After visiting with a friend over the weekend who recently got married herself, I was pretty bummed ...

Ask a Question
What do you call this style?
Ok, this is not a dress I am considering BUT I am dying to know what you call those draping "sleeves"??
Months ago I saw a GORGEOUS gown with those sleeves but couldnt figure out who the designer was. I would love a gown with that style of sleeves but for the life of me I cant find any! I always assumed this was considered an "off-the-shoulder" neckline but every time I search for off-shoulder dresses I find cap-sleeve styles. FYI- This is a long shot but the gown I saw that I fell in love with was the dress on the cover of The Knot's Guide to Destination Weddings book. I love love love it but unfortunately the photo credits say nothing about the dress designer. I posted the picture but it's tough to see. If anyone has a clue about who the designer might be, PLEASE let me know! Thank you! |

Wedding Flowers
Bright bouquets that I love
I absolutely love bouquets that have a variety of flowers in many bright colors (as long as one of those colors is pink!)
I also find myself attracted to bouquets that are mixes of white and pinks. There are so many beautiful options, I can't believe I'll have to choose just one! |

Wedding Invitation
I think I found the ones I want...
Well I still don't have a location picked out but I've narrowed down the invitations!
We know that we'll be having a destination wedding somewhere tropical so the invitation will definitely feature bright colors (pink of course, maybe orange, blue or green as well): Right now the "Mexico" style invitation is my favorite. FH likes the palm tree style ("Miami") as he is against anything girly...but come on, it's a wedding, it's gonna be girly! The "Peony" style is just gorgeous but peonies aren't really tropical. I also love the "Lily" style Opinions are welcome! FYI the invitations are from www.whiteaisle.com |

Ask a Question
A Travel Agent for a Destination Wedding?
We are definitely planning on having a destination wedding, although have not picked a location yet. My question is, should we hire a travel agent? What exactly will he or she do? Can they get discounts on airfare and hotels for us and our guests?
Any advice on this subject is greatly appreciated, I feel clueless! Thanks! |

The Wedding Location
A Destination Wedding...But Where?
We are still in the very early stages of the planning process; we know we want to have a destination wedding, somewhere warm and tropical so we can get married by the ocean.
We have been gathering information from many locations including Florida, Mexico, and the Caribbean...right now our first choice is Caneel Bay resort in St. John, US Virgin Islands. The place is breathtakingly beautiful, our only reservation is that the food is very expensive ($215 and up per person). However we do plan to have a smaller wedding so it might be doable depending on other costs. There are so many beautiful venues to choose from but as soon as I saw the pictures of Caneel Bay I just felt like this was the one! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will work for our budget! |

Wedding Rings And Jewelry
Here is my beautiful engagement ring!
FH asked me to send him pictures of rings I liked, I sent two very different designs that I loved, and he ended up choosing the one I prefer. I love when random lighting (like mall lighting) makes it extra sparkly. I find myself staring at my hand all the time nowadays! |

The Proposal
It was a dark and stormy night...
We got engaged on a wet, windy, and cold Tuesday night in October! After a fabulous dinner at Philadelphia's Water Works restaurant we walked out to the area that overlooks the river and he put down his umbrella, got down on one knee and popped the question.
It turns out he had gone to visit my dad that same day to show him the ring and ask for my "hand in marriage", haha. It's old-fashioned but very romantic, in my opinion, and it made my mother and father love him even more than they already did! We had been talking about getting engaged for many months but I can honestly say I was shocked!! I should have had a clue, considering he insisted on going out to a very fancy restaurant on a random Tuesday night but as they say, "it'll happen when you least expect it" and I guess that's an appropriate motto for our entire relationship. Here is the (long) story of how we met, if you have some time on your hands: FH and I met when we were 19 and 20; he is an Iowa boy but he was going to college in Philadelphia; I'm a Philly girl but I went to college in Arizona. I was home for the summer and I had just broken up with someone so all I wanted to do was have fun with my best girlfriend! One night she took me to meet some of her guy friends at their house; I didn't know it but I was about to meet my future husband! I'll never forget the first time I saw him: we walked into the house and a big group of guys was sitting around the TV drinking beer; there were quite a few cuties in the group but I don't remember how they looked that night, I just remember my FH sitting there shirtless (!) in navy blue basketball shorts; he looked at me and Wow! I guess you could say it was lust at first sight, lol! He had a perfect body, a perfect face, and that was pretty much what I was looking for at the time! Oh and he turned out to be a perfect gentlemen...eventually! We dated that summer but didn't end up speaking much after I returned to Arizona in the fall. It turned out he and his ex-girlfriend were unofficially back together and that's why had never called me- boy was I mad when I found out about this! But they broke up before winter break, he called me to find out if I would be home, we chatted constantly for about 4 months and that April he finally asked me to be his girlfriend!! I still had 2 years of college left so we managed to make a long-distance relationship work for that time and then I moved back to Philly and finally got to have a normal relationship with my sweetie! Anyway, it just goes to show that you find good things when you least expect them AND that just because a relationship doesnt start out like a fairytale doesnt mean it wont end that way! |
