bringing a traditional wedding cake from england?

Would it be really crazy to have my mother bring an extra large (66 portion- 25.5 cm X 5.5cm) or two/three bar cutting(1.36kg) fruit cake(s) with her from England? Personally, I hate sponge cakes unless they're red velvet and there's no way in hell that FH is allowing that. He hates it. I also hate American fruitcakes- they're too dry, nor do they have royal icing and marzipan on them, so that's out of the question. I want just one layer of Marks & Spencers traditional wedding cake. Also, I know my guests from England would appreciate it because then I'm keeping to our traditions to an extent.

I know my mom wouldn't mind bringing it with her (yes, it might be a bit of a hassle, but if it's what I want she'd do it after a lecture from my grandmother lol.) and really it's not *that* big. I'd really like to have some fruitcake there just because its my preference and its tradition (and it keeps better than sponge!) and while I could make my own with a M&S recipe, I really don't feel like it!



so, am I being totally off the wall here?

well i have no idea what you are talking about when saw fruit cake i thought...ewwww... i see that it is different over there though, i think if you looked around you might find a baker over here that can do it for you :) goodluck, i hope you get your fruit cake ;)

i have no idea what u are talking bout either and i hate fruit cake and regular cake thats why i am having apple pie. but like other girls have told me when i was asking about the apple pie...it's ur day do things ur way!

I agree with Mrs Klein about the finding a baker over here. I would look into that before trying to bring a cake overseas. But good luck with it

I get what you are saying completely. I know about the tradition of the fruit cakes. I have a friend who's wife is Australian and they have the same tradition over there, had a fruit cake at their wedding, and brought the top tier back here to save for the first anniversary.  My suggestion to you as most North Americans do not enjoy a fruit cake, perhaps only at Christmas..that maybe you get your mom to bring you one tier, and incorporate in with the regular cake, your baker can do this no problem.....
