Wording: No Host Bar On Invites Properly

Unfortunately, how should we word that we are having an No Host Bar- meaning our guests has to pay for their drinks ranging from $3.50 & up. Believe it our not, some of the guests don't have a clue what "No Host Bar" means.

Someone thought that a no host bar meant, no one is hosting behind the bar...so free drinks. LOL They also thought that Open Bar is "Open for business" Lol again!

Ladies...Help with our wording to clarify "No Host Bar and pay for their own alcoholic drinks!

due to venue policy (regulations), each individual will be responsible for the purchase of their own alcoholic beverages.

We are just putting on the invite...

"Bar at reception will be a cash bar"

Hopefully they all get it! :)

I did a quick research on this topic--and apparently a lot of people say its tacky to have a cash bar---that it is better to not have alcohol at all if your guests have to pay.  Technically you shouldn't put it on your invitation--word of mouth is the best way to spread the news.  Perhaps you can have open bar during the cocktail hour (if you are having one).  Or pay for the first X amount of dollars and then make it a cash bar.  You know your guests better than us, so if no one will be offended how about "Please join us for an all-inclusive dinner and cash bar" or We would like to treat our guests to dinner, cash bar available".  Or simply put "Cash bar available" simple and to the point.  I don't always agree with etiquette...so do what you think sounds good.

What FH and I are doing is paying for the first two drinks for each person and the guests are responsible for any other drinks. We have a wedding website where we mentioned that (you could also spread the message by word of mouth). Another possibility is to leave a bottle or two of wine on each table (getting them from the liquor store will be cheaper) and then providing a cash bar for specialty drinks. You'd have to check with your bartender though - mine is required by law to serve every drink so wine bottles on the table is a no-go for us.

I wish we can bring alcohol, champagne or wine. It's a no-no...We are not allowed to bring in any alcohol of a sort. The only bad thing is...we had already bought the champagne and wine. Now it's wasted and we are not putting anymore money into more alcohol. So....buying the first round of drinks sounds good...but not two....???/Hummm, lots to consider here....

What you have now, will make for a good after party.  Or if you're doing a rehersal dinner at yours or someone's house, you can drink it there.  We just bought 17 bottles of sparkling wine aka champagne for $7.50 a bottle.  It's very tasty though.  I know I would be mad if we spent $127 on something that we wouldn't drink in a lifetime.

ok, i misunderstood. for some reason, i thought your venue was not allowing you to  have an open bar. any of the things the other brides have posted are appropriate :).

Hmm...I put "No Host Bar" on my invites...I'm hoping my guests understand what it is. If not, they can google it, lol. I think just "cash bar" would be fine...it's straight to the point.

Yeah. Cash Bar I think is more appropriate to use for No Host Bar.
