one week later means a $600 price increase), or go somewhere else (except that our travel company stops flying from our city to anywhere except Mexico and Cuba next week). Price increase means we pay the difference and price decrease, they still keep the full rate. 2. Our vehicle is possessed. We've had it for over 2 years with absolutely no problems. In the last month we've had it into four different shops a total of 9 times. $5000 we hadn't planned on spending a month before our wedding dammit! 3. Our best man is an idiot. His wife left him a month ago and they've been trying to sort out their custody situation, finances, etc. Except that she decided she's moving across the country to hook up with an old boyfriend from high school (over 10 years ago!) and can't decide if she wants her kids or not. Our best man has decided that he wants to bring a new date to the wedding. A chick he hasn't met but has chatted with on the internet. Um, what about your two daughters you idiot?!? Our wedding is out of town- are you going to share a hotel room with your three year old, five year old and some strange woman you met on the net??? Um no. 4. My work has been insane for the last couple of weeks. Its getting into our crazy busy season but we need to finish up all of the projects from last year before we can get any new ones started. Meaning: my boss emails me 6 times a day even though he is aware I'm working on a totally different project for another supervisor now. They both want all of their stuff done, like, yesterday. 5. My fiancee just announced that he has a job offer he got today for a posting 8 hours from where we live. I can't move, I need to stay right where I am for my job. He's considering taking it on a six month term. He tells me this all just went down today!!!! AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHH!!!! I laugh when people ask if I'm stressed about the wedding! The wedding is actually the LEAST stressful thing in my entire life right now! DIY Cupcake Stand - Shiny and damasky goodness! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/57094 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/57094 Mon, 20 Apr 2009 17:00:00 PST Our cupcake stand has been done for awhile now, but I've been so crazy busy that I haven't been able to post pics of any of our projects! Hopefully a slew of posts soon to come... We made the stand out of two sheets of 2" styrofoam (sheets were 24' x 96"). We bought the large sheets at Home Depot for $15 each I think. We cut two pieces for each tier and glued them together to make them four inches high. If you can find 4" styrofoam then you wouldn't need as much but 2 or 3 inches were the only options that day. My wonderful fiancee cut them down to size for me- I had to spend quite awhile calculating the sizes that we'd need for 80 cupcakes and a small top cake tier (the top cake is 8" square). The four layers each measure: 32x32" / 24x24" / 17x17" / 10x10". We had to piece together some sections to make the bottom tier since our sheets were only 24" wide. To attach the extra pieces we used spray glue that is safe for styrofoam (careful with this one!!). I covered all of the tiers using shiny damask wrapping paper that I bought last Christmas on sale (same wrapping paper as the napkin rings). And finally we wrapped 1 1/2" ribbon around each layer to finish them off. I think it came out great!!! (The frog princes were decorations from my shower but they look cute with the stand!) Ask a Question - HELP! - Is an expensive hair trial worth it??? http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/56890 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/56890 Sun, 19 Apr 2009 08:31:00 PST HELP! I basically need a little hand-holding here... I'm getting married out of town. I don't know any hairstylists where I'm getting married. Its a small town so basically I called every stylist in the book and the one that actually answered the phone was the one I booked (another one tried returning my call over a month late to book- um no thanks!). So I've never met this person and have no idea whether she's any good. The hair appointments for both myself and my MOH are $85 each (CAD). Not too bad for a bridal updo I figured. I called to book for a hair trial appointment a few days ahead of the wedding last week. I waited to book until I knew when we would be heading out for sure and what other things had to get taken care of. I asked what the cost was for a trial appointment: $85. I was a bit shocked but I booked anyways because I have no idea if this stylist will be any good and maybe its better to find out a bit earlier than the morning of the wedding!!! And then I can get the style exactly the way I want. But is it worth paying the same amount twice when I'm going to have to take it out before I even leave the salon?!? HELP!!! - Were other people's trials as expensive as the actual day?? Please pat me on the head and tell me it was completely worth it!!! So less than a month. Less than 4 weeks! Since we're leaving early to go out to our wedding site to get stuff ready, just over three weeks actually. Holy CRAP!! I've got a ton of DIY projects that I've been working on that I want to post. Must do that before Easter dinner! Things just seem to be speeding up now- everything is happening so fast. I have showers (mine and others), dance shows, stagette, dance rehearsals, regular work, DIY goodies, confirmation calls, hunting down non-RSVP responders (GRRR!) and a million other things that I can't think of right now. LOVE THEM! I hear that wheatgrass is so cheap, and pretty, and its exactly the right colour... Where the heck would one get large enough sheets of wheatgrass to set up a card table? We're getting married in the next province so I shudder to think of the logistics involved in hauling giant trays of grass with us in the car either, but I'm not sure where to find the stuff to begin with? Trial Centrepiece - Testing, testing, 1-2-3 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/52484 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/52484 Sat, 21 Mar 2009 09:21:00 PST I really wanted a different centrepiece that didn't involve many flowers. I did want to incorporate pears somehow. Getting guaranteed pears in springtime that don't look sick or bruised was going to be tough so when I found these really blingy pears at Michaels over Christmas I was thrilled! I am currently two short, but if I have to buy beads and sequins and bling up two extra then so be it. FI actually put in a lot of centrepiece ideas, some of which have stayed in and others he very grudgingly let go (making damask-y designs in black and white sand would be cool but pretty much impossible to get right - determined after much trial and error). I love the moss and ferns in some woodsy type centrepieces so I whipped up this little number this morning while having my coffee. We want to keep the basic layout- the damask square, clear vase on the base filled with waterbeads and a white LED to make watery light, and the black tray on top covered with... something. I really like the way this trial turned out- I would like the moss to drape a little more around the edges but I didn't want to soak all of my dried moss already, but it will be do-able. I grabbed some random twigs, dried flowers and pods from a giant potpourri bowl in my living room :-) and we have TONS of river rocks around our house (we're rock freaks). Since we're getting married at a hot springs resort in the Rockies, I would maybe like to collect some twigs and leaves from around the area and include those too. I really like this set-up because each centrepiece will be a little different and have some different elements incorporated. Which means that they don't have to be *PERFECT* just pretty and natural on the top. Thoughts? Opinions? As babies, kids, teens, adults, being together, etc. Usually someone in the wedding party or a close friend makes the slide shows and then everyone gets to watch them at the reception. Sometimes they run ridiculously long and get boring, but short and cute/funny ones are always great! My FH got the idea to do a short slide show of us (the typical baby/kid/teen/together) pics but then to do a second section with pictures of all of our guests! Our wedding is only going to be around 70 people so it won't run crazy long. There are a LOT of funny pictures of both of our families and most of our friends. We spent the weekend collecting pictures from our parents of us and our families and I scanned for a few hours last night. More recent pictures of friends and family are available to us via facebook with no one the wiser - BECAUSE ** No one knows we're doing this! I'm going to use these little bouquets in paper cones as aisle decorations with green ribbon to hang the cones. The cones do need to be weighted somehow on the bottom or the flowers fall out - small pebbles should do the trick. I also bought 4 garlands - two for the handrails outside the church and two for small railings in front of the altar. My FH is making me two shepherd's hooks (he's a welder) and my SIL is making bright green pomander balls to hang outside the church entrance as well. My family is nuts. Not in a bad way though this time! For any of you ladies that saw my DIY invites post awhile back, I wanted to put something fun onto the RSVP cards so I wrote the three RSVP options as: 1) Will be there with bells on! 2) Will be there but bells don't go with my outfit 3) Won't be there, wish I could be wearing bells. My family might be taking this too literally! I am actually half expecting people to show up with bells now. Not that I'm really sad about that (actually I think it would be hilarious!) but I just hadn't anticipated my family getting so into it! My great uncle has already swore that he will be finding giant cow bells to bring! Another fun response: My uncle checked off both boxes 1 & 2 but he put an arrow from #2 to my aunt and three arrows from #1 to himself and their two sons. He then proceeded to scratch out and rewrite the first line to read "Will be there with balls!" LMAO! PS- I'm also still soliciting opinions on how to improve my card box (see my last post!) Sucked into the abyss of table linens, chair covers, overlays and napkins and seasonal flowers and family expectations? I'm not necessarily talking about becoming a bridezilla (although that is definitely one path to the dark side). What I mean is more abstract and more to do with expectations from family and your own screwed up little psyche. I hate being conformist, but I'm finding that a lot of the traditional little things that I never considered before have suddenly become all important. I don't even know why. I want to fight to include things (or exclude them) that I don't even really care about. I'm also realizing that some things that I take for granted in "wedding-land" really are completely out of sync with the rest of the real world. While all you ladies here might know that if I'm ordering a garter set then obviously it comes with two- a tosser and a keeper; no one else knows this information. Which makes me wonder just how brainwashed I've become that I assume things need to be included in a wedding when really no one outside of the industry has a clue that such things even exist. Perhaps I'm just having an existentialist dilemma sort of day... Honeymoon - So conflicted! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/50174 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/50174 Fri, 06 Mar 2009 13:16:00 PST I am so conflicted about booking our honeymoon! I think part of the problem is weighing one resort against another and trying to decide what is really the best way to go. We decided that we really want to go for an All Inclusive resort to just relax on a beach and not have anything to worry about. Ok. But where? Since our wedding isn't until May, there aren't a lot of deals advertised right now (we're thinking end of May/beginning of June for honeymoon). But its so hard to tell which resorts are really the best ones. Even if a resort has an amazing rating on Tripadvisor (my travel bible) there's always a few really negative comments too. And then weighing budget against luxury. Yuck. I feel like its our honeymoon, you only get one (second honeymoons are NOT the same), might as well splash out. Gulp. And then pay for it for how long exactly? Sigh. Not so much to lose weight as jsut to tone up and get muscle definition. We haven't been super dedicated to it at all times. Mostly because its 60-90 minutes a day- everyday! And there's been wedding stuff and having a life interfering :-) The diet and nutrition side is where we've definitely been ignoring most of the program. I like food. That's really all there is to it. But, regardless of my dietary sins, I've still been losing weight! 12 pounds since Christmas! I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but go pick up a 10 pound sack of potatoes and then you realize how much extra you're really lugging around! More important than the numbers on the scale though are the way my clothes fit! I've lost 4.25 inches off my waist! Just my waist!! And another inch or so off my hips (always the last place to lose it grrr!). Plus I can actually see definition in my arm muscles- I've never had biceps to flex before! You'd think with everything going the way it is, people would absolutely JUMP on business opportunities. Apparently not. Today I got a call back from a hairdresser that I left a message with regarding my wedding booking. I was just inquiring with a few salons in town and wanted to know if they were available, prices, etc. The thing that was weird about this call was that I left the message WEEKS ago! Um, sorry no. I've booked with someone else. If you can't take the time to return a simple phone call within a reasonable span of time (being generous- say 2 or 3 days) then forgeddaboudit!! Do you really think I would trust my wedding to vendors who can't be bothered to return a call or deliver a quote? Not bloody likely. This isn't the first time that a possible vendor has somehow overlooked returning my messages. A prospective venue actually had the nerve to contact me 4 months after I left several messages (actually I was leaving the messages to ask why they hadn't gotten back to me from a previous communication as they had promised). Current economy and wedding budget dictate that we will not be going out for the big over the top dinner or giving extravagant gifts. Our cheap date plans are: - Breakfast in Bed (I'm making it this time since he cooked last time we had BiB) - Registry shopping (its a freebie shopping trip - no, we're not likely to get it all but its fun to look) - Gift shopping for each other together: Since we're doing a work-out/weight loss plan together we're giving each other small gifts from the fitness store (I need new weights and he needs weight gloves) - Making pizzas and chocolate fondue at home together for dinner - Dipping into our DVD collection for entertainment Mostly we're just planning on spending the day together. Anyone else have any fun, cheap plans for tomorrow? Or is anyone doing anything extravagant? I'd love to live vicariously through your plans! :-) Ask a Question - Boo on Budget Cuts!!! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/46531 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/46531 Thu, 12 Feb 2009 09:18:00 PST My FI's work hours have been cut way back so he's making 1/2 of what he did 6 months ago (at least he still has a job though!) So my FI and I are in the same boat as many other people on here (and everywhere) and we're looking at serious budget cutbacks. Wedding cutbacks included. A lot of our stuff has already been booked (and thus can't be changed) or planned to be low-cost already, but I'm looking at things to trim wherever possible. So, I've cut chair covers for a start. I know it doesn't sound like much, but its hundreds of dollars. I'm a little sad about it since I had to fight long and hard to get my FI to agree to the covers in the first place. I just can't justify the expense and hassle (we'd have to DIY anyways and haul the covers with us to the next province and then somehow get them back on schedule). Does anybody else have a frivolous extra that you've had to let go well into the planning process? Sucks doesn't it? Crap! - Check every detail on necessary postage!! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/46475 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/46475 Wed, 11 Feb 2009 21:55:00 PST We took our invitations into the post office to mail the other day. I weighed the envelopes and invites already and they were well within the 30g limit for a single Canadian stamp. We just HAD to add the wax seals! I'm not sorry we did since it was the most involved that my FI has been with the whole invitation process- I think he was just really excited about melting stuff. Weight-wise the wax seals were fine. They were too thick though! The stamps are about 2-3 mm too thick to fit through the "official postage guide form" and so the postage on every envelope more than doubled. Now instead of one nice stamp in the corner, every envelope requires 4 additional stamps (yes 4!!) in all different colours and sizes to make up the right postage requirement. They look just a little less nice now, but at this point I just want to get them in the mail and gone! Less than 3 months now!! More DIY fun! - Projects with damask paper http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/45787 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/45787 Sun, 08 Feb 2009 09:34:00 PST Its a great DIY weekend around here- check out my invites on my last post! They're great!! At Christmas I picked up a few rolls of flocked damask wrapping paper at Michaels. I've got a couple projects in mind (I know Gratefulbride was asking for wrapping paper suggestions too awhile ago!) but any other suggestions are always welcome! Right now I'm making napkin rings. Yes I really am that sick. **Please note that we are having fewer than 80 guests though! I saved a few cardboard tubes from other wrapping paper at Christmas and I'm using the damask paper to cover them. Our napkins will be black with white table cloths so I'd like to incorporate a little bit of damask at each place setting with the rings. My other plan is to make a cupcake stand and use the damask paper to cover it. I haven't picked up the supplies yet to do that but I'll probably get on that pretty soon too since I only have 3 months left!!! YIKES! DIY Invites - They're nearly all finished! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/45729 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/45729 Sat, 07 Feb 2009 19:25:00 PST Wow this has been a time consuming project! I have the utmost respect to any bride who attempts DIY invitations with more than 100 guests! I only had to make 50 invites and I've been picking away at this project since November! I made the pocketfolds out of construction paper- cheap and nicely textured. The belly bands were one of the most time consuming projects- I cut the white part out of cardstock, glued green ribbon on to it, cut green cardstock squares and glued the little black and white pear photos to the green card and then glued the green card to the white band. Whew! The inside was a lot of fun actually- I had a great time playing with fonts and such and getting the right wording for the invite and response cards. I LOVE the cardstock they're printed on. Its impossible to see in the photos, but the cardstock is actually almost a white metallic with a silver shimmer. I had to get these printed at a print shop (laser needed) but they came out awesome!! Green response envelopes with clear return labels and large black envelopes with silver gel handwritten addresses finished it off. The inside flap of the pocketfold has a small white label with our wedding website address printed on it- all the extra info (maps, hotel booking info, registry) is on our website. The final touch is the white wax seals -that was Nick's contribution. I think he just wanted to melt stuff. It came out great all in all though!! Just... breathe... - 98 days to go... http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/44513 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/pearaholic/milestones/44513 Fri, 30 Jan 2009 22:35:00 PST I've been wretchedly sick all week with a horrible flu so I've been a little out of touch. I checked my blog today and the counter is suddenly under 100 days?!? How the heck did that happen? FI and I sat down and wrote out a list of things to get accomplished this weekend: - Register! - Shop for wedding bands (haven't even looked yet!) - Shop for tux rental (we know where we're likely going) - buy centrepiece vases from IKEA - keep on with the napkin rings project (I still have to post on this but its going well so far!) - get invitations out (for all people that we have addresses for so far) The invitations part is exciting since I just picked up the printed sections from the printer today- they came out even better than I hoped!! I bought ridiculously expensive card stock to print the main text and the response cards on, but it was totally worth it! They're perfect! I'll post pics of the completed invites as soon as I take some! lol! Looks like a busy weekend is coming but hopefully it will calm my wedding nightmares! I actually had a dream about going to a bakery in my wedding dress on the day of the wedding and begging for them to make me a cake in under an hour (yes- bakery is booked!). And then I headed off to the church but couldn't find any flowers (floral designer is booked too!) and then when I got to the church everyone had forgotten about me and I was locked out of the church while the ceremony was going on (don't ask me what the heck they were doing in there without the bride). My FI just about killed himself laughing about this when I told him a few weeks ago but now even he's having nervous "everything won't get done in time" dreams too! HA!!!
