Can you say DISRESPECTUL!!

I went over to my fathers house for a dinner..and his sister happened to be there..my Aunt of course..

Well, I havent seen her in a year or so..and she heard that I got engaged...so she looks down at my ring and says....

"IS THIS THE BEST HE COULD DO??!!"

*WTF!!!* How RUDE!

I wanted to be disrespectful and say sumthing back to her..but I had to remember that she is my elder...and my aunt...so I just politely said..."well..i happen to like my ring and he knows what I like." Then she goes on to say..."well he could have at least put the diamonds into one full diamond so it can sit up on your hand. :-\ She must have noticed that i got angry..so she put my hand down and said.."well maybe its just because i dont like white gold".

Who cares what you like?! We have never gotten along..so I guess I should have expected it from her. I think she's bitter because she's almost 60 years old and not married. I wanted to say..well at least am 26 and I have A RING you bitter b****!!!! *sigh*

I love my ring..and it shouldnt matter what size it is!!!! I told my fiance what she said..and he was kinda hurt. And that made me even more upset.

Do you think that was disrespectful of her??

I think that is absolutely disrespectful.  "If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all".  You are a lot nicer than I am because I would have made a rude comment back.  Elder or not you have to give respect to get respect and that was not nice at all.  Even if she didn't like it (which obviously she didn't) she could have simply said oh I'm very happy for you (not saying she liked the ring or anything) and left it at that.  Next time I would say something back if she makes another rude comment, like "well let me see yours, oh wait that's right you don't have one".  Unbelieveable - I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

That is VERY rude and I don't blame you for being upset!!! Everyone has different preferences for rings...some big, some small, and some in between. It has NOTHING to do with how expensive the ring is. I'm really sorry you had to go through that!

Ewwww, where are the punching gloves!  How dare she say that?  People crack me up in their evil ways. I'm sorry you had to hear something bad about your love ring. She ought to be bent over someone knee and she should be paddled!  Sorry I'm getting violent right now. That's horrible and you did the right thing. She probrably can't help it, because no one has ever put her in her right place. But one day...EWWWWW! Keep it up? She's gonna get it!

That was extremely rude of her and you are right so long as you like it ,it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. It's good you held your tongue though i know that must have been hard.  You're right maybe she's just bitter or even lonely. Try to let it go.

If I were you I would have freaked out on her..  I would not have kept my cool! I dont care if anyone else doesnt like my ring.. Its mine, and I picked mine out so if anyone said anything like that to me, they wouldnt know what hit them. I didnt want a big huge gawdy diamond ring ( no offence to anyone.. lol). My ring is small, and simple and I love it.. and you shouldnt care what other people think either!
 I have a Blue diamond ring.. They are rare around here and everyone that sees my ring asks me if its my birth stone.. I dont care if no one thinks or knows its a diamond. and I dont care if they think its fake either! I love it and thats all that matters

wow I smell bitterness!  She definitely was way out of line and I wouldn't have kept my cool.  I would have said something rude back.  All that matter is that you and your FH are happy.. and you love your ring!  I have a very small diamond(1/8 ct)... but I don;t care because it was my FH grandma's.  It means more to me than any huge ass diamond would..lol

The ring is a symbol of your love. Your fiance worked hard to save up for it, shopped around with you in mind and chose it when he saw one that reminded him of you!

Tell your aunt that  a bigger diamond DEFINITELY isn't a sign of a happier marriage--just look at all the celebrities who have 8 or 9 carat rings-- they end up divorcing within 2 years!

She is jealous and bitter-- she is obviously wishing she was the one getting married-- it has to be annoying to her that her brother's child is getting married BEFORE her!

OH WOW I'm mad reading your post! This is so disrespectul and rude. I'm sorry this happened to you. Don't worry about it though because when someone says something like that it's because they're jealous of you. You know...I just got engaged myself. It hasn't been a week yet and people have their 'opinions' about everything. It's amazing the things people say when they are not in their own happy place.

That was very disrespectful to you and your future husband! But I would just ignore it because people are going to be people.

That was TOTALLY disrespectful of her!! Who says something like that?!! My first wedding ring cost £10 because we were BROKE! i dont even know what stone it is! Its probably not even silver let alone Gold! But I love it regardless! And I wear it with pride because I know what it represents!!!!

I should also say that I will be getting a platinum wedding band  for our renewal ceremony! Very excited about that!!!! Well a girl has to have some BLING!!!!

Wow! My bitch radar is certainly beeping after reading what your aunt said to you LOL!!! That is so incredibly rude on so many levels! First of all, she does not know the intricate details of you and your FH as a couple so who the hell is she to pass judgement the ring.............girl, I commend you on keeping your cool and choosing the classy route.  I wouldn't have been rude but she would know to shut her mouth! Hun if she's 60  years old and never been married she's just jealous. It's not about the size of the ring ladies anyways. Of course who doesn't want a nice looking ring. The first ring me and my boyfriend choose was almost 3 ct and chunky, but it looked to big on my finger. Even though we we're buying it I still wanted to look around. This month we went to Jared's and created  our own ring half ct colorless princess  cut modified brilliant center diamond with a 1 ct pave band with a matching 1/4 ct wedding band. Less ct then my original band, but higher quality diamonds and boy do them colorless diamonds sparkle. Needless to say he's paying a couple hundred more, but the quality of my certified diamonds outweigh the 3 cts of less quality diamonds and the setting fits me more b/c it's elegant like me. It's not all about how many cts as long as you love your ring and the love that you to share for each other is real and genuine that's ALL that matters. Your Aunts just jealous no body wanted to marry her!

When I got engaged, everyone said how my low setting, simple, ruby and diamond ring fit me very well. However, I had a coworker, who I thought was a friend, ask me in a very condescending tone, "oh honey, that such a cute promise ring".  All I can say is, she's a mean witch and while the mean things hurt, seek company in the presence of those who actually care about your happiness.
