Planning Guides- Are there any worth having?

I was in Chapters last night and looking at the wedding books section (where else?). There are A LOT of books out there with good ideas and such but how to know which ones are worth having? I'm planning a trip to the local library to take a look at what they've got rather than buying a ton of literature, but there are definitely some books that they just don't have. One is the DIY Bride book (from the same diybride.com website). There are some really cute ideas in there, but I don't know if I really want to spend $25 on a book that I might use one or two projects from. The library doesn't carry that book though!

Has anyone here used any of the wedding guide books? Are there any that would be useful beyond one or two small projects? I'm not looking for the full-on planning binder with lists and checklists and timelines, but just books with good suggestions for things to do that can help with budget crunch!

I feel that If I would have gotten a hold of this site before I started planning, it would have done a great job too!  You can ask actual brides to be and even ones who already are married already and it was a great site to give out and take in ideas.  I brought a book just to have one and it was a waste of money and time LOL!  Don't let a little book tell you what to do or not do for "Your" wedding!

I've bought quite a few wedding guide books...and honestly they give you a few ideas here and there, but they're pretty much useless and a waste of money. I've gotten better tips, checklists and ideas from places like www.theknot.com and www.weddingwire.com, all of which are free.

The knot or the wedding channel are great planning sites!

I have mainly gotten most of my ideas from the internet, its your free book but you know you gotta pay the monthly fee for internet service.  I felt like I needed to buy a book too, I got a free organizer from jcpenney by signing up with them for the wedding registry, I bought a little book from micheals b.c it was tiffany blue, it was $5.00 and i am using it to take notes.  All of the info in books is on the internet in one way or another, you gotta do more searches!
