The pomander (round flower ball) might be easier for your girls to carry, especially for your 16 month old, but it really depends on how old the other 2 girls are, & really not how "old" they are, but how they respond to direction & routine.   I would only return the baskets if you know for sure that it's just a no go with the girls.  Don't spend time changing things that you already have purchased unless you absolutely have to.  I think it will be fine.  

By the way....I love your wedding date because it falls on my birthday!!!  Whoo hooo!  Good luck with everything.
