Beer Bottle Centerpieces?

okay, i realize this might sound a bit redneck(ish), and a bit tacky, but it's just an idea and I wanted to run it past you lot.

Originally I'd considered using mason jars for decoration- either sticking a candle in them, or putting flowers in them or whatever. Basically, I'm trying to be as cost effective as possible, and well, mason jars can be reused, for pretty much anything you can think of. However, while running into Harris Teeter tonight I noticed that Budweiser is making 20oz. "king pin" style bottles. The boy and I do love our beer. Anyway, looking at them a bit longer, an idea popped into my head- perhaps I could soak the labels off the bottles, paint them pretty colors & stick some flowers in them as decoration/centerpieces. Getting as many as we'd need wouldn't be an issue- I'd just buy a bunch and invite our friends over! I'm sure they wouldn't mind! And after the wedding, i wouldn't really care much about trashing them- afterall, they're just bottles.

So, what do you reckon? Totally trashy or an ingenious way to recycle?
Don't worry, I won't be offended- it's only an idea.

If you paint them than it might be a cute idea. My only concern is that if those are the bottles, the top looks small - will you be able to fit your flowers in?

I am with the rest on wondering about the top being small...

I think you should paint one and see. if you like it and it fits just enough flowers for you then go for it.

My fiance thinks this is an awesome idea, but my concern would be that you won't be able to fit very many blooms in there at all.  Mason jars would be cute, my cousin did that and painted little sunflowers on the jar, it was totally adorable.  Other options are to hit the dollar store or IKEA.  (IKEA has an awesome selection of super affordable vases, bowls and alternatives for arrangements!)

You def. have to read your blog lol... When I first seen the picture and the word centerpiece I was thinking yeah thats a redneck lol...But once I read on I think its a cute idea... lol  Depending on what flowers you are using. I'm pretty sure you can get away with one or 2 flowers... I've seen some vases with a large mouth that only had a couple of flowers... The shape of the vase is different ... Best way to see is trying it out... Good luck... Post some pics for us to see.. =)

I agree with the other girls the top might be too small to fit a lot of flowers. Also painting glass is tricky.

I think it's a cool idea, I'm really over the OTT weddings that have no personality.
We're having a beach wedding so for place markers I'm thinking maybe mini bourbon bottles (like mini-bar hotel ones) with the labels washed off, filled with sand and the person's name hung around the neck.
I love your unique ideas!
