pixieprincess's Pink wedding

Budget, budget, budget!
Budget, budget, budget!
Budget!
Inexpensive weddings that still look elegant!
The plan is to try and spend no more than £3,000.00 (around $6,000.00 for the US readers) if I can help it on the wedding. If we go any higher we will need to wait so much longer and I don't want to! I've been using the internet to find out how to save money and there are some great ideas. One of them is to be unique, less traditional weddings actually cost less!

Other fab money saving ideas:
- No favours: I know what you're thinking, crazy, but it's not as big a deal in the UK and I don't even think my guests will notice, so bye bye cute little organza bags with sugared almonds!

- No open bar: Once again I know you are probably think I'm nuts but my reasoning is simply that this is mine and my FH's wedding and he doesn't drink at all and I don't drink that much, it seems unfair we should pay out for everyone to get bladdered. They are there to look at me after all and I look good without the beer goggles (lol, I hope!)

- No sit down dinner: You fainted when you read that right? Everyone I tell this to thinks I'm crazy but I have a few ideas lurking inside about what would be better. I have given this some thought and truthfully here is why, my fiance is a bit of a fussy eater, so is my younger sister and several other close family members and I don't want to try and get a caterer to make special exceptions (for an increased cost) when it will cause more problems that it fixes. All the menus I have looked at are so rich and a little over the top for me as well. I'll get back to you on exactly what I'm planning but for now, dinner is off the menu!

- Bridesmaids dresses, paid for: One suggestion is as a gift to me my bridesmaids pay for their own dresses, something they could wear again in the future. I love this idea and I wouldn't necessarily expect them to pay for the whole thing but a contribution would be a lovely gift.

- Ipod and amplifier: One bride said their reception music was her friend's ipod with an amplifier and a selection of music she and her new husband loved! This idea is fantastic. I mentioned it to my fiance and he loved it to, started getting excited about making our own mixes. It's great for us because we are always complaining about the music played by radios and in clubs/bars, this way it would be all on us!

We're doing pretty much the same thing to cut costs (or at least redirect certain parts of our budget). We're not doing favours at all (I never know what to do with them once the wedding is over anyway), we are seriously thinking about a twoonie bar (in Canada, we have a two dollar coin) so that they can cover part of their drinks and keeps them accountable... this way, they don't just put their drink down, forget about it and then wander to the bar to get another drink. I'm borrowing a lot of stuff like vases for centerpieces (two of my friends got married last year and had a bunch of leftover stuff they don't use anymore) and someone is lending me their veil as my 'something borrowed' since they can run for a few hundred dollars here, and we're going to the local florists to get flowers wholesale. I just want something white and will smell nice. I don't have a particular flower that I want for the centerpieces (bouquets a little different!).

I have the same cost cutting ideas theres nothing wrong with any of them. my bridesmaids did pay for there own dresses i don't know anybodys who didn't i thought it was the norm i was in a couple weddings and i always had to pay for my own dress . I think your wedding will be lovely I wouldn't worry too much about it.
We are having a buffet that me and my family are making on our own ( I have 6brothers and sisters ) we're also having a fairly small wedding only like 90 to 100 so i hope that help good luck planning and have fun !

I think that it is great! I am doing the same thing! Except I found a caterer who will feed 220 people dinner for $870. (Fettuccine or pizza, ceasar salad and garlic bread) It is a simple dinner, but it's our favorite anyway! :D  We have lots of fam and friends who want help out. Fabulous. To the best and most wonderful weddings!

Good Ideas... I am ALL for not having a sit down bar... at ALL of the weddings I have been to I have not liked the sit down dinner AT ALL (I hope none of them are reading this) they were at nice places too!!

I say go for it all!! I am not too fond of not having an open bar though, maybe you could do just beer and wine (its a lot cheaper)

All your ideas sound great and very reasonable. As I live in London, I know how bloody hard it is to plan a wedding on 3 grand. I don't know how many people you're planning on inviting but if it's a small do you could maybe have it in one of your friends' or family's garden?
I am doing our wedding on a £6000-£7000 budget but we decided to get married in Hungary as everything costs a third of stuff in the UK.
Try and source as much as possible from Ebay. I bought 80% of our things (incl my dress!!) on Ebay and I couldn't be happier. I must have saved at least £500 on my dress alone.
Good luck and enjoy your planning!

Definitely doable.  The budget that I have set for myself is $5000.  The good news is that I'm on schedule to come in under budget (YAY).  Check out www.budgetbrides.com for inexpensive floral arrangments.  Use www.ebay.com and www.craigslist.com.  You can definitely do it, and have a wonderful party to boot.
