Ask a Question
Inviting coworkers??
I work in a call center for the railroad and have a ton of coworkers. While there are a lot of us on three different shifts, we all know each other for the most part and I generally get along with everyone. On top of knowing everyone and most of us being friends (at least at work), my dad has worked there for 20+ years so everyone knew of me before I started working there. I also have about seven supervisors and managers who I report to depending on what shift I work.
Everyone was very excited for me when I got engaged and people constantly ask about how my planning is going. I don't mind talking to them about it because the wedding will be in Ohio and I know they won't be coming, but here's the dilemma...... Who should I send invitations to??? There is a female who was in my hiring class that is about my age who I am very close with and a male who I am very close with. I plan on inviting them no matter what and there is a high chance that these two individuals (and possible guests) will come to Ohio for the wedding. I have one manager who I have a close working relationship with in comparison to the others. I don't know if I should send him an invitation. And what about my other acquaintances and oldhead (railroad term for being old...a.k.a close to retirement like my dad) friends of my dad?? We're considering having a get together at our house sometime shortly after the wedding (when our house is done being renovated). Should I just and invite them to that?? Thanks for the help!! |

Wedding Dress
Casablanca 1959...ordered!!
So I made the big decision and ordered my dress a couple weeks ago!! I had known for awhile that this was the dress and had stopped looking around, but was waiting on my MOH (cousin) to come and visit during her spring break so she could see the dress and help with the final decision. I tried on a few dresses while we were there so she could enjoy some of the experience with me and then put on "the one" and she knew...we pretty much all knew! It was pretty exciting and it made it all very real!
I ended up paying a little extra to have the designer build the dress with a corset back instead of a zip up. Hopefully it turns out alright since I haven't seen it that way. I ordered the dress in stark white so it hopefully matches the "Red Wings" theme better than the diamond white. Now the search is on for red flats and jewelry and a hairstyle! Does anyone happen to have this dress with a corset back???? |

Ask a Question
Garters???
So I really want this Red Wings garter set for my wedding! FH likes the Wings, but mainly because I do and he is more into football (Buffalo Bills). So if I'm considering a sports theme garter does it have to represent my team or his?? The wedding is red, white and black because the Red Wings are pretty much my life (after my family and friends...sometimes after...haha) and a blue Buffalo Bills garter or something different would really throw things off...
Comments, suggestions! Thanks! |

Wedding Flowers
Bouquet Charm
Last December I had to put my dog Molly to sleep. I'm an only child so Molly was basically my sister from when we "stole" her from our neighbors when I was in sixth grade. She was about 15 years old so or course she was slowing down but she was still generally her energetic self. One weekend she was with my parents camping and she wouldn't eat. My dad took her to the vet when they got back in town and she had to have emergency surgery to have her spleen and a giant tumor removed. Long story short she only made it about three months after the surgery. It was extremely difficult to let her go and I still think about her every day.
So the other day looking around on Etsy I ran across bouquet charms and I eventually found a dog memorial charm! This is my first purchase for the wedding other than supplies for the centerpieces so I'm pretty excited about it. It came in less than a week in a nice little package from Aristo Crafty. I'm very happy that my Molly will be with me on my wedding day... |

DIY Reception Centerpieces
So I'm not really big on flowers so I decided I would attempt to make my own centerpieces. I got the idea from the blog below and my mom and bridesmaids all liked the idea so I decided I would use my wedding colors and put my own twist on the pomanders!
http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/ribbon-pomander-centerpieces I figured I'll need somewhere between 20-25 depending on the exact amount of people we end up inviting and how many tables will be needed. I've made two and a half so far and I seem to be getting the hang of it to make them faster each time. Unfortunately I tend to be slightly OCD when it comes to projects that need to have a uniform design so I don't think I'll be passing off any of the work on these, but I figured I have plenty of time until 2012 rolls around. My mom and I decided to put red craft sand in the vase my dad figured that a dowel rod would secure the styrofoam ball in place. So far so good. Since we (FH and I and my parents) live in Florida, as I make each pomander I plan on placing it that green styrofoam for eventual transport to Ohio where the final product will be assembled. Let me know what you all think! |

Hockey Wedding Ideas
So I'm a diehard Detroit Red Wings hockey fan...I literally have an entire bedroom at our house dedicated to the Wings. Naturally I chose red and white for our colors. I decided to add black to the color scheme as well as some damask pattern so that the Red Wings don't dominate our wedding, however I would like to add some hockey touches to make the day more personal. I've thought about hockey puck or stick favors but aside from that I don't really know what to do without being tacky.
Is there anyone out there with a similar situation? Or any other Red Wings fans?? |

Engagement
Christmas Eve Engagement
So FH unexpectedly proposed on Christmas Eve 2010 and it was a long time coming! He had been talking about buying an old Subaru to refurbish (he is a mechanic) and I was secretly getting upset thinking that he would buy a car before proposing to me! Much to my surprise, after a Christmas Eve lunch at my parents and before I had to take a nap and go to work that evening, he got down on one knee in the living room of our home and asked me to marry him : )
Our profile picture shows us when we were about 7 and 10, but we have known each other before that and our parents were friends before we were born. I was born in a small town outside of Toledo, Ohio. FH and his family happened to be neighbors and friends of my parents. We lived there until I was three when my dad's job moved us to Florida. Since all of our family was in Toledo, we would vacation in Ohio every year and visit the old neighborhood. Over the years our vacations up north continued, but for some reason or another we stopped visiting the old neighborhood. It wasn't until my high school graduation party (which was held in Toledo) that we were reunited. At that point we probably hadn't seen or spoken to each other in about 7 or 8 years and when we saw each other we just sort of picked up where we left off. It was strange and exciting at the same time. Unfortunately I had to go back to Florida where I spend my freshman year of college at the University of Central Florida, before I transferred to the University of Toledo to go to school with my cousin (and to be with FH). Three years later I graduated from college and moved back to Florida for a job. Unfortunately FH and I were separated for about 6 months until he could find a job in Florida. Since being in Florida together, we've bought a house that we're continuously renovating and now we're wedding planning! |

Wedding Dress
I'm pretty sure this is the one!
I've had two dress shopping appointments and probably tried on about 20 dresses. While I'm very indecisive, I know what I DON'T like. No lace, not really into beading, nothing super huge. There were a few that I really thought I liked, but realized I really enjoyed the simplicity of this dress. It's Casablanca 1959 and I plan to add some flair with red jewelry.
Does anyone else plan on wearing this dress?? |
