Grooms Cakes

Perhaps I'm under some misconception, but I've always known grooms cakes to be picked either by the groom himself or by the grooms family because the bride gets so much say in the rest of the wedding (including the wedding cake). The grooms cake is also traditionally paid for by the groom's family- either parents or grandparents.

I mean, I understand that some brides get them as a surprise for their grooms and that's fair enough. But if you both know that you're getting one, then why does she have any say in it? for example- I picked our wedding cake. I ran it past Chris to make sure it was something he could agree to as well, but ultimately, the decision was mine. I don't have a single say in his grooms cake. He's decided he wants his to be 2 or 3 tier with a mossy oak pattern across it with bull riding, hunting, monster/lifted trucks and some fire dept stuff on his. It sounds tacky, but I'm sure it'll be brilliant because its something he wants, that reflects him.

So, why am I seeing so many brides saying "I've picked this for the grooms cake." when that kind of defeats the traditional purpose of a grooms cake?

Are you picking your grooms cake for your boy, or is he?

I picked it because I KNEW he'd like it (but thats if we're even having one). It's completely him. If we do have a grooms cake, the only reason would be because of the design (xbox).

According to superstition, any single woman at a wedding should go home with a slice of groom's cake and sleep with it under her pillow.
That night, according to legend, she'll dream of her future husband. Whether or not the folklore holds true, it seems that the old Southern tradition of the groom's cake is making a comeback — not only in the South but in metropolitan areas all over the nation, where designers are whipping up elaborate confections that reflect the groom's interests in a dramatic and memorable way

I should also add that I showed it to him to see what he thought and he really like it. If its for him I wanted him to be apart of choosing the design.

I'd like to surprise him. So, I'm picking. But I'll run it past his other close friends/family.

And if your man likes hunting..you should check out the ebay seller I bought my pretty blue garters from. She also sells camoflauge hunting garters! Wouldn't your man get a kick out of that?!

Check out my blog for her info.
