Wedding Invitation
Wedding Announcements
I got drawn back into WBC today and realized I have not posted at all and this is the most exiting part of Marriage...being married ! Wooohoo ! Never could've imagined it would be this great...so it's time to catch up but today I thought I would write about Wedding announcements.
Because we eloped and didn't have anyone to send invite's to, we wanted to do something different... Noah's mum actually brought it up a week after we came back from our honey moon, she mentioned that some sort of an announcement might be nice for relatives and friends, just to let everyone know we got married. We decided to make them ourselves(fun fun) with our two favorite wedding photo's and address on back. We mailed out about 40 of them (including our mothers, fathers, brothers and very close friends) for some of them we included handwritten notes and/or photographs and to our surprise we've received a lot of mail back ! ![]() It's been real busy for the mail man and we are enjoying all the wedding cards we've received and some small gifts as well as checks! WOW, well you all know the whole immigration process has been and still is keeping us on a tight leash financially so all the help from our parents and unexpected surprises from family and friends have helped tremendously. Thanks to everyone we managed to have our dream wedding and honey moon on our 1st year anniversary of being (living) together and we'll be able to complete the immigration process shortly. What I enjoy most about being married is that everything feels more wholesome now. We really feel like a family, no longer two separate people. It's funny how the little things that remind me of that put a huge smile on my face...last week we got a Costco membership (because it's a great place to print photo's) and that was my very first ID with my new last name on it, I was ridiculously exited about that (LOL) and in about two weeks we can file for my two year green card, which means my name will be changed officially. Being married to someone whom you can share everything with is such a wonderful feeling. I look forward to the adventures this life will bring us, together, and every moment in between. ![]() |

Vows
4 days 'till wedding ceremony and we still have to write our vows.
Marriage worries? Not at all, but there is a lot to do with only 3 days left... ![]() We found these today while shopping for some of the last items for the ceremony and thought we'd try sleeping with them under our pillows. Wonder if they will make me less exited so I can get more sleep ;-) |

Wedding Ceremony
Location, Sedona
Last night we found our approximate location, we will still have to go there the day before the wedding and find the exact spot, but it feels good to have another piece put in the puzzle. (So happy the judge at the courthouse decided to take a vacation on our date ;-)
We will have the ceremony in the late afternoon, with enough time to fully enjoy the sunset afterward and take pictures. 4 days to wedding...Woooohoooo !!!!!!!!!!! |

Wedding Ceremony
Sigh...deep breath...we have changed plans on this part so many times I lost count. But after A LOT of contemplating we finally decided today.
Ever since we are engaged we have been fighting for our date August 12th (because it's our first year anniversary) the day I met Noah in person for the very first time. It was at the airport in Phoenix and we had been speaking on the phone every day for three months. Only a few days before my flight we decided it was going to be a one way trip. I was in NYC at the time so I packed my two suitcases and dogs and got on the plane. As soon as I saw Noah, I fell into his arms...we held each other tightly for a very long time and all I thought was: YES, this is it. He is the one. ![]() So now you know why the date is very important to us, let's start here... ![]() Mt. Lemmon , Tucson, Arizona ![]() We live very close and you can drive up about 9000 ft and be in a completely different world. Within 45 minutes you will have gone from cactus desert to red rocks to pine trees and in winter there is snow ! We go there once or twice a week for hikes with our dogs and we always thought we would get married there, maybe rent a cabin and have our parents and brothers come say with us. But it was too much to organize on a very tight budget within only three months time. We gave up on that idea and decided to do something with our families in Mexico next year (where my mum and step dad and brother live) my father is in The Netherlands and Noah's parents are currently here in Tucson, though his father may go back to Brasil, so you see, it would have pretty much been impossible to get everyone together right now. My mother came up with the idea to have a ceremony in Mexico in a cenote with a shaman blessing sometime next year. We are considering August 12th 2011 for that but it's still a year away and as you know by now we are terrible at planning ahead... ![]() Oak Creek Canyon , Sedona, Arizona ![]() We thought Sedona would be very romantic, I went there with my parents when I was little and I've always wanted to go back. We decided we should make a road trip from here to Sedona, then Moab and Colorado, maybe back through New Mexico. That way we could get married on our Honey Moon ! We found a couple who officiate weddings and specialize in outdoor weddings, they suggested Oak Creek Canyon but unfortunately we didn't find a hotel that was available for August 11th and 12th, the rest of the trip we'd be camping and we just wanted something very special for our wedding night. Lucky for us we didn't commit to anything so we let them go. ![]() I started looking at marriage laws for the different states and... Cabin, Crested Butte, Colorado Then we found out that in Colorado you can officiate your own marriage, without witnesses. We even called the Gunnison Court to make an appointment to get our marriage license, but after three weeks of searching for a romantic cabin we discovered everything was either booked for our dates, too expensive or not pet friendly and realized it wasn't going to happen there either. I am sure we will keep Crested Butte in mind for a future holiday... ![]() ![]() We were beginning to feel desperate so close to the wedding date with no hotel booked and no idea what else to do when... ![]() Earth Ship, Taos, New Mexico A few days later my mum sent us this link and we fell in love... ![]() ![]() We emailed and they confirmed the next morning that they had the 11th and 12th of August available but when we phoned them back later to finalize the reservation, the receptionist said she had made a mistake, she understood our dates were July 11th and 12th !!! And oh my, we were ready to burst out in tears... ![]() Sedona, Sedona, Sedona Arizona. ![]() At one last attempt to look for something in Colorado, I got back to a website that we had not given much attention when I first starting searching, EL PORTAL in Sedona. ![]() Not quite sure why we passed it up before but they had the room we wanted available for our dates ! We booked right away. ![]() Pfew...one less thing to worry about...you'd think...but no...now things were getting really close we still had to look for an officiant, since the only judge available to perform our ceremony is going to be out of town on August 12th ! Well I guess we never wanted to get married at the court house to begin with. But looking for officiants, nobody seemed right and we even looked into having a Shaman bless our marriage, but it's become a total tourist thing to do and costs thousands of dollars. No no no. ![]() Ahhhhhhhhhhhhrg...if you are still reading, this story does end somewhere...though it may change...but I promise it will stop changing slowly...as things fall into place, like pieces to a puzzle. ![]() We went for a drive to talk things over and Noah said; "Don't worry somewhere, someone is waiting by the phone for our call, they just don't know they are going to marry us yet". We tried to focus on other things and when we came home we turned on the computer once again in an attempt to find our solution. Not willing to give up on our date we gave the search for officiants one last try and through the website of our hotel (yes El Portal) we found back another website I had seen before, of an officiant in Sedona, named Maria and; "Well Maria, you're the one for us..." ![]() We phoned her and immediately took a liking to her personality and voice. The decision is finally made. Maria will marry us in Sedona on Thursday August 12th 2010 at .. : .. PM ![]() Deep Breath...what time do we want the ceremony to be, because we'd love the golden light for our photo's but we already have our restaurant booked for that...ok, let's change the dinner reservation to later in the evening...oh and have I mentioned that we also decided, nine days before the wedding, we will be writing our own vows. Not to forget we haven't decided whether to pay strangers to be our witnesses or bring friends, family...or as my mum suggested, teach the dogs to write their own names??? ![]() We will still have a private ceremony, just Noah and I and the pups, near Crested Butte, while camping alone in the forest, the 14th of August or maybe the 15th or... ![]() ![]() |

Wedding Rings And Jewelry
Our wedding bands are ready !
Noah picked up our wedding bands today and they look great, It took us a little while to get used to looking at two rings on my finger (a lot of bling! ) but now we love them.
And I really didn't want to put it back in the box. In case you're wondering why mine is shaped the way it is... They had to make small creases in it so it would fit snugly with my engagement ring, the shapes are not smooth which made it a difficult one to match. But they slide together perfectly as one and the small creases are only be visible if I wear the band alone. It's also a lot more visible in these photo's (macro lens) than when you look at it in person. I don't know yet if that may be something we want to have adjusted later, they could smooth out the ring more but that would also keep it from fitting against my engagement ring as perfectly as it does. At first I thought it looked strange but I got used to it quickly, it actually gives the ring more character. For now I will be wearing both of them most of the time anyway so it doesn't really matter :-D I love that my wedding band was made out of my parents wedding bands and the diamond came out of my mums ring <3 doesn't get more precious than that ! We are so happy. 12 days to wedding !!! |

Wedding Rings And Jewelry
Heart Shaped Things
Noah inherited his grandfathers wedding band, which already had his grandmother's name in it. We had my name and the year of both his grandparent's wedding and ours engraved in it.
My engagement ring now reads his name and the year of the proposal. One of my best friends gave us the engravings as a gift and it makes me so very happy to have the people closest to our hearts be a part of all this. We are also having my wedding band made. Out of my parents wedding bands and some new gold. My mum gave me their rings after I told her I was getting married and she is also the one who suggested this beautiful idea. Thank you mama... At first I wasn't sure because my parents aren't married anymore and I wanted the band to represent something new, something Noah & I only. But after giving it some thought I fell in love with the idea of having a little piece of my parents and their love melted into this new ring. A precious symbol that we will be carrying with us on this journey, this beginning of a new life. A few days ago Noah brought the rings to the jeweler to have the wedding band made. (I love his surprises !) It should be ready around August 9th and I can't wait to see it ! He is going to add an inscription but isn't telling me...Oh another surprise :-) Our wedding bands will represent something old, a part of the people and love that preceded us. Without them, their love for one another and for us, we wouldn't be here, 27 days to our own marriage. Today. They also represent something new, something just Noah & I. The symbol of a new beginning of a new love(life) together as one. I am grateful to our loving families, without their support we would probably still be apart, struggling for pleasure. While looking for a small heart shaped box to carry the rings in I came across this article, quite interesting...unfortunately though common in the early 1900's they are a rarity today. |

Wedding Cake
We decided we want to order a small wedding cake to celebrate
with after the ceremony, even though it's just going to be us. I found Sedona Cake Couture while looking for bakeries this morning, it's a lot more extravagant than what we have in mind, so I am going to keep browsing. In the mean time... I thought you girls might enjoy some eye food for wedding cake inspiration.. ;-) |

Eloping...
After almost a month of searching for the right place to spend our wedding night, we ended up at the first one we ever looked at!
Yes! They have the suite we wanted available and are welcoming not only to us but also our two pups (we really didn't want to do this trip without them). We will be driving to Sedona on the 11th of August and getting married the next day. Spend both nights at this beautiful hotel and then drive to Moab...we plan to camp in Moab for a day or so before going on to Gunnison County, Colorado...and enjoy as much time as we can in the mountains before we drive back through New Mexico. It will be our first real trip together <3 |

Yes !!!
We have decided: we are going to elope ! We are planning a trip from here to somewhere in Colorado and we'll get married on the way ! We found a very nice couple who are officiants and specialized in wilderness weddings ;-) well sort of, we will pick a location and they will meet us there, marry us however we'd like and leave us on our own... We are looking for a very romantic place to spend the wedding night and then travel to Colorado and camp in various places. So exiting !!!
We are very relieved we finally found a way to get married that makes us happy. In the future we will have another ceremony with our family, it will be in Mexico, which wasn't possible now because I can't leave the country again until after we are married and have all our paperwork done. We really want to get married on August 12th, as it is our first year anniversary. It would've been near impossible to bring our family (from different countries) here together on such short notice. We have and still are spending a fortune on the immigration process, so we can't really afford it either. This way we get OUR dream wedding, twice ! Oh and I had two potential wedding dresses and it turned out it will be the second I had in mind, it fits me as if it was made for me and the colors and details are just perfect. It will also look wonderful next to Noah's linen suit. I will post pictures soon. My mum bought me both dresses and I remember when she bought the second one she said it would make a wonderful wedding dress, turns out she was right, as usual ! When I was trying on the dresses (at home) I couldn't bare to exclude Noah and ask for his opinion so he saw me in both. Which I know is breaking tradition, but it's so much fun to share everything and that means everyone agrees on the dress. Yes. As far as shoes go...we bought the open shoes with the rose but they don't match my wedding dress, I will definitely wear them on other occasions though, they are adorable. I still have the other shoes on reserve as well because they are just too pretty to let go. But for the ceremony I am thinking something more simple, maybe low heel or flat sandals in the same color scheme as our clothes, which could be gold to give it a romantic touch, either way, they need to be comfortable since we will have to hike a little to get to our spot and I don't want to fall on my wedding day ;-) Pictures and more news, SOON come. |

One way ticket for May 17th...
I have an open appointment to go to my interview at the embassy in Ciudad Juarez and we are sooo ready, we decided to wing it. Noah is going to drive down from Tucson and meet me there. We will stay as long as needed and drive home together. I am even bringing our Cat Nomi, sure will be another big adventure but I can hardly wait to see Noah again and my doggies (it's been six months) and though i saw Noah mid March, it was only a week, which now feels as if just a wonderful dream.
Luckily we have Noah's parents to take care of our doggies so they don't have to go with us into the big scary jungle... ![]() |
