Wedding Decoration
ETSY SHOPPING SPREE!
Down to the 2 and 1/2 month mark so i decided it was time for some hardcore wedding shopping!
So we are paying a decorator $400 to set up the reception site, do our center pieces, do all the linens, hook up all the lights, set up all the tables, assemble all of my personal decorations that i buy, and dis-assemble every thing once the reception is over. SO i needed to finish buying the decorations i want her to use!! Also, I still needed bouts for all the men, my garter, and a tossing garter as well! so lets run through all my purchases as they appear in the pictures: 1. the bouts for the guys which will have S+J inscribed on them 2. sparrow bunting flag that will have our last name 3. bunting flag for cookie table 4. "thank you" flag/photo prop for the pix on thank you cards 5. bunting flags for the card-bird-cage 6. chalk boards and vintage frames [one will say bar, sign-in, etc.] 7. little bags that go in the bigger welcome bags 8. my garter also i sent out all the music to my music group and made a final decision on flowers! I've been a busy bride since i last posted, but its crunch time! Hope ya'll are having a good time planning too! xo Sam |

Wedding Decoration
getting nervous
Yesterday marked the 3 months!!! We met with the decorator and we scrapped my whole mason jar centerpiece idea. I'm kind of sad but my decorator really talked me out of it. Not in a bully way, just practically speaking. I'm having an indoor reception at a hotel in the evening, that doesnt exactly scream 'country chic'. We are still having some southern rustic charm like the bunting flags from my shower, hydrangea, and burlap table squares... but we decided it would be more fitting to add more vintage elegance instead.
So we will have white table clothes with burlap table squares, tiny glass votives that will hold candles, a tall glass vase with hydrangea and peacock feathers coming out of the top. the table numbers will be little chalkboards hanging around the wine bottles placed near the center of the table. There will be navy napkins tucked into each wine glass and green-fabric-covered jelly jars. So hopefully it will turn out ok. we haven't even began doing our invitations. I just can't believe we are already at 3 months!!! so close, but so far away!! xo Sam |

Wedding Hair Style
and other fashion too
Technical difficulties! I just typed a huge long post and then WBC logged me out just as i was finishing! UHG!
Well, I am still trying to get the good pix from my latest bridal shower but in the mean time i thought i would share my first hair trial, wedding dress fitting and my 'something borrowed' with you. My something borrowed is so so special. My great-grandmother wore these clip on, diamond and pearl earrings at her wedding [ she didnt have her ears pierced] then my mother wore them for her wedding... and now its my turn! What I love most about them is that the little diamond leaf details match the flower/leaf beading work on the bodice of my gown!!! Speaking of gown, i had my 2nd dress fitting and it was TERRIBLE! I've gained 15 lbs since i bought it but the sales woman said it was a corset lace-up dress so I had wiggle room and could either lose or gain weight and still be perfectly fine. Well let me tell you, that was not the case! I was crying, i felt SO uncomfortable! My boobs were practically hanging out and even though the dress laced up i could barely breath and sit! So its back to working out for me. I have 3 months to lose 15 lbs. So 5 lbs. a month isn't too ambitious right? As for my hair trial, it started out good and I liked the end result but here are three reasons why I am NOT choosing this hairstyle. #1 I don't like the way it twisted in the back, pieces kept falling out throughout the day. #2 i have been growing my hair out since the day we got engaged and the hairstyle didnt flaunt my locks like i thought it would, #3 my head was in pain from all the bobby pins after the first hour!! A wedding is 8x longer than that and i do not want to have a sore scalp by the tie I'm walking into my reception. So there you have it ladies, that's what i accomplished this weekend. Happy Planning! xo Sam |

Bridal Shower
With the FMIL's pals
So here in the Ohio valley, the ladies love their bridal showers!
Let me just start off by saying these pictures were all sent to me via friends cell phones and I dont have any of the digital camera pix yet! My bridal shower this past weekend was celebrated with 80 guests!! Most of them were friends of FMIL. She wanted to throw a big shower for me because she wanted me [and her son, of course] to get a bunch of nice things and she only has one child which is my FH so she would never have another chance to throw a bridal shower again. She had our wedding decorator also do the decorations for the shower. The cupcake table was my favorite. On the day of my shower I also did a hair trial. I was really thinking I wanted some form of side pony tail for the wedding so i had the woman do my hair just like an inspiration photo I found. Well, it didnt stay up very long and got frizzy quick. Also, my scalp is VERY sensitive! I dont know why that didnt cross my mind, but after the first hour my scalp was aching. That's just not practical for an 8 hour wedding day. So I might have to just wear it down, or find a style with less bobby pins!!! My mom flew all the way from california ON HER BIRTHDAY to come to my shower! it was so awesome! Her and FMIL got to know each other a little better as well as the rest of FH's family so that was nice and emotional, but overall a good trip :) at the end of my shower FH came in and surprised me with flowers!!! Rainbow roses! He helped me unwrap the rest of my gifts and then he drew names for prizes!! Lastly, for this cookie table I'll be doing at my wedding, I mostly want to have baskets but I thought it would be cute to two platters on either end of the cookie buffet line. One Ohio platter, and one California platter! I didnt order the California one yet [I may have to wait until i get my summer job back lol] but the Ohio one came in the mail!!!! Its sooooo cute and has that wooden rustic feel :) ALso, there is a heart on his hometown :) so perfect! Well, I'll update you ladies when I get more pictures. And if you've been following my honeymoon drama, I haven't gotten a call back from them yet! *sigh* Happy Planning! -Sam |

Honeymoon
trying to prevent HELL
We always hear honeymoon-hell stories from WBC brides once they have returned. Well, I was determined to have a problem free honeymoon experience that i could brag about once I returned! It seems that that won't be the case considering its still 99 days until the wedding and we are already having issues!!!
FIRST... When BeachDestinations.com sent us our travel documents, they forgot to send us our airline tickets! When we called, we were pretty calm because we assumed that they would be apologetic and just send us the tickets. Well We got half of that right. In addition to saying sorry and sending us our tickets they charged us a $20 FEDEX FEE!!!! We called to dispute the charge and they just talked us around in circles until we just got too frustrated and gave up. THEN... last night FH gets a call saying that the flights have been changed. Not a big deal, that usually happens when you book 6 mos in advance. Well, FH asked if we were going to be reissued tickets and BeachD's told us no, that we should take our original tickets to the airport the day of, and that US Airways would reissue the tickets then. Well that sounded fishy to me! So I went with my gut and called US Airways.... BeachD's booked me a bogus flight! We were supposed to have a layover in Charlotte and then board a flight to our final destination in Pittsburgh... THERE WAS NO LAYOVER TIME! The woman at US Airways told me that by the time my Charlotte flight was landing, my Pittsburgh plane would already be taking off! So she was very very nice and re-booked me a decent flight. She also told me Beach Destinations is ABSOLUTELY RESPONSIBLE for reissuing us tickets. She even said "don't let them tell you otherwise. If they say they are not going to reissue you tickets then ask for a supervisor... do whatever you have to do" SO... I called back in full-on bridezilla gear!! the BeachD lady assured me that everything would be taken care of and that they were really sorry I had to go to US Airways and they were just glad we caught the error. They said they would even send us new tickets. WELL..... this morning we get an e-mail saying we are going to be charged a $20 FEDEX fee!!!! HELLLLLLLLLL NAWWWW!!! Oooo, ladies-- i was furious. i just got off the phone with them because their supervisor was conveniently 'in a meeting' but once he gets back, he's not going to know what hit him. I am so mad about this! They are a travel agency!! Its not the customer's job to catch these errors OR to pay for them! I have a wedding to pay for! I dont want to be our $40 because they made a stupid mistake!!! that could go toward like, 4 more cases of Mason jars! idiots.... Well, in lighter news, today we are officially in the double digits!! only 99 more days! And Punta Cana better be freakin' nice as Heaven for the Hell I've been put through to get there! lol. xox Sam |

Second Thoughs
any ladies ever change their minds?!
Not about marriage, haha about decorations! And tuxes for that matter!
I wanted grey tuxes for my groomsmen from the start and the man at men's warehouse talked me out of it because my dress is ivory and he didnt think it would look good. Well to hell with that! I want the soft romantic feel the grey gives off! Plus, my dress isn't a super creamy ivory. You wouldnt even know it was ivory unless you held it up to another gown! So that's change #1 i'd like to make #2 Every one liked my hydrangea+ mason jar idea so much that it has been a staple decoration in every party that relates to our wedding! Its annoying because that was supposed to be unique to our country chic theme :(( So I'm thinking I will still have jars around like at the head table and dessert table [since i already bought 12 quart size] but I think I'm going back to tall center pieces. They will be tall skinny vases with peacock feathers in the middle, hydrangea on top with greenery. I haven't met with my decorator to finalize decorations yet so this shouldnt be a problem. NowI was thinking about sticking rustic wooden table numbers in my original mason jar centerpiece but now that I am going tall I think I am going to put these little chalk board numbers around the wine bottles that will be placed at each table. What do you ladies think? Happy Planning! |

DIY Wedding
Welcome Bags
So we have a lot of out of town guests coming [all my california relitives, new jersey aunts and uncles, and some from NY and KY] to show our appreciation and to make settling in for the weekend a little easier FH and i decided that we would put together welcome bags. These bags will be hung on the door the day every one will arrive and will contain:
- a map of the area -weekend itinerary [who has to be where and when] - some tylenol [morning after lol] -water bottle [with personalized labels] -some tea bags -some type of snack [luna bar? Pop chips?] - and a list of restaurants/grocery/other stores with descriptions of what type of items they carry/food they serve and how close/far they place is from their hotel So I was looking on Etsy to see if some one could make me cute bags in our theme for cheap. I found the perfect bags but the shipping was $20!! I tried to haggle with her since i was ordering less then half of what the listing described [hence, it would be less shipping because of less weight] but she wouldn't budge! Usually i can get the seller to at least lower the shipping cost by $5 but not this gal! SO... i have a little artist in me and thought, why dont i just draw this design myself? The picture with the white background is the one i drew [obviously] and the brown one is the picture from etsy. The etsy seller clearly uses a stamp but i didnt think mine was too sloppy. So i will scan the version I drew and print it on some tea stained paper [or something else with a vintage look] and then glue it to my own paper brown bags that I will find for cheap at some craft store sale. What do you ladies think? Does it look cheap and sloppy, or personal and cute? Happy planning! Blessings, Sam |

Honeymoon
Punta Cana!
So I know I already mentioned that we will be traveling to Punta Cana the morning after our wedding but look what i found!
On tripadvisor.com I was looking at more reviews and activities that our resort offers and I found this picture! They have flamingo's and peacocks on the grounds! haha I think that is a divine sign that i chose the right resort! LOL Also I wanted to post my rehersal dinner outfit that FMIL bought me :) This dress is actually going to be worn multiple times. Next saturday is my Ohio bridal shower [the big one]. I had one in CA with my CA family but now I"m having one with my college friends and FH family. So I will be wearing the white crochetted dress for the shower, the rehersal dinner, and on our honeymoon :) I hope all you ladies are having a good time planning :) xo Sam |

Wedding Dress
fitting #1
So I was a little nervous about this!
I know I have gained around 10 pounds in the past 9 months. Since i dropped out of school for the rest of the year I lost my campus gym membership and my job that involved a lot of physical activity. Well, in roughly 2 weeks i will be getting my job back and I have started going on walks with some of my other BM's but i knew that dress fitting was coming regardless of how much weight I've gained. Well the good news is it still fit me. tightly, but there was still wiggle room! Now, I'd like for it to be comfortable [-10 lbs. comfortable] but that will have to wait. I'm pretty short and my shoes only have a 3 in. heel so i thought i'd need alterations BIG time! But i didnt! I'm going Scarlette O'Hara! I got hoops to put beneath my wedding dress!! this lifted it just up off the ground enough to NOT need alterations! I've never shown you ladies a picture of my dress for fear of my friends and family seeing it but i figured this little back short wouldnt hurt! The hoops definitely added more poof and i was hesitant at first but in the end, i liked the regal feel. now the tulle around my shoulders snaps into the front sides of my dress to give the effect of having sleeves like Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I will keep them on in the church so that my shoulders will be some-what covered, but that lil piece is comin off for the reception! |
